My wife and I bought a Shark vacuum about 10 years ago. We have two dogs. The Shark has not given us an ounce of trouble and does a fabulous job. With a push of a button, it converts to a handheld vacuum to do the steps, has a nice long cord, no bags, washable filters and it glides over the carpet. I couldn't imagine owning anything else.

I just about fell off my chair laughing when Melissa was telling the story about the vacuum cleaner. My wife and her family are originally from western Pa. I was born and raised in Virginia. We have been married 53 years. The first night she had made us dinner and we were finished she said she had to red up the table. Naturally I had never heard that before. I asked her what that meant and she said to clean up. She still says red up. My wife calls a vacuum a vacuum sweeper, but my mother-in-law called it a sweeper. Funny how different parts of the country have different sayings. Love your channel. God bless your entire family. Say hi to Hunter.

It reminds me of the years I spent splitting wood by hand.. They didn't make those kind of wood splitters back when we lived on the farm. That was why I built a boiler where I could put in logs 8" to 10" logs. We ran our boiler all the time because we used it for hot water. Back then we had an electric bill of Ten to Fifteen dollars a month--that was 1975....

Yet another great video. As for a new sweeper take a look at one of these. Miele Classic C1 Cat & Dog PowerLine - SBBN0. It’s a canister vacuum with a powered brush head. It uses bags instead of the Dyson type units where you see all of your dirt and hair swirling around. I watched a bunch of videos before we replaced our Dyson with the Miele. Dyson vacs are heavy. I suggest that you visit a vacuum store and at least try the Miele before you purchase your new sweeper. Keystone in Butler carries Miele. Also, your old sweeper might just need to be cleaned. If it’s clogged up it will overheat and there may be an automatic shutoff.

Great video. Wonderful to see Ed too. Okay. After military moves and being stationed in many States across the beautiful USoA, I learned how differently we all speak. I’m from a tiny town in Northeast Indiana. We always said “I’m going to sweep the carpet”. There are also other ways we speak, and words we use, that I found were different than others. Just like England. They have pockets of cultures throughout. We, in the US, do too. 2) I have had many sweepers. My favorite is my current. The Shark. From Amazon. 3) When I was little I watched my mom cut strawberries and she would cut the green top off and the bottom tip. I did the same when I got older. She saw me and asked why I cut the bottom tip. She said she only cut the tip off if it was bad or not red. Isn’t it all interesting. Our interpretations, our cultures where we grow up. Back in the ‘80’s & 90’s of military life, I got to experience a vast array of people I thought said things like I did simply because they are American like myself. Fun learning the differences. Now I’m in the South and still learning. I love your personality Melissa. You must be fun to be around. Strong work, Mike. As always. Sorry I wrote a book. The End

You're right about the sweeper, vacuum terminology. Around here if you say sweeper you're talking about using a broom to sweep the floor. If you vacuum you could be using the electric vacuum to clean the carpet or a hardwood/vinyl floor. I seem to remember my relatives in Kentucky talking about using a sweeper (vacuum). Also I think my mom used the sweeper term. Also that frog was a lucky guy!

Growing up we had both a carpet "sweeper" and a vacuum. The carpet sweeper was a small push style beater bar on wheels that when pushed it, the wheels would spin the beater bar a kick the dirt up into a container attached to the back of the beater bar which you could slide off to empty it. these were used when company would show up unannounced and you needed to quickly make it looked like you keep your house clean...lol.

@@VikingShipExplorer I remember those and have recently seen one used at a restaurant. Very small version though.
@brucealvarez92632 ай бұрын
Exactly!!! Probably the precursor to electric vacuum and the name sweeper followed in some areas when the beater bar is now run by a motor rather than needing the wheels on the carpet sweeper moving to turn the beater. In England they call vacuum cleaners "Hoovers", the well known name turned generic, like Kleenex is synonymous with "tissues".
