I realized events are key. That and hitting plat then cooling once I hit 1 to optimize time and derank. (Dropping to gold 5 to get 10 tiers of gems for ranking without needing to diamond 1 sweat seems to bee the most consistent way if I just don't wanna play my meta deck). Duelist cup gems have to maximized due to how much they give. Other events I push based on how competitive my decks are or if they have a good loaner.

Same here if you want to be F2P you have to play the events. The events will give you a lot of gems if you play them enough and if you do well enough

If you max out the gems from events, dailies, and rank ups you can get about 8k per month

@arey256 it's hard to duel well which deck would you advise to use to farm gems cause there are some that are very frustrating to go up against sometimes u lose before ever getting a first turn

If you're looking to try this game for the first time, 100% go for it. Before I ever decided to put money down on the game I already had tons of staple cards and a couple of fully made decks. Konami is definitely a greed monster but they are extremely generous to new accounts in master duel

As a f2p player I can say as encouragement to players joining the game, I've got 20+ decks and still making more :D. It just takes time to get the snowball going and then you will have plenty of gems and materials to get everything you want (it takes ALOT of patience and grinding tho)

Honestly the first thing to do (even if it's not the funniest) is doing the SOLO mode rather than anything else. Clearing it can be done in like 2 hours if you use the right tool to get auto-wins (google for more info). Once the solo mode is 100% completed you'll be level 13 (= free gems in the lifetime mission section) + you'll have ~16 000 gems + lots of free cards + unlocked secret packs + some structure decks (not the best ones I concede). There are also some of the first secret missions where you have to craft a card and dismantle one, those earn you some SR and UR materials. There's a list of SR cards you can craft that unlock like 20-ish packs (2-3 unlocked packs for each card crafted) with, for each, you get a FREE PULL. List below : x1 Marshalling Field x1 Raider’s Knight x1 Performapal Skullcrobat Joker x1 Gateway to Chaos x1 Into the Void x1 Artemis, the Magistus Moon Maiden x1 Red Dragon Archfiend x1 Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon x1 Destined Rivals x1 Elemental Hero Shadow Mist I'd rather do that first than buying the bundle packs ;)

3 URs per 10 pack sounds like crazy luck to me at least lmao. I have a lot of droughts where I get 0 URs from a 10 pack and then only the one guarenteed afterwards.

For the Duel Pass, if you grab the Gold Upgrade later on, you'll get all the Gold rewards for the pass' current level at that point, so what I like to do is wait until I get close to Pass Level 50(where the Normal pass rewards run out), and THEN buy the Gold upgrade, getting refunded back half its cost in gems inmediately. If you're just starting out it might be helpful to get it a bit earlier than that if you're short on crafting materials, but I think the first sets of gems are better prioritized on the bundle deals and a structure deck that meshes with your desired build direction.

6:40 Buying the Duel Pass (Gold) does not have to be a "safe bet." Whenever you buy the Duel Pass (Gold), your current progress in the normal Duel Pass will be maintained e.g. if you have gotten to level 75 and then you decide to buy Duel Pass (Gold), you get all the gems and CPs from Duel Pass (Gold) up to level 75. Also, the 700 "break even" gems e.g. getting back the 700 gems from the Duel Pass (Gold) occurs around late 60s to early 70s, so if you want to wait until you have break even or gain net positive gems, you can wait until getting to late 60 or early 70s on the regular Duel Pass. So buying Duel Pass (Gold) early is a "safe bet" in most cases, but you can always wait until buying Duel Pass (Gold) is guaranteed to be break even or net positive in your situation. Buying Duel Pass (Gold) early takes you down 700 gems earlier that can be used for other things like Secret Packs that expire in 24 hours. So unless you can at least break even or you really need those extra SR/UR CP, I do not recommend buying Duel Pass (Gold) early. You can buy the Duel Pass (Gold) up until the Duel Pass itself expires.

@@tcase5533 I do not think you have read through my comment fully (and I do not play MW2, so I do not understand your argument either). I am only advocating for buying the Duel Pass (Gold) later especially given the context of this guide: Hex Lex's F2P account just went down 700 gems and has gained nothing back. Eventually, he will gain back those gems and gain some extra CP, but that is only after a couple of hundreds of Ranked and Event Duels. In this early state of account, he could have used those 700 gems to buy an additional Special Bundle Deal, or if he unlocked a Secret Pack that he liked, he could have spent those 700 gems towards that Secret Pack (especially since those Packs only stay available for 24 hours for each unlock). Whether Hex bought the Gold one or not, the Duel Pass is always active. If anything, using 700 gems while only have 0 progress in the Duel Pass seems frivolous; he spent gems for a method that gains back gems only if he duels (when he has no real deck) whereas he could have spent those gems on something that could immediately help him build an actual deck for dueling.

I’ve gotten that and pulled nothing but rares and normals. None of the effects really matter other than the actual glow around the packs, and even rainbow packs don’t guarantee a UR. Just a bunch of flashing lights that don’t mean anything.

You have to factor in new player luck as well so maybe its not the best to buy the bundles first and a secret pack which you want to build in.

So for the pack openings...I have watched enough to think I have a handle on it. The rambow always means a UR but with just a generic glow means it probably has an SR or a UR though it isn't guaranteed. As far as I can tell utopia and the lightning means absolutely nothing. Maybe just pack opening flare?

Afaik, the utopia means you got a holo/foil version, usually the lower end version whatever it's called, though sometimes royal finish too.

1 Tip I'd like to add as someone who has been playing yugioh on and off for 15 years, Find a deck you enjoy, a lot, and is something that is a blend of casual And competitive. I picked up Ninjas since it was the only Structure deck that resonated with me. My years of experience in deck building helps, sure, but the 3x structure deck gives the foundation to have fun and not get absolutely outclassed by some of the decks out there.The game seems incredibly forgiving towards Free To Play players from my first impression Sidenote, if you want custom music for your channel, free of charge, I'd love to provide!

You need a lot of Ur for the deck, I started a new account and crafted an optimal Salamangreat deck just using 3k gems and the 150 Sr and Ur credits you get in the beggining. Im just missing a copy of Impermanence, Ash and Maxx C.

Master pack doesn't actually contain all cards, just all that aren't in the legacy pack or banned. Edit: okay you mentioned that a few minutes later, you probably should've mentioned it the first time, no biggie though Adding to this, it is weirdly arbitrary what cards get put in the legacy pack, like Blue-Eyes is in there but not Dark Magician even though both have archetypes focused around their respective vanilla monsters. Also yeah the way MD frontloads its rewards is actually fantastic, I've been able to build a lot of meta decks and a few off-meta/gimmick decks, the only really "P2W" I've encountered is Grass. Does make the grind until you can build anything past the first few a bit of a slog at higher ranks though.

This game is not f2p friendly, for starters you have points to get cards you dont own, the problem is that you could have 1k points to get normal rarity cards, while 0 of ultra rare cards, and guess what, you need a lot of UR and SR. Also there is bot duplicate protection, which every other card game has.

Built 2 META decks without spending a dime when I first started. Tri Brigades and Eldlich back in season 1. Left for like half a year and still can make a full powered Branded Despia when I came back to the game just by playing events and completing solos. Not even ranked. Idk where you are getting "the game isnt f2p" at.

@@Ferna471 you are explaining a very situational situation, once you are done with the front loaded rewards the gem earning slows down a lot, plus the UR and SR you get are never "few" enough, you always end up needing a lot more CP for SR and UR, while you sit on thousands of CP for Normal and Rares.

I wouldn't go for the structure decks. When you purchase those any cards in them aren't able to be dismantled but the cards in these structure decks can also be found in secret packs and master packs. You could end up with more cards than you need with no way to dismantle for UR or SR CP. I bought the Salamangreat structure deck 3 times for that Link festival and I'm stuck with 6 UR cards I can't dismantle.
