I would recommend getting professional nail clippers like the use at a podiatrist (foot doctor) it’s so much easier to trim bunnies nails with and they don’t crack or make that crunchy noise like the clippers that you buy at Walmart or the ones they use on dogs

A bathtub with the towel in it also helps if you’re worried about the height from the counter. I do that with my buns and it works great!

I recommend filing the nail afterwards! It makes the nails softer so you don’t still get scratched afterwards and also prevents the danger of cutting into the quick + some bunnies tend to like it. Also using a towel or soft thing over the area your grooming them is also helpful as rabbit need traction plus for dark nails u can try using a flashlight.

Just wanting to comment if it helps other people, my bunny hates being picked up (like most bunnies) I found it best to use a stacking cup with some forage in it to brush his neck and then hold it ontop of a box so he can put his front paws on which makes it easier to get his stomach and he normally is fine being brushed on his back but still have the forage to keep him entertained. Hope this helps someone as I know it can be difficult

I use part of a nylon/stocking and slip it over their feet to push that bushy feet fur away so I can snip the nails, like a whirlwind. My boy grunts and growls during nail trimming and my bf has to sit him on his knee, hold him across the chest and even cover his eyes with his free hand, or we CANNOT accomplish the nail trim safely. The nylon helps so much because we're working with such limited time

Hi Cinnabun! This week's video was so informative and helpful! I have a baby bun that's 2 1/2 months old and was wondering how often I should groom him? He still has his baby fur and isn't shedding that much so I'm not sure if he should even be groomed. His nails are also fairly short and his quicks are fairly close to the edge of the nail! Also, any advice on getting him accustomed to being picked up? (He hates it and always runs away from me!) Thanks so much

When I trim my buns nails her veins are literally at the tips of her nails… so I only get them when I see them far from her paws…. And sometimes I even see her nibbling her nails which is my sign to trim them.. I’ve never had a bun where their veins are so close to the tips

It definitely doesn't stay there if they digest fur. You can recognize if hair is becoming an issue when the poop (not cecotropes) becomes stringy or connected by fur. Bunnies do not get hair balls. Also, QuikStop is great to have on hand. The clippers should be held vertically.

In the same situation... i love my Gracie (Netherland Dwarf) she will let me pet her occasionally. I loved the desensitise video which has helped a lot. She is still very skittish and I have to start again almost daily for her to trust me. She's very happy zooming around and binkies and loves her room. But... The best way for me and my bunny Button (Netherland dwarf) is to spend AT LEAST 2-3 hours a day, give them a treat every time you pet them (start petting on their cheek) and always give them enrichment and love!
