A couple weeks ago, I posted a video about how I failed at setting up a Roku surround sound system. Now, after a long troubleshooting session with Roku, I've got it working! So...how does it sound? Is it worth the money to get an amazing, 5.1 surround sound system using Roku's speakers?

I have this exact setup in my living room. Very awesome sound. It originally allowed for 2 speakers and a subwoofer (so basically a 4.1 with the soundbar acting as 2 channels) to be added to the soundbar, and then went to 2 additional speakers with the soundbar acting as the center channel only for a true 5.1. I imagine that the next move will be to allow adding more speakers for 7.1 or possibly Atmos. I love the sound I get from my 5.1. To me, Roku is killing it right now.

Hi guys I have a question, I'm just trying to find the total RMS of the stream bar pro but it seems impossible to find the information. In fact, I want to buy the full set of 4 rear speakers and the subwoofer as well, however, I just want to understand and know more about the real sound of the system "speaker by speaker" to compare with others like Logitech Z906 which cost half of that price. I am thinking about getting the speakers and subwoofer. I have a Streambar Pro and like it - have not had a 5.1 system in over 16 years. I miss it. I like the fact that this is integrated into Roku's user experience (which I think is the best - simple to use for my whole family). My previous days of using an audio system involved multiple remotes, a receiver, and always someone pressing the wrong input and having to get my help to fix the issue. I also like the fact that its wireless. Not having to run cables, cut/patch drywall - I'll call that a win.

I put this system in my den. It's not bad for ~$500 between the Roku Streambar Pro and the accompanying wireless sub. You can expand it to surround with rear speakers. My only complaint is sometimes the wireless speakers have a popping to them and I think it is caused by a weak wireless signal like too much bandwidth trying to be pushed over them. But it's definitely cleaner and easier to deal with than a full blown AVR. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one for my guest room.

Just installed this system. I had some setup issues at first, using an older Panasonic Plasma TV. Tried to connect with my original Roku device. After installing using the Streambar, it worked well. Would like to have control of each speaker for odd seating arrangements.

To set up all the Roku speakers is the easiest thing to do, just hold the home button for 5 seconds and follow the steps on the screen. It might take about 30 minutes including the software update, depending on your internet speed. I have never heard of anyone who has trouble in setting the system up. You are the first.

I have the Roku system set up as 5.0 right now. It sounds amazing. Just need to get the subwoofer to make it 5.1 but even without it whatever bass is there is sufficient.

Great video! When attaching your soundbar to the Roku TV, did you just use the optical at that point since the TV still has the Roku OS running? Or did you bypass the TV OS and run everything from the soundbar's OS? Thanks!

I got my Roku soundbar pro yesterday and hooked it up today. Took about 1/2 hour with downloading of software and apps from my account. Works great. I use a Samsung TV which has very good audio with its built-in speakers. Would you suggest wireless subwoofer or wireless bass pro?

I was given the smart soundbar and 10" wireless sub from a friend and it was instant love lol 😆 😂. I have a Vizio surround 5.1 surround sound in my living room with a 8" or possible 6" wireless sub and it's decent but this roku 10" sub kicks azz... I'm actually looking to buy a set of those roku wireless rear speakers and replace my Vizio system in my living room..

running into the same issue, it says all should work together, you just have to set up the sound bar with the tv and the wireless speakers through the sound bar. and they should all play noise at the same time.

Great review! Not many out yet on the complete 5.1 Roku system. Sounds great for movies and dialogue is significantly boosted! I agree it can get really loud.

Hey Scott, Roku lists all the products individually on their website under Audio, but once you combine one of the sound bars(Streambar or Streambar Pro) with two pairs of wireless speakers and the wireless subwoofer and you have a true 5.1 channel surround system.

I just got the streambar pro and subwoofer and loving it. I just ordered 2 speakers to put behind me. Haven’t decided if I will end up with the full setup yet. My TVs location makes it a little difficult.

Wait, did you say that you were using both the stream bar and the wireless speakers upfront? Wouldn’t this be redundant? Did you meanThat one could use either the Stream bar or the wireless speakers for Front channels?

They updated the system so that you can now have 5.1. The streambar will handle center channel while the two side speakers handle L/R. The 2 in the back handle the rear surround.

I just added the rear speakers so I have the full system now, 4 speakers, sub and stream bar. I had no problem setting it all up, I just started from scratch and it was easy. It sounds fantastic however I miss the Bass Boost setting, looks like they took it away....

If you are going to have the 2 front side speakers should you maybe NOT go with the Roku Streambar Pro? Could that not become an "overbearing center speaker" and less in the center? I am thinking to use the Roku Streambar instead - to achieve better stereo separation, and a more centered, center channel. I would also move the side speakers farther from center.

Interesting video. LOL to that first shot of you on the couchand the two other ones towards the end. I also liked the "flirting with that territory" description for whether you are an audiophile or not, I can relate. I don't have a Roku TV, and my TV was already mounted without much flexibility. Rather than remove the TV from the mount, I installed the Roku Pro soundbar mount very carefully, consulting some videos, but not finding any pertaining to the Roku soundbar. Not fun, it would have been much easier if I had a second person to remove the TV and install it that way. On the other hand, the mount is almost if not perfectly virtual as the mount company advises. Their literature leaves a lot to be desired as well. I listened to just the Streambar for a while and liked and noticed the difference, then installed the two small speakers that I bought, but I did so on the side of my small, rectangular room (I was hesitant to buy 4 because of the room size, 10.75' wide x 17' long) but will consider it if I can get enough volume out of these speakers to say wow). I have two rows of seats, so I put one across from each. After listening to that for a while, not noticing any difference, I plugged in the subwoofer. Still no difference. I think I'm still missing something. This LG TV (funny you should mention that) allows internal speaker, HDMI/ARC, or internal and optical. I chose the middle. It appears that, for regular TV, I only get the soundbar. On streaming, I get something from all of the Roku products, though not very loud. I'd love to see a video as to how to utilize the Roku controls, I had found the ones that you referred to, but still need to check further into what they each do. I'll have to try some other streaming sources to see what options I have for each. Thanks again for your informative video!!!

Question here - I have Roku Streambar (under TV), Roku Wireless Speakers (behind couch), Roku Subwoofer (under TV offset to R). My understanding is that with this "set up" you are getting a 5.1 surround sound system. Now here is the question - If I were to add 2 more of the Roku Wireless Speakers (like in the video) to the system setting them next to the television (R & L) wouldn't this equal a 7.1 surround sound (now 8 channels)? The Streambar has a right channel, left channel, and a center channel driver.

I have a Klipsh 48 with the sub & 2 surround speakers with a TCL/Roku 65" it sounds great, but the problem I'm having is the rear surrounds from time to time will make a popping noise, to the point I'll have unplug them to reset & just the other day I noticed there was no sound coming from them, but they had power. I had to repair them, for some reason, I don't know how but they unpaired themselves.

I set mine up in the following way: - Connect Streambar Pro to HDMI ARC with cable. - Connect subwoofer and wireless speakers using Roku step by step. I don’t really hear too much from the read wireless speakers.

I use the Streambar for my computer using an optical audio cable that is plugged from the Streambar to my computer. Will the wireless speakers still work, like can the audio from my computer output sound to the Streambar PLUS the wireless speakers as well?? Or is this setup only proprietary to the Roku U.I./apps?

The speakers are really good. I got mine when they launched. My concern with building out roku sound is the $660 total cost for a 5:1 system. No ATMOS. Are there plans to upgrade to ATMOS?

No Kidding. My $120 TCL soundbar/wireless sub is sufficiently decent... and my TV is TCL, although it is a little glitchy. I can't imagine the sound is worth 500$ more though!!

I can't get the pro to work with my wireless speakers together for front setup .What did they have you do exactly ? The only way to get surround is to set them as rear speakers then all three will work . If set as front speakers only they work not all three combined ie: center channel , left , right speaker. only left , right and the soundbar pro is a brick except for streaming and well giving sound to the wireless speakers .

I wanna know if it's truly 5.1 or just the center channel, subwoofer, and 2 sets of right and left rather than front right, front left, surround right, surround left. And can it be upgraded to 7.1 or atmos after that. I doubt it's got all that processing built into the subwoofer, though. It had better be an exceptional 5.1 or better, because the whole system is pretty expensive.

No. They make a TCL branded soundbar for like $80 that works with a Roku TV. The difference is this soundbar has a Roku built into it and you don't specifically need a Roku TV for it. The TCL one requires a Roku TV.

I think the difference is the Roku Streambar Pro has a Roku built into it. The TCL one is specifically designed to work with a Roku TV, but does not have a Roku built into it. I'm sure the TCL one isn't bad if you only want to spend $80 and already have a TCL Roku TV. I'm actually considering a TCL TV for my upstairs bedroom as my current 42" Panasonic plasma in there is pretty old.

Yes it will. Basically you'll need to plug the Roku soundbar into the TV's ARC/eARC port, plug the other streaming device (Fire TV) into the other port and the audio is supposed to pass through the TV and into the soundbar.

So I have the speakers and subwoofer and would like the sound bar too, but looking into it looks like it has to be hooked up though HDMI only and then you use the software on the soundbar not the software on the tv. in doing that I lose an HDMI port on my tv correct? Does this pair wirelessly to my existing roku tv or only with hdmi? I can't find a definitive answer on this.

HDMI or optical, but to be honest I think it works best with HDMI. Just use your E-ARC HDMI port to go the soundbar.

No, you don't have to have a Roku tv. So, if you have a normal tv you have to have the soundbar/streambar and add the other speakers onto that.

The ONLY downside to this set up is that the soundbar does not support Hdr10+ or Dolby vision. Otherwise it’s pretty bad ass.

Roku “Customer Service” isn’t super helpful, The Chat was awful. I typed out my issue, laid out VERY clearly all the steps I had taken, and the Representative acted like he hadn’t read a WORD. I’m still dead in the water. A reset didn’t like the very same ARC connection that worked fine the day before. Brand new TV too I finally was given a phone number. Talked with a woman with a VERY thick accent (surprise surprise).. “Unplug from the wall for three hours”. She didn’t seem to be able to pronounce HOURS. VERY frustrating. I’m now thinking I’m just gonna have to box it up and send it back. Unsure I’m willing to unhook things for 3 hours at a time when there’s an issue. The ONLY sound from the wireless speakers is “Already Synced” or something to that effect. VERY disappointed.
