Great video! I loved what you did with the pit and also the redundant discharge line for the main pump. Mine is a cement pit and debris collects easily every time it rains. Years ago, I encountered an issue with the float-operated sump pump. The float mechanism went bad and it got stuck and the pump kept running and damaged the pump. I did not get to it in time to save anything. On my current pump I went with one without a float switch and I use the Levelguard switch. You connect the Levelguard to the power and connect the sump to the outlet built-into the Levelguard plug. The Levelguard has two markings on it to detect water after which it triggers the pump. You can't have enough redundancies in the sump given how much damage can occur in a short time. Thanks for posting the video.

Dave Joseph yeah the clear cover has definitely been great! I can always View if there's any water in there and if it needs cleaning out. The only thing better would have been if I found some really heavy duty plexiglass that I was able to walk on. but I'm happy with this setup and it's been problem-free for many years now. Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment.

That's impressive, the best one I've seen yet. My state requires a RP/RPZ valve on the water line and I've yet to see anyone put one on and 90% of the videos I see, people discharge the water jet into the existing line which they will figure out why that's a bad idea when it floods and the sewers are full. Impressive work though man.

NoNonsenseKnowHow, Thank You for your video. A truly well thought-out, immaculate system! My personal preferences are these: a) Supply a pump stand. b) Use a non-automatic pump for your main; such as Zoeller's: Mighty Mate, 53 - 0002 N53, ( Zoeller float switches are not known for having long lives ). c) Use a higher quality water level controller such as: The, Ion + Digital level contral, ( 6" ), with High Water alarm. Tim.

yep, your weakest point with these sump pumps is the float switch. The single phase pump has a high in-rush current... I have one for my downstairs bathroom that pumps shower + grey water every single day so I went a little over board with my control design: electronic sensor with a single stainless steel rod level sensor relay output controls the coil of a beefy 25Amp motor rated relay that feeds a SOFT STARTER that ramps up AC current to my single phase pump. What really kills pumps is the drive motor start surge when the shaft does not know to spin nor translate against the pump bearings... the fix is a SOFT STARTER (by German schneider electronics) I even retrofitted a Soft Starter in my cloth washer to stop abusing the "gear box" with high torque surges during start-stop cycles.

Cool setup. Looks like you're ready for the heavy rains. My family is talking about having a house built with a basement, and we have heavy clay soil here where we are at, and when the ground gets saturated, our ground gets very swampy. I've stated my case that if a basement is put here, that it should not be installed without a sump pump system.

Nice setup! What is the hookup on the SumpJet for the municipal? Is that a garden hose connection? I checked my pressure and it's about 80-PSI at my garden hose, so I don't think I need to use the 3/4 line either.

you should have a 3/4 water line to your backup pump and most local codes require a back flow preventor to keep waste water from getting into you fresh water supply for your home. great looking setup though!!!
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 6 жыл бұрын
Yes I read that about the 3/4" line when I installed it, but since I could conveniently tap into the already existing line I figured I would try it, and it flows just fine. Could it flow more were the three quarter? I would assume yes. And I also read that about the backflow preventer, however my sump never fills up that high and it's not like it's connected to the sewage. That combined with the fact that by drinking water is crappy to begin with, I'm not too worried about it. I always get letters in the mail about fecal matter in my water. But good pointing that out.

Put levelguard switches on those pumps (n53 or n57) and you'll have zero issues. My combo n53 and levelguard are 7 years old and my pumps activate over 250,000 times from October to May.

Zoeller pumps are built like tanks. There only weakness is there switch. The switch will only last for around 50,000 activations, that pretty much goes for all sump pumps with built in switches.

I would put the alarm float just a bit above the turn-on level of the primary pump, but still within the sump, below floor level. If the primary pump is working properly, you'll _never_ hear that alarm. If you hear the alarm, or are notified of it remotely, you probably will want to see immediately what's going on and not depend on the backup pump taking over. If the backup rarely runs or never runs, it may not run at all when called upon to do so. Moreover, if the backup pumps are there to take over during a power failure, the alarm system should have an uninterruptible power supply that continues to operate the entire alarm system for a few hours when the power goes out.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with everything you wrote. I actually already ended up adjusting the switch location so that yes it goes off if the main pump fails but before the secondary pump passed you kick in. And it's tied in with my house alarm system so that they will call me in case of a failure. Which that system also as a backup battery

Is the water alarm above or below the level of the backup pump? If it’s above and the primary fails but the secondary works and you don’t get an alarm, how will you know that the primary failed? I’d think you’d want two alarms. One above and one below the level of the secondary. Or just one alarm but below the level of the secondary. Nice cover. I might do the same. Right now mine is open.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 6 жыл бұрын
Neil Brookins the alarm is above the secondary. I added another alarm later that's just hooked up to a little buzzer that goes off if the primary pump fails. However if the secondary pump ever operates I will know about it, because it shoots out on to the driveway and I'll see the water there. So to answer your question, yes it does now have two alarms. But only one is actually hooked to my alarm system in the house to alert me via text message or phone call

Do you have a double check valve installed on the Sj10 valve. If not the water from your sump crock from your Sj10 could back flow into your public water supply possibly allowing contaminated water into the rest your house.

Need some advise on level of water to be maintained in sump pump? is it ok to keep float above the inlet pipe level? My groundwater level is 8 inches below the basement floor but higher than inlet pipes. If i keep the float right below the inlet pipe, the pump keeps kicking in as I have continuous flow of water.

hi you need to cut the bottom of that pit to lower your water table even better because those holes that you drill water will come in to slow in a heavy rain your water table would rise too fast believe it or not so good luck with your new pit

If the water rises that fast it comes in from the perforated 4" french drain tubes. But yes, if i ever do have a problem, ill simply drill some more or larger holes in the basin. Thanks for watching. Chris

I like the idea. I can't do anything about my sump now, because rain has come to where I live in California, but once the rain stops and the water table falls, I'll drill at least one hole in the bottom of my sump liner so it can go bone-dry during the summer months.
