This is the exact setup I have and it works great, hopefully they will make a f2.8 50mm+ lens to finish the lineup of 10-18 18-50 (if the would make a 20-200 f2.8-4.0 or a 18-300 -3.5-6.3 to compete with tamron in a smaller form factor (like the 18-50 vs 17-70) that would be a big bonus)

I bought the Sigma 18-50 together with my ZV-E10 last year, but although I was impressed by the Sigma's optical quality, I couldn't really enjoy this lens because the complete lack of stabilization was pretty frustrating. I do a lot of lowlight photography as well as handheld filming for street videography (And I absolutely hate gimbals) - both things that don't really work completely unstabilized. But now that I also have an a6700, I absolutely LOVE the Sigma as my everyday multi purpose lens on the a6700 - for my usecase, IBIS really is a game changer and finally allows me to fully unleash the Sigma's potential. For my ZV-E10, though, my main everyday lens now is the Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS for its pretty efficient in lens-stabilization.

When you first hear of the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and the Sony a6700, did your heart rate increase. Mine did. Somehow I knew these two were going to be special, and they are. I took this combo with my wife and grandson to the Cabazon Dinasaur park and got great photos. Having a wide angle to normal zoom was unbeatable. Got fabulous photo that were sharp. Even when grandkid was running towards me, the a6700 maintained perfect focus. You don't need a FF camera to take great travel photos as the a6700 with the Sigma zoom is more than up to the job. I continue to enjoy your reviews and thanks for hitting the street to show how good camera products are. And you need to get out of the studio and get fresh air.

I used this combo on a recent trip and was very impressed with my photos but, most of all, just how fun it was to carry this combo around. I agree with you, Mark, the Sigma 18-50 seems made for the a6700 and it is just so "gosh darn cute" to look at!. I use a Peak Design wrist strap when I am out shooting, just for that added bit of security. You made Toronto look like a city of smokers!

Nice video, gave a very good impression of how you actually do street photography. I own the lens on my 6400. Looks almost small on the 6700 :-). I like aperture priority a lot and combine it with auto-iso-min shutter speed where you can also limit the max shutter speed. I am still learning different focal lengths, so I enjoy primes a bit more. But currently my sigma 18-50 is taped to 27 to check whether the ttartisan 27 could be a nice daily carry lens for me.

And I don't know why the smokers are my favorite, (yes I do, props impart a feeling) but the black and white photo was great. So unhealthy, but makes a great photo!

I’ve got a a7s iii with the sigma 24-70mm 2.8 ART lens. Mainly for filming VFX plates - I love that 8ms readout speed. But 12MP isn’t a ton of resolution for capturing photo textures. It’s great for most applications but I can’t snag large patches like roads or walls to use up close in 3D software.

This was great, Mark! Have you noticed that in low light in aperture priority mode the camera maxes out ISO even when lowering the exposure compensation? My intuition is that it should decrease ISO first, instead of increasing SS for a lower exposure. Do you have any idea why that is?

I have been using this combo and this Sigma has been on my camera by default until Viltrox releases the 27mm F1.2. I find myself putting Viltrox on my camera more and more. The lens is superb. The focal length is flexible enough and image quality is superb and even better than the Sigma (well it's a prime lens with F1.2).

Great video Mark. I have the same setup and do a lot of street work in NYC. Just a question, what do you have your Zebras set to. It seems you had to adjust a lot. I prefer a Custom setting: Lower Limit 108+ or 109+ when I'm shooting RAW. Keep up the great work, More videos like this! I love my Sony Zeiss Sonnar 35mm for street work as well.

Enjoyable POV w/commentary and settings reveal. I have the lens/cam combo as my standard go-to gear for local events - fits my ergonomic preferences also. Do you use back button focus? Interesting color grading - skies from blue to blue-green or grey. How you color grade would make a welcome vid, IMO.

One of my favourite photos I took was a night time shot at Yonge-Dundas square (facing North) with a 12mm on the NEX-6. It allowed me to really capture the whole scene and it's so vibrant at night. Sadly I lost the photo when my laptop failed so I'll have to make it back down to recreate it this summer. Cheers from the capital

Thank you for taking us on your Fotwalk. Since I was the first to buy a ZV-E10 and it doesn't have IBIS, I bought the larger Tamron 17-70 with VC. Buying a Sigma specifically for my a6700 doesn't make much sense. Edit: There's a nice recent comparison of these two lenses on Dustin Abbott's KZbin channel.

Very nice lens apart from size, a bit big for what it delivers. When travelling I take the Sony 18-135, no bigger, lots of reach and it has optical stabilisation.

I wondered this too, especially the pictures that look black and white or sepia ... if he prefers to grade those after the fact or use in camera settings. I imagine the camera walk is faster to grade in post, but dunno. I wonder which looks better too. In camera settings or post processing?

I shoot everything in raw and in colour in the standard profile. I pick which photos I like and then I grade in post each photo individually. I usually just hit auto in Lightroom and then grade myself after or choose one of the Lightroom presets and then tweak that.

Great Video Mark, Thank you for explaining to us what's going on around you. Can you make a video explaining Drive mode (BRKC, BRKS, BRKDRO). I tested BRKC and BRKDRO(high). I liked BRK(DRO) as compared to others after merging the 3 photos of the same instance. Would be better if you could explain what is getting changed in each mode with examples and which mode will be better for which condition.

Yes, you certainly can, but sometimes I use auto ISO with aperture priority - so adjusting exposure comp keeps my workflow consistent.

I would do the 11. The 18-50 is too tight for vlogging and even the 16 will look tight compared to the GoPro, the 11 is the way to go for vlogs and landscapes

those lenses will not be great in lowlight. look for a 2.8 I’m zooms for lowlight and a f1.4 in primes

Hey, Mark, how do you manage to let the iso so low, even though you are in aperture mode? Do you limit the iso auto?, if so, how much...

when you’re out in the daylight, the iso will stay at its base of 100 for most of your shots. it will only start to raise over 100 when in the shade or at a high f number. But I don’t worry even if the iso does increase as kings as it doesn’t go crazy high

I really would like an A6700 but I really need it to be able to handle just sitting around doing 4k video for a long livestream without worrying about overheating. I've seen far too many posts that essentially boil down to YMMV, and its put me off. Just a question or two. Do you find when you ask a person if you can take their photo that they are far more agreeable and not likely to shun you? If you take a photo of someone without asking their permission, do you post it on any social media site? As one who worked on a military newspaper, including photographing people, they knew what it was for. But sometimes people on the outside, in the wild, get irate if you snap a photo of them or something related to them. So I generally ask. They then know you aren't from the CIA, NSA, DOJ, FBI or whatever.

you won’t need to worry about your shutter speed out in the sunshine and for street photos, you generally don’t need an nd filter unless you want a “long exposure”. basically, with the 18-50, if not shooting fast moving subjects, anything over 1/100 should be fine. if you’re looking to free action of someone moving fast, 1/500 or 1/1000 should be ok.

Can anybody give me some advice? I'm on the a6700 and currently only have the kit lens, i shoot in light quite often and although i know this lens would be a big improvement, i'm just not sure if it will be enough or should i just go for the 30mm f1.4 prime
