The Ultimate VR ZOMBIE GAME! // Dead Island 2 VR (UEVR)

Dead Island VR is still one of my dream native VR ports, the chunky melee focused combat, gorgeous environments and CRAZY zombie damage (especially in Dead Island 2) would make for one of the best VR games ever! However until someone makes a native VR port / native VR Dead Island game a reality we'll have to make do with the fantastic Unreal Engine VR mod (UEVR) which now works almost perfectly with Dead Island 2! Dead Island 2 VR is a dream come true if you're willing to tinker with the settings to create the smoothest possible experience, in this VR Dead Island 2 video I opted to not attempt any kind of motion controls and instead settled for a touch controller experience with button presses for combat rather than physical actions. For me personally this works amazingly well if you're looking for an immersive relaxed gameplay experience (although I am tempted to keep tinkering to find a full motion controlled solution for Dead Island 2 VR gameplay). Once again UEVR proves that it's one of the best VR mods available in 2024 and something that continues to impress me the more I use it...

UEVR MOD is the BEST thing that happened to us, i've made a video of it using my motion controls in DE2 (not real motion control) and it works really good. I used the same setting steps like f.e. in Trepang 2. But the Grapics in some Areas are a bit glitchy. Any ways it works and thats awesome ;) great Video, keep going"!

Dead Islands faux motion controls of using the sticks to simulate weapon swings was pretty fantastic when you got used to it. Loved exploring that original island, then finding my first katana... I'll probs go back to it at some point, no definitely will, I now have the full edition on PS4 after completing it on 360

I’ve had a quest 2 forever, and have been burnt out on the “experiences” that dominate that ecosystem, so finally got a psvr2 a couple days ago. The difference is night and day. Re village in vr is the scariest game I have ever played in my life, a jump scare in the beginning damn near gave me a heart attack lol

You mentioned the film grain issue. You can get rid of this by turning the Shader Quality down to low in the advanced settings of the game. It doesn't seem to have a negative effect on the graphics and it gets rid of that horrible grain. Its also good to turn down Screen Space Reflections to medium as some of them look awful in VR.

Zombies everywhere in a zombie game, who would have thought it 😆 Agree about the motion controls. Playing a mod you have accept that the simple fact that you can play it is great, prefer motion controls to move etc rather than traditional controller though.

You could move the guns. In terminator resistance I moved the guns further to my right. I'm not sure exactly what I did but I think it had to do with camera settings.its difficult going back to normal vr games. I played starwars fallen order recently to the end. It was mind blowing. I first tried uevr on my 1080 ti. It was good enough to make upgrade my pc to a 4080 super just for that. I never regretted it. I'm going to play Hogwarts legacy in the near.

Just looking at the visuals, and the way your gun was warping as you turned at the end, makes me suspect that this might not play so well on anything less than a 4090. Unless you're prepared to drop the resolution way lower than native on the Quest 3 anyway.

What you see in these VR videos is recorded from a monitor though. We are 100 years away from being anywhere close getting this quality through the lenses. I have a 4090, I9 Vadjo Aero and yet still so far away from this level of quality.

@@RoniBliss 100 years? Doubtful. It also depends on what you mean by "quality". Watching the video on a monitor versus seeing it in VR does obviously make a difference. If you're talking about higher quality on a monitor, then presumably you mean PPD? Though that depends on the headset, the resolution of your monitor and the resolution of the video. The Varjo Aero is 35 PPD, and a 32" 16:9 4K monitor a couple of feet away is about 64 PPD. Even at 1440P it'd be 42 PPD. That said, I'm using a Quest 3 at 25 PPD versus my 32" 4K monitor, and I find the immersion of VR more than compensates for the comparative loss of visual fidelity in terms of how impressive it looks.

@@RoniBliss Also, watching this again, pretty though it is, for me personally the resolution (not sure what it was being rendered at), texture quality, lighting and geometric detail, doesn't overcome the amount of "shimmering" on leaves, blinds, fences etc. I find it drives me nuts. Plenty of native VR titles avoid that (depending on what video card and settings you run of course. I switched back to Nvidia from AMD precisely because I hate that sort of shimmering).

I would have liked to see at least a small demo on how much the environment can be changed/destroyed, are wooden doors invulnerable, are locked areas that only have a wooden or glass partition not breakable, in other words how realistic is the environment as I find that is the worst thing of all PC games, items like a cup that are unbreakable, or even a table or chair, flower pot or any piece of furniture for that matter, I have renovated five Homes, I know how easy it is to break a wall, they started to do this in the original Duke Nukem 3D and as new games came out some gave us a little more environment damage, but for the most part it'[s a little glass here and there and if lucky a wooden box or pallet. The main reason I see this as a problem is because they make most games similar to a platformer, you have to follow the simple single direction of the game and if there are Buildings, roads and barriers to make it try and seem like they aren't forcing you to go in the one direction, they can't allow these partitions or barriers to be breakable or you walk from point A to point x in only three steps and haven't leveled enough to fight the creatures designed for that area. There is no such thing as an open world game, the did it with Asherons call to a large degree, but you would end up in areas with creatures way out of your league and as I did many times, lose a body with a lot of really good gear and no way to recover it, unless you were in a large guild with high level recovery teams willing to waste an hour or more of their time helping you get back items they helped you get in the first place :) I would like for them to make more open and destructive items, allow us to actually burn down a Home or shack, or break the supports and the building come crashing down or falling over, real or close to real physiques and real world results from a Rocket Launcher or Hand grenade and so on. Very few games have allowed damage through walls or open doors, the 90's were the best for them at least trying to make a FPS more realistic. Hopefully one day as I am sure many people would play for hours just demolishing things, let alone the point of the game :) It just ruins the immersion when you shoot a sheet rock wall and it only has a tiny mark for a few seconds and then looks like new, or a fire burns in the room with furniture and the fire goes out and everything still looks the same just with maybe a little blackness to fake a fire end result.

​@@PSVR2.Quest 3 + PC = You get the best of both worlds. You get standalone, wireless VR and you can supercharge the experience with wireless PCVR and UEVR mod. PSVR2 is wired and despite being OLED, the screen quality, mura etc, is worse. Also on its own, it also costs about the same as a Quest 3. Sorry, but it's another failure of a product destined for the PlayStation scrapheap, like the Vita.
