Miscalc the goyf. You have a stacked hand, you can only lose from something unexpected. It uses your mana. You're facing an aggro deck, you only lose to getting out tempoed.
@jrjamessonАй бұрын
I was thinking just leave up the miscalc+swords since goyf was just an 0/1 at the time. I'll never understand tapping out like that just to get a recall when the hand was already stacked
@turbobrewАй бұрын
Not miscalcing the goyf is debatable. Tapping out for spell seeker was clearly a blunder since LSV could have mystical toutered for recall if he wanted while still keeping interaction up. Sometimes I think LSV is a genius like the Laelia play, but realistically be was already winning that game. A lot of high level game play is simply not blundering, and being 300iq is actually less important. I really admire Reid Duke for this fact, I don’t think he is the cleverest player but he may be the most consistent and thoughtful.

@yawgmoth6568Ай бұрын
The real mistake last game was tapping out to cast spellseeker. Yes wheel is not a card you probably expected, but since mystical tutor can get you ancestral as well, it just seemed far better to leave shields up then to put a 1/1 into play. Then you mystical end of turn for recall and main phase it if you needed a land drop. Anyways, I almost always draft U/W/x control in vintage cube so this was nice to see even if it was a little more on the tempo/aggro control spectrum than pure control.
@Blackadder75Ай бұрын
I really am getting decent at drafting control decks in cube, which is funny because I used to be more of a mono red aggro player in constructed. I did the 'pause and guess what LSV will pick game' here and 80-90% I predicted the correct card. I guess I don't know if it was any good, maybe this was a 0-3, because I didn't watch the matches yet. But it feels nice.

What changed in this Cube that makes you like containment so bad? It seems as good as ever and you are just picking up on that.
@zach172Ай бұрын
The addition of Phelia was huge for containment priest tbh. Also parallax wave has gotten really good since the cube is more creature based now and Wave + Priest is busted.
@ZaphodTubeАй бұрын
back in the day we channeled our fatties, now flash is added. Maybe more creatures get cheated into play? Sneak was a deck, but nobody played show and tell, which also gets played today…
@sebrr039Ай бұрын
the meta shifted hugely in favor of flash, if you watch his other videos he's always raving about how strong flash is right now. IIRC he said it's the strongest non-power (+ ring and crypt) card in the cube. If priest completely stops one of the strongest cards, it is one of the strongest cards.

@rossmcbeath4997Ай бұрын
He had a couple chances at Wrath/Damn, but I understood his reasoning picking duals and the like. Still, I see what you are saying! Especially with Mystical Tutor, would have added another angle. Some kind of life gain may also have helped, but not sure what is in the cube in UW that can do it. No Sphinx's Rev or what-have-you.
@modestbukowskiАй бұрын
@@rossmcbeath4997 It's interesting how different people value different things. In general I think LSV overvalue lands and playing more than 2 colors, where a focused 2 color would be stronger and not so mana intensive. He also doesn't focus so much in general on removal. I asked why Bosh N Roll or what his name is didn't value lands higher, and he said he rather focus on 2 colors. It's good to have an understanding of ones own biases.

Mystical tutor for Ancestral is actually kinda terrible when you think about it. You're paying 2 mana to essentially draw 1 card - because if the mystical wasn't in your deck you'd have another potentially useful card in hand instead of it, and you waste a draw step drawing the ancestral. I'm surprised LSV prioritizes this kind of card draw (cantrips etc) so highly. Anyone else agree?
@DieEnteableАй бұрын
2 mana for +1 card (trading your 2 for 3 new cards) is a fine deal if you don't need to do anything else with your mana. That's a 2 mana instant speed divination. Not the strongest play in the world, but not bad either. Especially if you mystical end of opponent's turn when you couldn't do anything else with your mana anyway. Then it's essentially a 1 mana divination.

Luis: Been watching your content a very, very long time. I quit magic at least 5 years ago, and your vintage cube videos are my single remaining connection to the game. So it should be clear that I'm not "out to get you" here. But that last round left a very bad taste in my mouth. Yes, the guy made poor plays. But your reactions were equally poor, to say the least. I know you've been on a tilting run with the Cube Worlds qualifiers. I'm sure that shit sucks, and especially so when you're doing so on camera. I really empathize. But in round 3 here, you yourself made several mistakes. You misunderstood the man-land (which admittedly didn't matter) ... But far more importantly, you played objectively incorrectly during the second turn of game 3. He's an aggro deck, you're a control deck. Tale as old as time. All you need to do is protect your life total and you will win almost by default. That's been the case for 20 years in this game. And especially here given your hand. You simply can't lose if you slow him down. Letting him have two threats and then tapping out for a 1/1 is strictly incorrect in every sense of the word. You couldn't see the wheel coming of course, but you should definitely be aware of getting out-tempo'd as a path to his victory, and refusing to either swords or lapse on turn 2 is just strictly wrong 100% of the time. I don't necessarily expect you to be so humble as to berate yourself on camera for it, but the multiple smarmy comments on opponent's play after having clearly punted yourself was a very poor look. If you've read this Luis, I'm not attacking. I just hope it gave you food for thought. I love your content, but this wasn't it.
