Being one who records whilst they work and edits in the twilight hours. I know the difficulties and how much effort goes into making these videos. Material like this is undervalued. Education has changed so much with KZbin. Society are gaining the equivalent of a KZbin plumbing degree. It's good when it's used for something positive like making individuals better engineers. Onsite experience is vital as well as real qualifications. Yet this media stream and experience passed on is helping nations strive to better engineering standards. It would have been a game changer if I had some of these videos when I initially qualified as a plumber 13 years ago. There was hardly anything like this to watch. It's great that the information is there for those that are thirsty to grow in their knowledge of the trade.

@@Got2Learn I will definitely! I'm in the UK based in London Eng age 46 and theres No youngsters that are following into the trade behind anyone over the age of 35? Is it the same over in the US? Its good in one respect as the money is good, supply and demand, but worrying as I understand the UK is not the only Nation effected by a overall trade skills shortage, I'm trying to encourage any youngsters I meet

I am 74 and learned a lot about plumbing from my grandpa. He was a plumber until he died. I am also a Tool and Die maker and have made just about anything you can think of but I always like to learn new tricks. Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I worked at Arizona State University for 20 years In the Physics and Astronomy Instrument Shop basically a very hi tech shop. I taught some of the younger kids many tricks I learned over the years and am always eager to learn new tricks. That is what makes a good craftsman a good one, you gotta know the tricks of the trade. I always appreciate learning these sorts of things. Most younger kids have never made anything or worked on their own car. Hell I used to pull transmissions out by getting under them on the ground and pulling them out on my chest. Well anyway I always appreciate the neat things that people do to make the job not just easier but doable. Thanks again and keep up the good work. I loved the teflon tape thing and the hole saw trick. Maximus By the way I have personally made parts for three Mars missions and actually have parts setting on Mars that I machined while at ASU and some on the Mars Global Surveyor that is circling the planet Mars. Been around the block a few times. Check out my channel. kzbin.info/door/a2M7xSoC4NkG_dgPQW4N5g

Clever idea using two hole saw blades on one arbor so the smaller one centers the drill for the bigger one! Another good idea to drill a hole in a piece of plywood using the required holesaw, then clamp it over the area where you want to drill the hole to stop the drill moving around. I've used this trick several times. This is really good when you don't want the larger hole exactly centered over the smaller one, or if you want to make an oval hole using the same size holesaw by joining 2 holes together. This also works for diamond tile drills, and in fact I've made up a small plywood template which I keep with my tile drills.

More informative than expected! Concise and to the point. I love how there's no wasted time, fluff, or overly-annoying music. One pet-peeve: "Lever"? -Most who've ever turned a wrench say "Cheater" (On the U.S. West Coast, anyway) -We've all been using pipes over ratchets, breaker bars, and wrenches, for leverage, ever since they were invented.

I got a couple more for you. If you use teflon and pipe dope and the pipe dope gets messy, put the pipe dope on the threads first and the teflon over it, no more mess. If you use a saw to cut your pipe and always have a rough edge and you don't have a chamfer tool handy, take a fitting of the same size and roll the outside edge of the pipe inside the hub of the fitting at a 45°angle to take down the edge and make it smooth before gluing it together. Awesome video by the way

Can you do the blackbelt trick?
@ruelsmith
@ruelsmith 5 жыл бұрын
You should always cut holes one pipe size bigger than the pipe your putting through it in the first place. When cutting out plastic pipe, use a torch to heat up the glue and the pieces will peel off much easier. If you've ever tried it with schedule 80 PVC, you'd have lots of frustration if you dont heat the glue up. Conversely, if you're in a position where you need to save the fitting because it's in a bad place, you can cut the pipe flush, make your cuts in the inside of the pipe still in the fitting, carefully heat up the glue, and with a flathead screwdriver and hammer, peel out the pipe pieces. Or, better yet, get what we call a socket scraper that attaches to a cordless drill and cuts it out for you. This isnt a bad list at all. These are commonly used tricks on the job site.

For the homemade inside cutter you can also use your hole saw bit to cut through a piece of Steel stud and use the plug that you cut out as your piece instead of a washer the problem with that though is that your hole is going to be too small to stick 3/8 Rod through you'll have to make the center hole a little bigger but I am done this trick and it actually Cuts better than my inside cutter because of the larger diameter of wheel

Btw for those going to take your plumber license test... you will need to complete a copper project, use the center to center measuring and multiply by 1.4 trick for your offset. Many people fail the test because they don't know this trick.

@Tractors_and_trees 5 жыл бұрын
1.41 is a standard multiplier for 45 degree offsets. Electricians know this from day one of conduit bending. 2.0 for 30 degrees, 3.86 for 22.5, etc. I guess we are a little smarter - "ain't" that right? Lol...

When I hear "we all ways do it this way" or "nah my boss taught me to do it this way" I feel like strangling that person (male or female. Some people are shown how to,, jump on a good idea and use it or come up with an easier way to do the job. It's fairly easy to work smart. This video shows how to work smart. A good video for all young people entering any trade not just plumbing.

Lots of great tricks here, Thank You. Screwing on two hole saw blades on the same arbor, Awesome. I would like to give you a trick to add to your next video. Use your tape measure to do the math. Say 67 5/8 subtract 16 7/8. Just bend over the end of your tape measure. Place it at the 67 5/8 of your tape measure. Then read your tape measure where 16 7/8" is. Your tape measure will give you the answer. This saves you time from pulling out your calculator or writing on a wall somewhere. Great video, Thank You

Dear Sir Please consider informing your plumbing community and other people that the hot water hose for a standard clothing washer can be used to get around tight spots, only requiring a couple of thread adaptors at each end of the hose. This worked for me in my very old house with its very cramped basement and new hot water tank. You will surely be better at explaining this method than me because I loved your plumbing tricks bible and understood everything you said (clearly). Thank You.

All old school tips and tricks. But, you should've noted that the removal of a kink in PEX is only good for Wirsbo/Uponor brand PEX only. It will not work on Zurn, Vanex or any other brands. Also it's best to use a hair dryer or convected heat as an open flame can burn the PEX.

For any two pipes the center-to-center distance can be found by measuring the outer most distance, the inner most distance, adding them together and dividing by two. No need to approximate and can be used with pipes of different diameter. Let R1 = Radius of Pipe 1, R2 = Radius of Pipe 2, D1 = Inner most distance between Pipe 1 and Pipe 2, D2 = Outer most distance between Pipe 1 and Pipe 2, and Y = center-to-center distance. So D2 = 2R1 + 2R2 + D1 And Y = R1 + R2 + D1 So 2Y - D2 = D1 which yields Y = (D1 + D2)/2

Great tips re Teflon tape. If space is very limited because of nearby pipework I found using a pencil is even handier than a pen because you can just snap the pencil to the optimum size, in fact you can reduce the pencil down to an inch or two in length and its still WAY easier than trying to use both hands.

Yeah, tradesmen love being told how to do their job, and how easy it is, and how long it should take. By a customer who's entire knowledge is based on a 5 minute KZbin video. When it goes wrong are you going to hold the plumber responsible? Or the hack on KZbin? Or will you accept responsibility? If you know it all, do it yourself, I promise you your bill will be higher from a professional if you insist they do it your way. Rather than letting them do their job!

1:10 good job, Im an excavating contractor that gets called on water line breaks. I have used this method to re-connect to a pvc water line...usually partially under a sidewalk. Ive also taken a hack saw blade by itself and and cut the broken piece of pvc from inside a coupling...usually under a side walk to. Again...in emergencies you can re use these pvc glued fitting if you take them off carefully.
