cool vid, might have missed it but haven't noticed you mention anything about rates, some console commands to change game rates can make flashes and runboost feel alot better, I'm using an autoexec with all of those commands: cl_interp_ratio 0 cl_updaterate 200 cl_interp 0.005 rate 3000000 cl_cmdrate 101

Okay I gotta clear up some of the misinfo on the Momentum stuff. The reason Momentum is 0 ping is the game is technically singleplayer; there's no dedicated server that you send all your movement to that keeps you in sync with other players. Ping/lag is just a fundamental feature of multiplayer, it's *physically impossible* (since the speed of light is finite) to have 0 ping between people in different places - this is why so much competitive multiplayer is played at LANs. So the idea that we could magically do Trikz in a 0 ping way is just absolutely impossible, like, this should be really obvious with basic physics knowledge. With Momentum we don't have centralized dedicated servers. To do multiplayer we use Steam's lobby system to setup peer-to-peer connections between each client, and client A sees client B's playermodel, rockets etc. when it receives that data but not in real-time. If we did allow explosives and stuff from clients to affect each other, it'd be laggy and inconsistent and introduce a bunch of weird technical issues that we don't have easy solutions for. If it were possible to do Trikz in a consistent way we probably would, likely not before 1.0.0 unless a brand new dev got involved (like we've had with Defrag) since we don't wanna slow down the release of other models. Doing additional models would be a lot of work, sure, but we could do it if the mode made sense for Momentum. It's not like we're just casually not doing the mode for some random spurious reasons, it's something we've thought about a lot and ruled out on technical grounds (well almooost entirely - we discuss potential weird solutions from time to time). So yeah, sorry for the long comment but wanted to clear that up. I've no idea why the animosity to Momentum stuff, but if anyone wants to actually know our reasoning for stuff rather than just random misinformed speculation just hook us up in Discord.

I'm sure this idea has already been mentioned before, but would a server browser/option to host servers be feasible? I assume that would require a ton of extra work though with most of the game being worked on in the team's free time. Thank you for sharing your insight too!
@fingerprince_ Жыл бұрын
@@SowbugMori We're gonna have a system for dedicated *lobbies* in the future but those will just be lobbies that can stay up permanently and give certain users certain permissions. In terms of doing a separate networking model, I can't answer definitively but I doubt it would be something we spent the time on since it'd probably have to be a totally separate client we shipped, and take some very tricky engine refactoring to have like, one build of the game that keeps the shared server and client (i.e. Momentum currently) and another where those are separate. It's a shame we have to be closed-source now, if it were possible for more to contribute that maaaaybe someone would make a fork of Momentum with different networking, but I mean that'd be a huge task for them. Basically our attitude is that for all singleplayer modes, e.g. Surf, Bhop, Rocket Jump, Sticky Jump, Ahop, Conc, Defrag, Tricksurf, Climb and Parkour (*takes deep breath*) the Steam lobby system works *really well*. Spectating has somewhat higher ping as is a bit less consistent, and we might have to do some clever clock synchronization for when we implement races, but the upsides are just so enormous: constant 0 ping, and anyone can make lobbies completely freely. So it's a trade-off, but one that completely favours our model (in our opinion). So yeah I can't definitively say we'd 100% never ever consider a more standard networking model (not my place to anyway, if you ask Goc he might give a flat "no"), but given the huge amount of effort that'd be involved (keep in mind we all have limited time to work on this project, hence why it's taking so long), and that it'd only really benefit 2 or more players modes, which can die out far easier than singleplayer modes, I just can't see it being a thing.

@@Repster Hey Repster would you consider making a video about Wolfie's cheated runs (using a movement recorder on monsterjam and culture and likely other runs as well), and/or just about cheating in general in bhop/surf? The bhop community has had a big problem with cheating for quite a while and it isn't really talked about until someone well known like Wolfie or Newdun gets caught and banned. I think you could make a very interesting and informative video explaining what exactly happened with Wolfie and Newdun (they both cheated the same way and Wolfie was going after Newdun's cheated records and ended up doing the same thing), or a video about how cheating in bhop/surf works in general (strafe optimizers, MMR's, autostrafers, etc. idk much about surf lol) and how widespread it is in the bhop community. I think a lot of people enjoy watching these kind of videos about cheaters in gaming and speedrunning, like Wirtual's video about the Trackmania players caught cheating or Apollo Legend's top 10 speedrunners caught cheating, etc.
