My favorite beans I won't grow any others. I love the red ones so you can see them to harvest, I like that most grow in pairs. I live in the south where they grow fast and long. Nice video thanks.

So informative! I am in Orlando Florida as well! My yard long beans did exactly what you stated in the video. It produced a ton of beans, then stopped and started again, lol. Now I think it’s coming to an end and it’s time for the second round. Thanks so much for this video!

I keep aphids down differently. Once the plants are about 6-12" high, I trim to one stem up to the first trellis rung (6"?). Then I paint it with a slurry of IV Organic or diatomaceous earth or kolin clay. It makes it harder for ants to move their aphids onto the beans. Managing at ground level is the key.

Thanks for that video, I grow yard Long beans, here in Thailand and my red colour beans grow to about 4 feet in lenth, on an A shaped trestles that I build out of bamboo. I attach strong string to the top of the trestle, one per plant, then tie it off at the bottom, leaving a little lenth for the plants to get hold of.
@JerrasGarden11 ай бұрын
Wow 4FT long! I'm actually going to Thailand in a few months. First time going. If you have any farm or gardens I should check out, let me know. I like to visit other gardens while I travel to learn about their gardening practices.

@JerrasGarden I am an English expat who lives in Thailand. If you are going to Pattaya or somewhere near there, I would suggest Nong Nooch Botanical Garden, I live in the far north of the country but have visited the Pattaya area, the gardens are butifull, and you need a half day or more to go around them.

I grow them too, and I would also like some ideas. I cook mine 2 ways, one in a pot with some water and potatoes, season them with salt and a bit of oil or butter, and that's it. 2. I cook them as I cook my asparagus, with salt, garlic powder, and olive oil. I grab a pan, I wash the beans, put them in the pan, add olive oil on top of it, then sprinkle salt and garlic powder, on medium heat. Cover with aluminum foil or a lid, turn them after a few minutes, repeat and done. I love them this way. The garlic powder is optional. Enjoy.

Hi from northwest Florida zone 8b. Last year I grew mine under my corn and they grew up my corn stalks, all was going good until a windstorm flattened my corn corn stalks. At that point I had already harvested most of my corn but the beans were just starting to produce well. It was a big tangled mess on the ground that I decided to let grow there. I harvest a lot of beans but the ants sort of took over the area and I finally let them have it when I got tired of being stung every time I harvested beans. I won't ever make that mistake again. I like to salt brine ferment veggies, that's a good way to preserve the beans too. I love garlic and hot peppers so I usually add them both to all the veg that I ferment. My recipe for the brine is 2 tbsp kosher coarse salt to 1 quart filtered or spring water. Happy Gardening 2024!

I dehydrate and then powder my excess yard long beans. Especially if I left them too long on the plant. If you powder them, you can add them to soups or smoothies for added nutrition. I want to try canning them next year.

Hi Jerra! I got a seed packet of Thai soldier beans, and I'm wondering if their related to Yard Long beans? I can't seem to find much information on Thai soldier beans aside from the one on your channel! I'm guessing they are in the same family and just a different variety? So the care should be the same?

Hi...quick question on pinching the tips....when do you start that? Can it be done when they are a couple weeks old? or do you wait till they are blooming?
@Dexeaur9 ай бұрын
Very informative. What would you rotate yard beans with?
@JerrasGarden8 ай бұрын
Rotate with any other crop type as long as it is not another bean type of thing. So like root crops (carrots), greens (lettuce), brassicas (broccoli etc...) and nightshades (tomatoes/peppers/eggplants), just to name a few, should be switched up.

I boil them and they’re delicious, wash the beans, cut them to equal 6” length, boil water and pour over beans in a pot, cover with 1/2” boiled water and wait till water boils then add some salt and tea spoon sugar, let boil for 5 more minutes, turnoff and leave covered for 15 minutes or until water is cold, enjoy during summer days

I have a question about these. Do they grow one vine per plant? Or do they send out multiple vines per plant? My idea is to single string them along my roof line instead of trellising them.

This isnt really yard bean related, but do you prefer/suggest grow bags over 5 gallon buckets? Im in 9b also (florida). I have a ton of 5 gallon buckets 🤷♀️
@JerrasGarden Жыл бұрын
I always say, the best thing to use is whatever you have. So go ahead and use the buckets. I would say there really is no difference besides grow bags dry out faster.
@JerrasGarden Жыл бұрын
If your growing a bigger crop, like sweet potatoes, then a 5 gallon bucket might be too small. I'm using 20 gallon or bigger grow bags for sweet potatoes and regular potatoes.
