We started Sun Chokes 3 years ago with 10 quarter size tubers. The plants got to 12 foot tall. We harvested 20 Five gallon buckets full of them. We grow them for shade in front of our Duck Run. The chickens and ducks love them. We like them shredded on our garden salads. They will literally just creep out and grow right through the wood in raised beds. They also blow over with lots of wind. We have had to tie them to a fence line. Ours bloom in September to October and then start to die back. The dried stems are great for fire starting.

Oh wow! That’s got me so excited. Now I’m thinking maybe I should plant some tubers in front of our chicken run

Matthew is the best little helper of all time! I love how he copies your speech patterns. We have many wild Sunchokes growing in field edges. Probably because they are not cultivated, their tubers are very tough & fibrous. The bright orange flowers are pretty. I'll be interested in how cultivated Sunchoke tubers do.

He is funny when he does that! Although sometimes I have to re-record myself because he likes to talk over me while he copies me word for word lol

Great video! A while back we had messaged on FB about doing a video collaboration, but now FB won't let me message you. So if you are ever still interested in doing something let me know! 🙂 -Tobin from Grace Roots Homestead
