We are looking to direct feed video into an ATEM mini with three cameras (we would have a friend cutting from angle to angle as we record) and very little post editing, recording the single output to an external drive. Our goal is long form conversation, up to three hours, and are on a budget (this is more hobby for us). What would you recommend for a good looking shot, uninterrupted recording (a/c power supply) and direct feeding onto a mixing board rather than an SD card? Thanks! PS we would be recording audio separate with the rode mics and rodecaster pro audio mixer...

Hey this covered all the questions I had when I was searching for some answers! I'm not sure if you also covered this topic, but I was wondering if you could maybe demo your step by step on how you put the videos and audios together. Assuming you have at least 2 cameras and 2 if not more audio tracks to go along with it, what would be your steps to take all that and put it all together. Thank you again!

Why is Rick wearing a coat inside your house? Do you not have a furnace or is fuel quite expensive? I enjoyed this episode. I only discovered your Geeky Nerdy channel lately. I've followed your In The Blues channel for several years now and love it, too! You are a natural teacher Shane, so you have definitely found a good niche for yourself on KZbin and it is a big plus that you can laugh at yourself! So many people are much too puffed up with themselves but you aren't. If they ever kick you out of Oz, come to Canada and we'll find room for you here. You WILL need a furnace in this country, however! 😋🤣

Enjoyed your video. FYI: I am setting up with a Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro plus Rode mics feeding into a Sound Devices MixPre 6ii recorder. Cameras are Fujifilm, X-T3, X-T20 and soon the X-T4. The MixPre has excellent analog limiters, and MixAssist to help with opening the right mic. An alternative to the SD is a Behringer mixer which has both tone controls (to EQ the people/mics) and a variable compressor. The mics that I happen to have are 2x Rode M1S Dynamic mics, a Rode NTG1A and a Rode VideoMic NTG. Realise that they are very different, but that's what I have available so I have to go with that.

I know it’s a fairly old comment, Adobe premiere pro has a sync feature to sync the master audio with all of the video tracks. It also has a multi-cam editor where you basically just click the camera you want to view and it does all the cuts automatically. Very quick.

questions about syncing audio & video. You have 3 cameras, and audio on its own. What is your workflow for sync and editing angles?
@gkanai
@gkanai 4 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Gayosso Some DAWs have audio syncing functionality although you would want to do a clap at the start to have something to sync off of. You also have to make sure that the audio settings are the same 24bit/48hZ is common. If your DAW doesn't have syncing, you can get third party software like PluralEyes from Red Giant. If you are regularly syncing audio and need a hardware solution, then you would go with something like Tentacle Sync.

gkanai thanks for the reply, and the way 3 camera video comes in. Is this usually done in post just cut to different video . Or is this hardware as well that receives all video and you can pick which one is “live video”
@gkanai1400

@@jon3787 I'm a little unclear on your question but if you have multiple cameras and want a hardware solution for streaming (for instance, one camera on the person, one for the game content, one for something else) you'd want something like that new Blackmagic ATEM Mini/Mini Pro which can mix up to 4 HDMI sources for streaming to Twitch or KZbin, etc.. If you are not streaming, then yes you can cut to whichever camera you want in post.

That's where things get complicated: Easiest way is to use USB cameras b/c a streaming software like OBS will detect them automatically and you can arrange them as you wish. If you want to use a DSLR you will need 3rd party software to trick your computer into thinking it's a webcam or use a HDMI capture card. I have an old logitech webcam that is wide enough to capture the room + the webcam built into my MacBook and it works for me.

This may be a dumb question considering I edit film but how important is it to have the same camera for a live multi camera set up? Reason I ask is I’m so used to the idea that the camera doesn’t fully matter as long as you can use it also using post color correction. I currently have a Sony a7ii and a moment lens iPhone camera set up. If I use my a7ii, moment lens set up, and either a canon t3i/t6i would that work and would their be a way to make sure there is a minimal difference in resolution?

I think the Rodecaster Pro is a good unit for what it is. It has some limitations but overall it's the easiest way to get going. That said, to make the most out of even the Procaster while keeping the noisefloor low you might still need to get a cloudlifter even though you don't technically need it. Thanks to the built-in effects on the Rodecaster Pro, you don't technically need a cloudlifter but from what I have heard it helps. It can't really be used well with rack units so look at it like it's own unit and ditch all the rack stuff.

Copy that stream key into OBS and you can start streaming. If you have a DSLR you will need 3rd party software to trick your computer into thinking it's a webcam.
