Something I found out recently; a lot of "zero waste" alternate packagings(EG wood /aluminum tubs) don't do a good job of protecting the product from being damaged over time by the sun/elements, and could end up worsening the effectiveness overall. Some things are more important than being 100% zero waste, such as your health and your wallet-and in this case most of those "perfectly zero waste" options cost a fortune, so going with a more bulk option with plastic packaging is probably your best bet. I've found "all good" to have a great value large pump option, and "bobo botanicals" to have a great value aerosol option.

Aerosol also has been shown to be significantly less effective at applying an even layer and tends to waste a lot of product in the process so I would definitely go with the all good!

@@Sandra-hc7hj definitely a good point, personally I don't use aerosol at all but I know I have lazy friends who like a quick fix, that's a good cost effective way to help them swap to a more sustainable option!

Interesting! It’s important to use/buy what works best! These options are definitely expensive!! I always recommend looking for a non-nano zinc oxide sunscreen, even if it comes in plastic. 🎉😎 You gotta do what’s best for you!

I read this line "Some things are more important than being 100% zero waste, such as your health and your wallet" and I realized how human centric we human beings are. 100% zero waste prevents plastic from polluting and potentially killing all the animals out there. we can do better than that if we can all just sacrifice a TINY little bit and go out when it is not scorching, wear protection, don't go in the water (will you die?) or be less obsessed about our looks.

Yay it's the long awaited sunscreen video!! I need sunscreen since the Hawaii sun makes me burn when I take a walk for 20 minutes lol. I really want to try Little Hands Hawaii because it seems really good. I have Kinship but it feels heavy and sticky to me but I'm almost done with it. I got one locally from AO Organics in a tin so that will be interesting. Thank you again for this video!

🎉 If Kinship feels heavy, I think you’ll like the feel of the facestick from Little Hands! Nice! I haven’t tried that brand! Thanks for watching! 😊

The first three products are not zero waste. Should I keep skipping or is this all greenwashing?

I have been using REN's Clean Screen Mineral SPF 30, it's a mattifying face sunscreen and they do use non-nano zinc oxide. The texture is more of a lotion, so application is pretty easy, it's vegan and it has a bit of a scent which I do not think is added fragrance, but I do not find it offensive. It's a mineral sunscreen, so you do get a bit of a cast. It's a bit on the pricy side but the good thing is that it's sold at Sephora, so it's easier to find for many people. On their website REN talks about their sustainability goals and what they have achieved so far, their goal is to be zero waste by the end of this year. They currently use post-consumer recycled plastic packaging for a lot of their products.

Love your reviews as always! If you're interested in learning more about the science behind reef safe sunscreens, Lab Muffin has a video about it. Unfortunately sunscreens needing to be reef safe isn't really backed by science and like a lot of branding is based on fear mongering instead of science.

Thank you!! I’ll have to check out the video. I’ve listened to some marine biologists that recommend using non-nano zinc oxide, so that’s what I do! 😊🎉🌊🏖

as a poc, mineral sunscreens can be a little annoying in terms of white/weird purple casts which is why i decided to give chemical sunscreens a go. i’ve been using the garnier green labs canna-b sunscreen it’s vegan, cruelty free, spf 30, fragrance free, no white cast, ewg certified, and the bottle (not including the pump) is made from 100% recycled plastic!

just replying this to say i love this sunscreen and haven't heard anyone else talk about it!! also its a serum, moisturizer, and spf all in one so you are reducing waste by not buying three separate products!

That is why I use tinted sunscreen. The Madara stem cells, Raw elements are good. My only problem with sunscreen is that I have oily skin.. Hard to find one that can do it all.😅

Oh, man, I wish I'd seen this before I bought the Badger sunscreen. I have oily skin and it was soooooo greasy. I was hesitant to try another zero waste brand because it's so expensive and I didn't want to risk buying something else that didn't work. When I run out of my current tube I think I might try the Hawaii one. Thanks for your reviews!

I had to ditch my Alba Botanica sunscreen after watching your vid. I found it may not be as pure as I thought. I went ahead and got the Badger. I like it so much better. There is a bit of a cast but it faded pretty quickly with some rubs. I love that there's no scent and no plastic. It was pricey ( $14- ish) but well worth it in my opinion. Next time I'll wait until there is a sale to get it locally or online :D It's suppose to last an entire year so I'm gonna use it in our melty California sun. Thank you for the review!

I've also used little hands stick as well as the tin for the body and the after sun aloe tin. I love them but the 1 issue I have with the packaging is that after sitting in the sun for a while it begins to melt and leak out. Still works but personally it wasn't the best option for long days outside where I'd need to reapply

Thanks so much for this video! I've been struggling to find a good organic sunscreen since Lush discontinued their Sun Bloc. :( How's the badger with your clothes? Marking and staining is up there as one of the most important factors when buying sunscreen. No point in buying sustainable sunscreen if I need a whole new wardrobe every summer hey?!
