The ULTIMATE Nerf Rayven CS-18 Mod Tutorial (Voltage, Lock Removal, Rewiring)

I know the circuitry mods can seem a bit tricky but it it completely worth it to turn this blaster into something so effective. After all these mods, the Rayven has excelent ranges with its already great rate of fire.

@severecaseofnerf Im colorblind, not stupid, I've learned which shades are which colors. In a way, Ive taught myself (like all colorblind people do) to interpret and "see" colors, but wires are a pain. This is one of the reasons I like the fanger red so much, it looks just like blood to me.

Honestly, I think the accelerator button under the trigger was a pretty practical idea. As an HvZ'r, I've seen so many people get really pissed because they left their barricades powered up for too long, causing them to eat through batteries. I think I'll mod my Rayven to get rid of the jam door and clip safeties for the flywheel, while keeping the accelerator button safety intact. And the stupid trigger safeties of course.

Guys, "Color blindness or color vision deficiency is the inability or decreased ability to see color, or perceive color differences, under lighting conditions when color vision is not normally impaired." He is not completely blind of all color. How does he know what colors blasters are? People could tell him, maybe he can guess from how he perceives different colors.

As a graphic designer with severe colorblindness, I think I can speak for him when I say that certain hues confuse me, but not all. I can distinguish specific values of greens, reds, purples, oranges, yellows, neutrals (the colors that I have most trouble with. But not all. He's probably using something he he can easily identify as green or is using something he just KNOWS is green even if he can't tell.

Oh, and if you haven't already done so, you should pull out the resistors - those are the yellow guys in between the motors, just solder in new leads in between them.

Color-blindness only works with certain SHADES of colors, for example, he may be unfortunate to be colo-rblind to the common nerf colors, but he's not necessarily color-blind to other colors. And yes its usually on with the colors red and green. I just know this cuz my friend is sometimes colorblind to grass.

drac, I think I know how to reduce barrel drag. What you do is drill holes through the sides of the barrel, making it so that the dart doesn't need to push 4 inches of air through the barrel. Instead the air will go through through the holes. Hope this comment helped.

i took out the trigger lock and magazine lock and it didn't work and my trigger lock i had to put back because the rev trigger didn't come back out so i would suggest filling in where the trigger lock used to be but still the clip lock didn't work i sad

you can put foam around the motors and it will absorb the sound waves making it quieter

I like the noise after the voltage mod is done. I've found with a Power-strike 48 that if the gun is loud enough you don't need to fire, which is good because the PS48 is pretty unreliable if you aren't using the darts it comes boxed with.

The most common type of color deficiency (red-green deuteranomaly) is not actually color "blindness", even though that/s what it's often called. I have it, and I can definitely tell the difference between red and green objects. The main thing is that red and green look about as close as green and yellow to me. And in a vision test with lots of little red and green dots very close together, I have trouble making things out.

I see no reason why a second flywheel assembly on an axis exactly 90 degrees to the first one would cause any problems but it would be a serious pain to rewire the entire four flywheel assembly so that the two sets didn't interfere with eachothers' wiring. Furthermore, the only way this would get a range increase is if the two original assemblies were powered separately. I'm thinking one 9v each since they'd fit the original battery case nicely.

Just a little hint for people when taking apart the Rayven. The screws are tight as hell and have a "well" around them, so you'll need proper screwdrivers with long round shafts (I tried my special change head screw driver kit and found it couldn't reach all the way in some of the "wells"). Screw them back just as tight or there will be spaces in the seams of the body. There maybe resistance from the lower joins, don't force it. I removed the rear lock only, as it interfered with older CS clips.

@TheNerfWarriorX Same, for me its a sidearm to be used when my primary runs out of if zombies are too close for me to waste long hitting rounds. being able to turn it on and off on the fly is important and after the voltage mods it will rev up in less than a second so its a non-issue for me.

you could also use those push buttons for trigger activated laser sights :D, so you could have used the rev switch to activate a laser sight

Hey, Drac, I emoved the mechanical locks like you did. However, because of my vision, I didn't do any wiring or cut out the electronic locks, so I wasn't able to do a "kill switch" per say, but with the trigger lock removed, I just push in the button that would rev up the fly wheels. The button stays in, until I press down on the button, and sliding my finger off it, which pops the button back out. Even shaking the blaster doesn't disengage the button.

just pull as hard as you can , to open a big enough gap to slide in a screw driver , and just "crowbar" it until it opens . but beware , parts may fly out.

I would of left the lock in that controlled the motors, that way during a war I do not haft to mess around with a switch. this vid is helpful though, I haven't modded my raven yet, so I am defiantly happy all the insides are so simple (haven't even opened it yet.... working on one of my Vulcans)

Color blindness doesn't always mean black and white. A friend of mine is colorblind but he gets yellow and green switched as well as a few other colors.

Well, in case if he is still considering it, I doubt it would work. I think that the second set would actually slow the dart down rather than actually help it. Someone did try it, but they never really gave results, so it could have failed.

Colour Blind doesn't mean he only sees Black, Grey, and White... It just means whereas we can see different kinds of colours like Orange Red, Yellowish Red, Pinkish Red, and Purpleish Red, He may only be able to see the basic colour Red. I have a colour blind friend and he seas colour just fine, just certain colours look the same to him when they look vividly different to me.

Color blind means two different shades of the same color look alike for instance if there is green and a light green they will look the same if your color blind

You just can't tell two similar colors apart from each other. That's most cases anyway. Like, most colourblind people wouldn't tell a teal shade from a blue or green shade, or you have cases similar to those of canines, who can only perceive two visible light rays, those being blue and yellow, red and green, etc.

At current, my plan is to just wire in a 4 AA pack to the standard 4 AA pack. that should give me a nice 12V's of power and it will last a lot longer than my stampede would (since It requires a lot of power to move back the springs) I'm going to have some seriousness fun using this ^^ I'm also probably going to remove all the locks but I'm keeping the button switch.....I like being able to keep my blaster turned off to conserve battery power ^^

That would be Ok Just Increase Battery Capacity For more Stored Voltage So it doesnt run out of battery to fast. and you could make the rev button power the 2nd fly wheel. if you want more power in the shot

@scooterjr88 pretty much yes....though it realyl depends. if you keep the voltage at a relatively safe level, like between 9-12V, it will last a lot longer than youl be nerfing. once their you have gray areas of 12-15 where it will die a lot sooner and than anything from 15-22V is pushing it. anything beyond that is seriously pushing for a fried engine,

It's an interesting mod, but I would've just removed the two electric locks (the one by the Rev switch and the one by the clip.) and setup the rev button like a flash light where you push it once to turn it on, once to turn it off.

@buttmonkey227 The batteries in the clip power the LED lights that charge the darts inside the clip. Even without the performance of charging the glow darts, the lights just look kick ass. I just got mine today, and I'm addicted to the firefly clip. Hope this helps, friend.

Drac, I dont think that you should have done the entire on/off killswitch. you should have done the killswitch just for the jamdoor and clip and still left the rev button functional. to me it would have been more comfortable but i dont know about you. just a suggestion if you have any commisions on this blaster. nice mods though.

You should make the Rayven stefan compatible like SG nerf did and then make one of his brass guide rail 18 dart clips. The Rayven would then be great for NIC.
