Manny. Love your vids, man. I need help, tho. I was shooting my wife with a strobe, shoot thru umbrella and an a7III. When I start focusing, she’s bright but them once it locks focus, the screen goes really dark. I’m not doing one thing but I don’t know what the heck it is. I feel like it’s something in my settings.

I remember the first time I shot with flash, it was like the planets aligned. I had no idea what I was doing but I was like, "woah, this is a game changer". It seriously doesn't need to be some $1,000 studio strobe to get pro results.

great tips, thanks for sharing 👍 keep things simple as long as you can, that`s what I like most - a speedlite, a translucent umbrella, if possible set the light angle of the speedlite to wide angle to avoid a hotspot in the middle and cover the back of this set-up with a light-proof black cloth to simulate a softbox and to suppress light scattering as good as possible, this might help sometimes to be more effective even when using a cheap umbrella - be creative so use different flash and model positions and distances from the background, change the background color, so use a light grey background and a hidden second speedlite with different color gels only for the background, so you can get any color you like, otherwise it will be boring in the long run - there`s basically no right or wrong, there`s only the photographer's own preferences - the equipment doesn`t always have to be new, that saves money not only if you`re on a budget and you can't see it in the photos 😉

You can get some awesome results with really cheap cameras! And i mean REALLY cheap. Like $50 cheap. Check used Olympus E-PL1(around $50) and Yi 42.5mm lens for it, you can get it from aliexpress for around $50 too! It will give you some really awesome results! You will have a lot of fun with it! Also if you'll want to get rid of it you won't lose any money since it will not get any cheaper anymore ;)
