Yeah, no one does these maps outside of trying to get commendations so chances are no one would have checked the board to see it. Rare really needs to overhaul the burying system to make it worthwhile.

@@Kezsora i would do them more, but most seem to be 'buried' by NPCs (the name on the board is an obviously NPC name). takes away from the experience of digging up random treasure for me. if the buried loot was cross-server, so you were actually burying a player's goodies, i'd do it way more

0:28 My brothers and I literally did this exactly thing revelry with a reaper chest, hiding it on a small island next to reapers hideout and since we had a sloop and there was a reaper flagged Brig that started coming toward us, we buried the reaper chest on the small island and set a TNT barrel behind the leaves of some trees and grass to explode it when they came to dig it up.

That's actually smart. I need to try that one day cause the worst I've done is using the treasure to send a lit Athena keg to the surface to blow up a ship and barrel tuck with some buddies near some buried loot and we had kegs near us so that if someone came to the island to dig the treasure we could just grab the keg and sneak to their ship to sink it

I remember getting a map from the quest board that led me to 20+ chests and multiple ancient fortune trinkets, on a single island! I don't remember the name of the guy that buried them but whoever it was, made my day.

Well just letting you know that I buried a hoard, similar to what you described, with my crew some months ago. We had an idea of forming the One Piece but got completely overwhelmed by other players in the process and just decided to bury everything we had at the time. Could of been me :)

I still remember when the treasure digging first came out and the streamer RobRaven stacked many many MANY forts and skelly ships and anything he can get his hands on and then burried 8+ treasure maps worth of loot on JUST shark bait cove. Sadly hes on a EU server so I had no chance of going out there and getting the map myself, but its great to see another youtuber sharing the love too with how trash the maps seem to be anymore Thank you!

Here's another tip for finding plaer buried treasures, if you walk over the spot where the chest is buried, you will hear a distinct sound of walking over a hollow, wooden space rather than the soft crunching of sand/dirt. Also sometimes the dirt won't look different from the surrounding dirt, but that's where this walking strategy comes in, walking around the area of where a chest may be if you can't find it can certainly give you a hint as to where to dig.

Ever since the buried treasure update came out, I've had grand plans for stacking a whole map full of athenas, or other high-tier loot. The problem is its such a neglected mechanic that doesnt incentivize leaving good loot, that after the first week of it being introduced, no one bothers with the things anymore. People just bury their garbage nowdays for the commendations, and most of the time just dig it right back up afterwards. Why bother spending 12 hours stacking endgame loot for a treasure map if no ones going to ever pick it up anyway.

Plus there's a massive flaw in the system apparently from what I've heard..the maps you put up are only for that one server so once the server goes empty your map and whatever you buried is gone unable to be dug-up again; so if someone doesn't take your map fast it's gone forever! No reason to get good loot to make maps when little grab them meaning it's highly likely your map will disappear with the server once empty as no one wanted it; all that effort for nothing effectively.

@@testerwulf3357 Absolutely, the map should be merged onto a new server if you log off, or if that server goes offline. But even that wont get people to do them more often. What they should do is put in a rating system - bury a good treasure map, and get upvoted. People would have more incentive to bury better loot to raise their rating, and seeing a map posted by a highly rated person would make people more likely to pick it up and trust that its worth their time.

a suggestion for next time maybe: mermaid shrines and treasuries mermaid shrines are actually pretty fun with it being a little puzzle and mermaid treasuries have more fighting involved. just make sure you won't get sinked whilst doing them!

I grab treasure maps off the board that are in the area we are doing other voyages and quests. That way it is just bonus loot, that gets added to what else we take. Even if they aren't super value items, it is just gravy on our main course.

I'm not a pirate legend, but was able to enter the waterfall area before the hideout. We had just gotten level 1 athena by stealing and selling some loot, and were joking about it. "We're gonna become pirate legends and they'll be like 'Hello there, new legen- heyyyy you guys!'" then we glitched into the waterfall area, and were even able to enter and leave. we couldn't go any further, though.

Most of the map (all stashes) you see are made by the server. To know which one are real, look at the names without streamer mode active, and if it sounds "piraty", it's a bot one. Also, only bot ones are auto replaced when taken, and there are constantly 2 for each region. Also, when you post a map, it will disappear when the server closes, giving you a bit (but not as much as if a player completed it) season progression, et reputation. This system could have been a lot better if maps from closed servers were going to another server, to keep the flow of player-made map going, and have a bit more loot than the 1-3 treasures from the bots (which cannot even be athenas).

Just so you know, for the Athena Voyages, you don’t have to deliver the cargo runs. You just need to collect them and you’ve completed that quest. Saves a bunch of time when grinding for the Chest of Legends

I can appreciate that other people use the burying system, but yeah, Rare needs to overhaul the buried treasure system so that the maps are permanent until dug up. Otherwise they're doing what Reapers do, making a player's efforts into wasted time

In case it wasn't clear to some, Cliff uses the feature that randomizes names on players; those randomized names are the same they use for the Auto-generated Quests they put on the board. knowing *that* you can usually use the names to judge if it was really a player made map, and if it might actually be worth anything usually its not but thats just how it be sometimes

It may be weird but I like digging treasure a lot of the time. It is pretty calm and even if I get bad items I still sell them. Plus I love putting together treasure maps for others! (I am not good at reading maps either so it's good practice)

Me and my friends buried some great loot once on the Shores of Gold. 2 ashen athena´s chests and some more good items. We maxed out that map so it was actually worth it. If you use collector´s chests you can bury even more stuff than the map allows. (3 items per chest) Sad thing is there´s a good chance no one does your quest before it disappears from the questboard. So that was the first and last time.

Everyone underestimates the treasure board but firstly, it doesn’t use a quest slot so you can have a Tall Tale (SoG to run away), a long Quest, and a Quest from the board, meaning that you lose nothing. Secondly, you know what has less value than a Copper Trinket ? A Filled storage crate, because you can’t sell it and because you’re gonna leave, these won’t be of any use. So what I usually do is bury the crate and set it on the board, so that the next dude gets himself some good loot to start off with. Take that, Quest Board haters !

The sad thing about this is you aren't the only one who said "I'm going to break the cycle. I'm going to bury good loot." a lot of people said that. myself included. The problem is, maps are only good on that server. which means only other ships on THAT server will see your map. IF they interact with the quest board at all. And then if the server gets merged, your maps will disappear. Which means in most cases, you're basically just throwing the treasure away.

I burried all the treasure I got when doing a tall tale 3 times over. There was some good stuff in there. Chest of Rage, Ashen chest, Ashen key, 10ish kegs surrounding all the tresure, a bunch of mermaid gems. It would've been a decent haul, but I didn't want any unnecessary loot on my boat while grinding tall tales. I put 'em all on the board. No idea if anyone used them or not.

So yk some tall tales have special treasures that can only be obtained while u do them, collect lots of them, complete a fortress and make a special tall tale treasure vault. Then lead a newbie to that vault... This will take so long

I recently completed my Legendary Hunter of the Sea of Thieves Title, the last thing missing was a bunch of treacherous plunder..so naturally I made my way to the shores of gold for a relaxing 8h session of pond fishing. As it usually goes with plunder fishing, I "caught" at least 20 Ashen Keys in the process. Being the lazy pirate that I am I didn't want to carry all of those keys back to my ship, so I decided to find out if you can create treasure maps on the shores of gold...and sure enough you can. I'd like to think that there's a crew out there that found my maps and decided to make it all the way to the shores of gold...just for a shit ton of keys
