I think it would be cool for us to be able to customize educators to have animals that they carry or hold on their shoulder and stand telling people about that animal. things like porcupines, koalas, certain lizards and snakes, and ofc, certain avians. If they wouldn’t make them full on habitat or exhibit animals, I think this would be a good solution.

TBH my greatest bird wants are as follows: waterfowl, then everything else. It’s weird that the only area in game where I have a decent amount of birds is Oceania. Africa is a close second, but it definitely suffers more from the lack of secretary birds and others.

It feels very deliberate that we haven't had birds in any packs as there's been so many opportunities to put iconic ones in. So my guess is they will somehow put a bird pack together with maybe a different type of exhibit or pieces that are used to make aviaries

My pipe dream is that they’ll do a big bird/aviary expansion at the end of development. That way they won’t be constrained to the 8 animal formula - there are so many birds that are absolute necessities in zoos. Birds of prey, ibises, pelicans, waterfowl, etc. would all be incredible.

When it comes to macaws, I kinda want a large species (like the Scarlet) and a small species (like the Spix), because I can imagine an Extraordinary Exhibits Remaster style mod that would add multiple species as colour variations. I guess if flying birds were to be a habitat animal, at least they could have a walkthrough habitat and a mechanic added that would show whether the habitat is tall enough and secure enough so the birds cannot escape, especially the bigger birds. Honestly though, I'd like waterfowl (ducks and geese) because we only need one duck species & one goose species, for modders to update waterfowl mods with the new rigs, but that could just be me.

Birds like tiny parrots, hummingbirds, and macaws can be exhibit animals, birds like ibises, spoonbills, and waterfowl can be both and birds like birds of prey, pelicans, cranes and bigger birds can be exhibit animals, since if you get in an exhibit with an eagle, you'll probably die. Also when we get an aviary pack, we should get like 60 species because there is just way too many iconic birds they need to add like right now and defy anyone who thinks otherwise

If the pack exclusively showcases exhibit animals, having only 8 species seems significantly limited. It would be more appropriate to include at least 12, especially considering the gameplay revolves around pre-made box habitats and looped animations. Also owls is essential, especially the arctic owl as we have yet to have a cold-based exhibit species.

I totally agree. And some of these would've made a good edition to Planet Zoo. Though I couldn't help but think we could include birds of prey, mostly the eagles and the vultures, as the Vulture population is dropping by poachers and farmers poisoning their carcasses, and the community made vulture restaurants for them to feed the food they were given. So I kept this aviary list as usual, hope if Frontier would take a look at it, and maybe have them habitat animals. I'm sure Planet Zoo will be able to help as well. List of Aviary Birds (all of them need to be Habitat birds) African Gray Parrot African Sacred Ibis Bald Eagle Barred Owl Blue and Gold Macaw Brown Pelican Burrowing Owl Californian Condor Canadian Goose Cattle Egret Swan Goose Common Raven Sulphur Crested Cockatoo European Griffon Vulture Golden Eagle Great Blue Heron Great Hornbill Great Horned Owl Great White Pelican White Stork Southern Ground Hornbill Harpy Eagle Hyacinth Macaw Kori Bustard Laughing Kookaburra Mallard Duck Mandarin Duck Mute Swan Northern Red Billed Hornbill Peregrine Falcon Red-Tailed Hawk Rock Pigeon Andean Condor Rosette Spoonbill Rüppell's Vulture Scarlet Macaw Secretarybird Snow Goose Snowy Owl Toco Toucan Turkey Vulture

Something that could be cool are crows ore some other corvid like a magpie or raven. Because I think what could be cool is an educator inside the walk through exhibit, where the educator presents cool puzzles for the crow in exchange for food and enrichment. It could be a really cool, unique interaction between the animals and guests.

My pick, if I had to choose 5 that you haven't already asked for: - Any of the larger Asian Hornbills. I love hornbills and I think they would be such an iconic bird to have in any zoo, plus they would fit well in a lot of South-east Asian zones since PZ already has quite the roster for SEA (Binturong, Siamang, Clouded Leopard, Malayan Tapir, etc) - Any Whistling Duck. They seem to be a staple in most zoos I've seen, where I'm from we have in our zoos White-headed, Fulvous, Black-bellied, Spotted and Plumed. Then again I will take any "wild duck" species. - Any Bird-of-Paradise. I feel it is a wasted opportunity to not have included any B-o-Ps in the Oceania pack. If we want to stick to realism, Raggiana, Red, King, Twelve-wired and Blue B-o-P, and some Parotias and Astrapias, are kept in free-flight aviaries where they do well with people. I remember being mesmerised sharing the same space with a male Raggiana B-o-P displaying to a female in Jurong Bird Park. - Hamerkop. I saw these in an aviary once and I just love them. It blew my mind when I saw how big their nests were! They also look like mini Shoebills. In Singapore, there's an aviary that has the two species free-flying. - Vultures. I've seen a lot of Western and some East Asian zoos do walk-throughs with vultures in them and I think they'd do very well. I really like the look of the Lammergeier, but I also love all the other vultures. I will definitely agree with you on macaws, turacos and toucans, but I would go beyond just the Rainbow Lorikeet. There are so many beautiful species to choose from, also I think most zoos have the Coconut Lorikeet in place of the Rainbow (may be wrong here, at least most of the ones in Asia seem to house Coconut Lorikeets).

My votes go for the Hyacinth Macaw, the Black-and-White Hawk-Eagle, the Toucan, the Burrowing Owl, the Golden Pheasant. I know the eagle won't work with the walk through exhibit but I think they should do something like the habitat barrier but it auto inserts a roof whenever you have a closed habitat. The walls should have two variants glass/chain and the roof chain/netting. They can even auto insert poles with the roof to make it more realistic.

Perhaps the answer to many of these birds on the list, which are more perching bird species, that are not walkthrough compliant would be a redesign of the exhibit mechanics. Like the new bat and sloth walkthroughs, there could be birds exhibiting different behaviors throughout the aviary and fly within the aviary, but it is viewed like an exhibit, not a walkthrough. You can remove the walls and then create a different shape or 'size' of the enclosure space... like the walkthrough exhibits we currently have, but the public and keeper interaction would be like the exhibits. I am sure I am not the first to think this, but that was my first thought watching this video. That way the birds of prey could be on display. No more than 1 or 2 for eagles, hawks, owls and falcons (they are not social so you don't want a lot) and then the vultures can have more. I know it is not what people 'want' but right now with how Planet Zoo is coded, that might be the best we get. Doing a lot of small animals that fly and then could escape outside into a fully open 3 dimensional space, vs just on land or trapped in the water would be a lot for the game engine to run with and there are already so many issues of the game running smoothly with just all the terrestrial animals in it. Walkthroughs could then be turacos and lorikeets (which I am bias for being at the top of my walkthrough list above budgies, since I work with both) and also with over a dozen distinct species of colorful turacos and 55 species of lorikeets the modding community could create SO many species. Lastly I would love to see birds of prey and larger parrots just for the educators to be able to take out and do talks. It would be fantastic to just have a bunch of these handleable birds, small mammals and reptiles that would be just part of an educator collection. So many animal facilities and zoos have smaller species behind the scenes that are handled and just used for education and that is more realistic than an educator pulling an animal off exhibit to handle (for larger zoos). But as always love your content Leaf, and like you and everyone else, I will anxiously await the next Frontier announcement.

I think what they’ll end up doing is using the walk-through enclosures and exhibits which is what I really really hope isnt the case. The walk-through enclosures are incredibly hard to personalise. Maybe in a way where we can manipulate the size and route the guests take, it would be cool, but Im not sure. I can see how easy it would be to make the exhibits easily changeable for birds; going to put a bird in it and the skin automatically changes to a mesh type wall

If I had to pick 8: toucan, macaw, kookaburra, snowy owl, harpy eagle, hummingbird, mandarin duck, great hornbill. I think that would give a great bunch of base species to mod from, and a good variety for non-mod players. They could always have raptor walkthrough options switched off, but I know plenty of European zoos that have raptor walkthroughs with no issues. They’re not realistically any more dangerous than the domestic sheep or goats that we have in petting zoos all over the place, it’s more an issue that the birds themselves need to be confident with people around. I also really want burrowing owls, crowned pigeons, kagu, and swans/pelicans.

Habitat birds, I'd love to see secretary bird, African grey crowned crane, pelicans, puffins, burrowing owl, mute swans, Canada geese etc. I think, if frontier gave us a non walkthrough, large exhibit box, this could work for birds of prey, (maybe not vultures) but little ones like barn owls, or falcons, or small hawks. I've seen some zoos have a small falconry section attached to them, so it wouldn't be unthinkable to have birds of prey.

As a zoo bird nerd, I wanted to share my two cents on your list: Macaws: YES! Macaws are very charismatic bird family for zoos and also one of the immediate families when people think tropical America and birds. Macaws have been a focus and love of mine since I was 14 and have handled and socialize nearly all the macaw species. I can see blue and golds, green-wings (red and greens), scarlets, and military macaws being utilized. Hyacinths are an iconic species for both conservation and for an accurate Pantanal exhibit. From a conservation standpoint, blue-throats, great greens, Lear's, Spix's, and red-fronts would do. Budgies and rainbow lorikeets are iconic Australian parrot species and a staple for children zoos. I would add cockatiels in that mix to round that out. I would add cockatoos also on the list. You have stunning species like palms, rose-breasts (galahs), and sulphur-crests; for conservation, you can do yellow and citron crests along with Philippine red-vents. The golden-breasted starling is a fantastic choice. However, I'd prefer to see superb starlings. To be nitpicky with the turacos, red-crests are very popular but I can also see great blues, Ross's, violets, or white-cheeks as well. To be pedantic for a moment, you used a picture of a GUIANAN cock-of-the-rock instead of the Andean, but between the two species, I would want the Guianan. Toucans: Another iconic, tropical American species. I can see them going with a toco, keel-billed, red-billed, or even a curl-crested araçari here. Toucans, surprisingly, will kill smaller species, with tocos being quite aggressive. Araçaris and toucanets are better in a mixed-species aviary. While I love Asian fairy-bluebirds, the large Asian hornbills like greats, rhinoceros, and wrinkled are a far more iconic Asian bird family. Scarlet ibises? YES! Roseate spoonbills? HELL YES! You know, the roseate spoonbill is also native to the southeastern United States as well as Central and South America. Some iconic North American species I can see in the game would be northern cardinals, blue jays, Baltimore orioles, California quail, greater roadrunners, and whooping cranes so don't know the United States. Although only two zoos currently hold this stunning species, how cool would it be if they added resplendent quetzals in the game? I'd want them virtually and in my zoo whenever I win the lottery.

They could implement some sort of falconry shows with scripted flying routes for the birds as well like when the educators hold the exhibit animals at animal talks. Raptors and other large carnivorous birds like hornbills are just way too iconic to be left out of a possible bird update. It could also be seen as an opportunity to raise awareness for endangered bird species like the California condor, Philippine eagle, and helmeted hornbill, for example.

Since we aren't getting aquarium animals it stands to reason that PlanetZoo NEEDS to give us birds. But why stop at only walkthrough birds? They gave us netting in the Oceania pack, why not a new modular fence that is netting. Additionally they could do the same thing as the exhibit animals and add one bird for each expansion pack. Owls would be great in the North American or Europe pack. Toucans for the tropical pack. ECT. It'd be an amazing way for PlanetZoo to round out the roster and give extra incentive to have all the packs rather than just one minimal bird pack.

I just hope that if we do get an aviary pack that they go far above the animal minimum for DLC. Feel like if we only got six or eight it just wouldn't feel right..

Let's scream for flying birds to planet zoo! They can put small birds in the small views habitats, like the tarantulas, bigger bird for the walthru, and eagles, howls and billibils for "walking" free in the zoo, with no necessary need being inside an habitat! That will be great! It's a shame the peacoocks can't walk free in the zoos... imagine other gorgeows birds walking and nesting free in the zoo!!!

I want birds and Aquariums for exhibit animals. I find it really odd how they've not included Aquariums as all the Zoo tycoon games had Aquarium based dlcs and stuff and this is supposed to be better than that? Kinda feels like a step back honestly.

I don't think the macaws would make a good walkthrough exhibit. You will seldom find them free flighted in an area where guests can get anywhere near them. They have a biteforce strong enough to break hands, snap off fingers, and sever you. They are temperamental and 99% of people have no clue how to read their body language, let alone respect it. They would have to incorporate a similar, distant viewing aviary for macaws, vultures and eagles.

I am hoping that planet zoo will not put birds in these god forsaken rectangular walkthrough exhibits because I have a theory that they are cooking up something better when is comes to bird exhibits, maybe like the aviaries in Jurassic world evolution 2
