in January 2017 I bought an x100f. I was transitioning to professional work and although I liked it very much, the lens was a bit too soft and it lacked a good high ISO performance. I moved on and bought a Leica Q by the end of 2018. Apart from a much sharper lens, it was stabilized and that was a great advantage. The color was also more neutral and required less or no tweaking. I do keep both as personal cameras and sometimes I carry the Leica as a backup camera for work. As said, I like the Fuji. I like how small and unobstrusive it is. It works well during daylight and is ideal for street photography. It’s a nice niche camera, but it is hard for me to understand the hype unless the 100v is radically better than the f in many different ways. Sometimes new cameras represent a leap over their predecessors. A good example is the Nikon Z9 or previously the D850. But however much I like the little Fuji, I don’t think all the hype is that justified.

I have had all variations of the X100 apart from the X100T I owned the original, the S, the F, and now the V. I've also owned the Leica Q (what a great camera) The 100V is SUBSTANTIALLY better than the 100F (and by that I mean way sharper images up close and wayyyy faster / more accurate autoffocus)

This hype is rather odd to me; I had the camera at some point back in early 2021, used it for a short amount of time, but overall, wasn't too happy / impressed with it (it's a good camera, no question, though, nothing "special"; the V had been my second X100 after having owned the "original" about 10 years ago). Sold it with some loss and never looked back - to me, it's a mystery that, out of the sudden and about 2 years after its release, there's this demand (instead of a new version by Fujifilm).

I’ve a T, 2 F’s and now a V. Love them all and used the built in ND filter all the time. Here’s something I’ve discovered but heard no one mention: the 3stop ND was perfect. Shooting in bright afternoon light wide open at ISO 160, I get the red, 2000+ SS warning, but when I turn on the 4stop ND the SS drops to between 160 and 250. That’s much too slow and NOT a versatile range. Have that at only f2.8. As I said, at 3stops this would have been a SS around 360-500. Does anyone else wonder why Fuji upped the ND filter to 4stops? Every talks like this is an improvement. What am l missing?

Quick question: I love my X100V too but I have a gripe that I sort of need to confirm with someone who knows their s**t. I enjoy the optical viewfinder but I struggle with the light meter - if I miss the exposure by a long way, for example forgetting my settings or leaving the ND filter on, the dot on the light meter dial disappears. It’s like “sorry, man, you’re way off so I can’t tell you what to do”. I often have to take it away from my eye, check all my settings and/or check the screen to see where I’m at (not the point of the ovf, really). I’m capable of shooting with a simple light meter on film cameras, using a v basic one on my phone, but this problem really bugs me. Have you experienced it? If not, what might I be doing wrong? Does it tell you somewhere that you’re way over or way under on the ovf? J
@carlosdomi2 жыл бұрын
Hey James! I am not exactly sure if I am following. As far as I can remember, I don't have any light metering dot on my screen, nor in EV or OV. I did try to replicate what you are saying and overexpose almost to the point where the entire image is white. In this case, the focus point struggles to find enough contrast between pixels, it just doesn't focus and ends up disappearing. Same thing happens when it's too dark (or you leave the ND on). There isn't really anything we can do about it. I shamelessly shoot most of the time in "aperture priority" with certain minimum and maximum ISO set to my taste. Also, if I am not mistaken, you can prioritise shutter speed or ISO - I tell the camera that when there's need for more light, it should increase ISO instead of decrease shutter speed (and therefore risking a blurry photo).
@jameslenney2 жыл бұрын
@@carlosdomi Hi, Thanks for trying but it's not their sort of thing you'll see if you're shooting automatic aperture, speed or ISO because the camera will always compensate. It's purely a problem for us picky purists who want to do it all manually - there's a little dot/arrow thingy that tells you how far under or over you are, but if it reaches the end of the scale, it disappears altogether. Wouldn't matter too much except sometimes you don't have to be way off with your exposure (a few clicks with the speed wheel and a couple on the aperture ring is sometimes all that's needed). Other cameras have dials that give you a better visual and show you which direction you've gone. Of course, this is all resolvable if you consider your settings beforehand (I'm usually close with my first guess these days) but I'd like it if the meter just tells me without me having to think about it. Anyway, I love Vienna and I love the vid . Thanks for the work you and other creators do - I know how much work goes into it (videos take forever) and it really helps spread the love for photography. James

@@WACONimages Ah yeah, that's true. I forgot it has the leaf shutter which is awesome. it surprised me too to see that all the photos I had chosen were shot at f2 :D but it makes sense, I prefer images with some depth over the ones where everything is sharp. And because of the ND filter built-in, I can still use the f2 in very bright situations.

I'm amazed your shots are mostly set at aperture f2. I can't do that with my X100S, the corners will be all blurred

How is the durability of the viewfinder on these cameras? I have concerns about the front viewfinder how it is exposed and how well it would hold up over time

Nice video and really nice photos as well! You did really well buying it before the hype made this camera impossible to get! 📸 Cheers

all these videso are funny to me now. i've been eyeballing the x100 series since the x100T, but apparently I only want one now because of hype. good to know
@carlosdomi2 жыл бұрын
well, this video actually says that you want one because of its hybrid viewfinder, image quality, weather sealing, compact size, design, fuji color and simulations etc… not because of the hype.

What is "Classic Chrome", is it a profile that you can choose directly from the camera ? Thanks for the video !
@carlosdomi2 жыл бұрын
correct, that's one of the film simulations that you can choose from. There are plenty of them, with very different tones and moods
