Appreciate everything Matt does and am inspired by his attention to detail and obsessiveness. That said, and I’m borrowing one of Matt’s words, I think the Tool Grid system looks janky. I get that foam isn’t necessarily the answer either from an efficiency standpoint. But this ain’t it. For sockets, i dig the magnetic ones that have the socket size so that you can see it from the top quickly.

Sockets left to right. Metric on the left and standard on the right. 1/4 in the front then 3/8s, 1/2 in the back. Ratchets and extensions in front of the sockets.

I use my tools everyday and have been organizing them for 37 years. I’ve found that every system has its pros and cons. I use a variety of different products, it’s not going to pass an OG inspection but it works. Thin yoga mats for drawer liners, you’ll never go back.

Check out some toolbox tours of career mechanics. Modularity is important.... sometimes you want to grab the whole rack of sockets. Also.... alot of guys don't have room for some organizers because they take up too much real estate. I appreciate your commitment to the details....

I appreciate how the grids lock together now, however the new 6x6 boards are way more expensice then before even if the shipping is less. my top drawer took two sheets which costs the same as 1 16pc of the new boards. and it appear you need 3-4 so roughly 3.5 times more.

Definitely should have a full set of 3/8 impact sockets in there. Most used sockets for an automotive tech Second draw should be for wrenches, don’t waste it on screwdrivers 3rd draw for pliers

I keep my box organized to save time, and if that is the goal, you need complete sets of impacts (at least 3/8 and 1/2) with universals. I'm a hobbiest and have an entire drawer of just impacts and that does no includ the battery powered guns.

I have (re) organized my boxes dozens of times. After 45 years of wrenching i have bought and continue to buy tools. It seems that when i get my sockets set up perfectly then i buy another set of a different style. Yes it is a sickness and i admit it, isnt that the first step? Same with wrenches, ratchets, pliers and every other tool known. They keep upgrading and offering different features so ..... 90% is tool truck tools, mostly Snap On but a few Mac and Matco mixed in. I do like this system, definitely worth a look.

I as well can not stand the need to start adding gaps between sockets and tools in a tool grid as they progressively get bigger. Their definity is no perfect product for organization but I personally enjoy the versatility of the Toolbox Widgets. I just like not being constrained by only using locations predetermined by a hole. I think you would really appreciate my boxes organization, we both enjoy the task of finding the best layout possible.
