The amount of natural/eco-friendly influencers who claim that sunscreen is dangerous and sunbathing has to negative effects is disturbing! I am so glad you don't spread dangerous misinformation!

RIGHT! It scares me too! I'm sure there are some not-so-good ingredients in chemical sunscreens but these mineral ones are good to go plus I am not risking skin cancer over here!

Wearing SPF is so important and also applying the correct amount to get the SPF on the package. You should be using a 1/4 -1/3 tsp on your face and about a shotglass full for your body. I'm getting to the age where more and more people i know are getting skin cancer removed.

Just some reminders about sunscreen for everyone! You need 1/4 teaspoon of sunscreen for your face, and 1/2 tsp for your face, neck, and ears. You need a shot glass worth of sunscreen for your whole body. Reapply your sunscreen every two hours if possible for best protection because the SPF level degrades over time, leaving you more vulnerable to sun damage. Reapply more often if you are in the water or sweating, and especially if you are toweling off as friction removes the layer of sunscreen. There is no such thing as a safe tan because a tan in the sun is your body’s way of telling you it getting damaged by the sun. The most important part of applying sunscreen is making sure you have an even layer across your skin so it can create a barrier against the sun. And, most importantly, while it is important to lessen our waste as much as possible, if you have sensory issues and the one sunscreen you like isn’t zero waste still apply it, still repurchase it. Sunscreen is the easiest way to prevent skin cancer and is an important health precaution. And of course, listen to the Australian rules of sun protection: slip, slap, slop, seek, slide!

A big one I forgot! Don’t forget to protect your eyes, nose, ears, and lips! They’re particularly AWFUL places to get sunburns and skin cancer and it can be easily prevented. If your eyes are sensitive it’s completely reasonable to have a separate sunscreen for around your eyes and one for the rest of your face/body. A sunscreen for the skin around your eyes is sustainable as long as you use it and it keeps you safe!

Okay sike, I have more information actually. Spray sunscreen isn’t truly effective unless you rub it into your skin, as the most important aspect of sunscreen is to create a barrier layer. Since spray sunscreen is a mist, the mist is dispersed so you need to rub it in to make it cohesive and connected. Sunscreen sticks have been shown to be not as effective as advertised, and so even if you apply what you would consider a good amount of sunscreen via stick, there are high chances you’re only getting SPF 20 out of an SPF 50 stick. LabMuffinBeautyScience has a video demonstrating it if you would like more information from a trusted source (she’s a cosmetic chemist.) Also, sunscreen SPF doesn’t add up, so if you apply an SPF 50 and an SPF 30 sunscreen on top of each other, you are only getting SPF 50 protection. If you are going to layer your sunscreens (for example if your eyes are sensitive so you are using an eye friendly sunscreen but you want to use up a different one around the rest of your face) you should wait 5-10 minutes for the first sunscreen to dry down before applying your second one to make sure they don’t mix, which could ruin the formulation and make them not work as well.

So grateful to have found your channel!! I use earth harbor’s sunscreen for my face (bc most sunscreens clog my pores). For my body I have been using project reef sunscreen, they use recycled plastic in their packaging and are b certified and climate neutral. I am really impressed by babo’s transparency and like that they have a spray option!

Thanks for this. There’s a lot of sunscreens that claim to be eco-friendly and effective, but I find that it’s difficult to actually know.

This is super helpful! I have such an aversion to the scent - the sunscreen smell - that I will use whatever doesnt have that scent. Do any of these have a scent, even being unscented? I have found one that truly does not have any scent, it's by Hero I believe? No idea about it's environmental impact, though.

The Kinfield ones have a scent but I think Babo and Sun Juju are definitely unscented! As a chronic migraine girlie, I also hate scents and I could tolerate these no problems!

We used Babo Botonicals spray and it stayed on our skin like chalk and It stayed white on our deck we had to scrub it with a scrub brush. It was awful

I don't usually go for spray on, but Thrive Market also makes a spray on mineral sunscreen. I got it free last year, and it's still going strong (we don't use full body sunscreen often, only for the beach or pool). But it works super great! For anybody else who orders from Thrive. The only downside is the white stains on clothing/shoes. Make sure not to spray it on your flip flops.
