As of 7 April 2024, the Ancient Shield is no longer the "best" Shield for a Mage. The title is now held by the Bonka's Barrier which provides 3 Control and 6 Spellpower. For all current content, HP and DEF is irrelevant for Mages. However Smithing is still important for Mages as Ancient Gauntlets are still the best gloves for Mages (though it is just for HP and DEF).

@@arrayan1208 just put all your woodcutting, mining,... fragments into your chest, only keep orbs in your inventory and you will see metal bars in the furnace
