This video inspired me to start an xj overland build 3 years ago taking it on its mayden voyage today for a 4 day trip to near stone mountain. Had to pay respects to this man and his amazing build once more just to say thanks.

Congratulations. How did the road trip go. I just bought a 1990 xj that I think I’m gonna name Rusty. My plans is to do an overland build and this dude just gave me tons of ideas. I can’t wait to take my maiden voyage with her

Hopefully I get the rest of my parts installed this week and take mine for an alignment. Then it's time to test it out. KZbin cost me a bunch of money so far and I'm just getting started lol

@@matthewpalsgrove2090 year old comment but brother you hit the nail on the head. XJs are just now getting the love they deserve. Full resto-mod 4x4 camping rigs are my jam, not this hacked to hell crap we see people doing all too often.
@carlospalooza6 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen lots of builds on KZbin and in person and I’d say this is one of the more practical and thoughtful builds yet. Just enough and not too much. I love the way you kept the original character of the Jeep virtually intact. Such a classic vehicle who’s style will never fade. Great job.

Very nice build! And the coolest part, 'built, not bought'!
@elij.s.75804 жыл бұрын
I admire the honest simplicity of the build, it's great that instead of decking it out with light bars, grill guards and alloy rims he paid attention to what really mattered. better cooling, gearing, axle lockers and it's also great that it has the manual transmission which is somewhat rare of an XJ. Just the necessities instead of luxuries. I love it.

The best part of this is that the drawer fridge cost more than the original purchase of the Jeep itself! Obviously tons of upgrades that make this an incredible vehicle.

My first car was a 89’ Cherokee limited. Now I have a 2001 Xj 3.5in lifted. Never got stuck, but pulled lots of huge pickups out.. they are just so fun to drive. They’re as skinny on the trail as an ATV, but has 4wd and mine has 18’ clearance. It’s a torque off-road beast!

Smart build nothing not needed and nothing over kill,and anyone could copy this build for less that 10k
@Overland_History6 жыл бұрын
I don't know about less than $10K. I've got a bit more into it than that, at this point!
@rsrc44646 жыл бұрын

Very nice build up ! I have had 5 XJ;s, but went with a ford van for a full time live in, overland, tour the country vehicle, after 1 trip around it will get a 4x4 conversion. It was a hard decision between the Cherokee and the Ford van but I needed more room to live in. You have a very well thought out home build, not just a spend money buying from a catalog build.

Incredible build. Definitely one of the most practical XJ builds I've ever seen and I have a lot of respect for the amount of time it must have taken to do all this plus the ingenuity for all the custom additions like the extra battery, shower, freezer, ect. and it all looks so cleanly done. Truly professional work.

The ideas here are great, as a Jeep owner for the last 23 years, I can appreciate the custom work that can be done to XJ, WK, and ZJ Jeeps which are very cheap to buy in the UK and maintain if you pick the right ones that have not been abused too much. I run a WK 5.7 HEMI on LPG which gives me the same running costs as a small car.

I also got a snorkel as accident insurance. I was wheeling just after I finished rebuilding my stroker out on the coast of NC and found out that the 10ft puddle I went into was actually a small lake. I dropped in up to the top of the hood and sucked in water. Scary stuff. I think the only thing you're missing is a chandelier hanging from the tailgate when it's opened. Awesome build. I am subscribed.

That Cherokee is really very thoughtfully built. It does everything you might need, without looking like a monster truck. Nicely done. Did I notice a stick shift? All the better! I drove a 98 Cherokee, rear-wheel drive, stick- shift for years. 'Wish I still had it now.
