Easily the best camera videos I've ever seen. I feel I'm watching a studio trailer each time, not a second wasted. Excellent storytelling. Images that personally grab me and speak to my desires to create something with feeling. Your amazing use of music is making me realize this is so refreshingly different and why it feels weird to call this a gear review. It's because it's so different from traditional formats! Even since I first started photography years ago I can never be bothered to watch someone review a camera in video format. Someone will talk about specs for too long and the stills will be basic, the performance analysis aspect puts me to asleep. You create what feels like a small film for a review, a much better watch! In about 4 minutes, you sold me on a camera I will probably never purchase. You got me excited about how to achieve these gorgeous photos. I commend you for how tight and focused your dialogue feels because I retained the feeling that you love this camera and that I want to go out and shoot wider and crop because it looks amazing. It is so so easy to watch this and I want you to know that! Your studio shots are amazing and feel like tech porn in a scifi movie, beautiful compositions and colors that leave me obsessed with the aesthetic and mechanics of cameras! The patreon portion was so good, a masterful scene in what is only a small fraction of youtube video! I mean you ARE world building and it's amazing. Each photograph made me want to get out and shoot. Nobody is doing this like you are, your efforts are a joy to watch. I mean come on, the fact that you are a machinist as well and shot that portion in a beautiful way just blew me away, I literally said, "dude, what the fuck, that's awesome." To build your own parts requires precision and great intuition, and fits so well into this impressive display you are putting on. God damn Thank you for doing something different so well. Gonna go shoot at 28mm :) and enjoy catching some cinematic frames

I haven't gone out in a while because of my condition but it's videos like this that really make me want to go out and try again anyways. These shots were beautiful..

@@Cpt.Hubble I love the aspect ratio. Myself, I shoot with a 5DSr and often use old retro lenses. Go for a high ISO or add noise in post. Make your shots a tad blurrier, lower contrasts, play with the tints and you can get amazing results. The 5DSr's high MP count gives you plenty of space to play around with. The XPAN's overal experience is super cool. The camera looks nice, robust, retro... and it for sure adds to the joy of photography. But in the end it's photos I'm making. So this works for me. :)

If GFX sensor "cut in halph horizontally (to place in two cameras)" this will perfectly match Xpan proportions. This is what Fuji should do for TX-3 in my opinion. Crop on post is not interesting, I'd do not accept this personally. Untill TX-3 do not exist, I'd buy TX-1/2 but not GFX. I actually do have TX-1 - the best camera for me.
@AaronAnalog12 жыл бұрын
I just picked up a GFX 50Sii partially for this reason. The new kit zoom is wonderful and is a 28mm ff equivalent on the widest end which I find the perfect focal length, equal to the XPan. Also, the GFX has quickly become my favorite camera to adapt older film lenses to. I’ve been using Leica M and Pentax 67 lenses on it and I love the results. Sales pitch over.

Have a 50r. I've found that shooting the 65x24 aspect ratio is an enjoyable phase but have challenged myself this year to only shoot the native 4x3 aspect and try to fill up the entire sensor with interest. Only a slight crop in post if required but in the 4x3 aspect. Shooting mainly landscapes it's harder than it looks! and really pushes you to decide what to include in the frame. When you capture a good image you know it! Will never sell my 50r. Its coming to the grave with me. lol..

I have been watching your videos for some time admiring your style and storytelling and wondering why your channel didn't get more attention. Now that you have released a video that got picked up by the algorithm you are growing very fast. You will probably hit 100k subs today. At this rate, I can't see why you can't become the biggest film photography channel on youtube. Keep making videos and congrats on 100k subs.

One of my favorite of all your videos so far. Not because of the camera discussed or the panoramic medium, but because of the inspiring mood of the photos you showed and the narrative feel created by the editing and music. I felt like I was inside a relaxed cyberpunk iteration of a slightly dystopian alternative modern Asia.

I have been watching a lot and I mean A LOT of different creators in my life which is as long that I can say: I am a VHS-Kid so I’ve seen some things. And your style, your art direction for ME, personally, is so on point. It is freaking insane that I haven’t found your channel only now by chance! Chapeau and keep it up.

Has anyone noticed that the Hasselblad Xpan shutter button that appears in the video is not the original? I have the Fuji TX1 and that wooden button in the video cannot be screwed in any way. It appears to have been glued over the original shutter release, which seems a bit risky on a camera of this value.

I wonder what focal length in 35mm format would correlate to X pan's focal lengths if we were to crop the images. This filmic take on photos is definitely intriguing and something I would like to try.

Hi GX, great video as usual. I have an XPan and was always under the impression (I could be wrong and I’m up for a discussion as its always interested me) that the 45mm in pano mode had the depth of a 45mm lens but the width of a 28mm lens…meaning that the resulting image (especially apparent with close up portraits) was unique to the XPan…basically as it had the compression of the 45mm it renders more background blur and a tighter in feel but with extra width (sorry that’s quite hard to explain)……a 28mm lens on a 35mm sensor/film would just have the depth and width of the 28mm lens? The 45mm when switched back to single 35mm standard mode resembles a normal 45mm lens on a 35mm sensor/film. A better way to get the XPan look would be to crop a 6x7 image down to the XPan ratio as the width & compression of the 6x7 area of image is more similar.
@GxAce2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you are confusing it with an anamorphic lens! Anamorphic lenses widen horizontally but keep the vertical focal length, if you will. The XPAN uses a spherical lens with a larger image circle to cover this dual 35mm width and is essentially cropping down for a medium format image circle. Depth of field and compression are mathematically equivalent with lenses of different focal lengths on different sensor sizes. Remember, the sensor size is just “cropping” a usable section out of image circle the lens is projecting.
@JamesDaviesPhotography2 жыл бұрын
@@GxAce thank you for clearing that up, really appreciated. I actually bought the Great Joy 50mm anamorphic lens last month and pair it on my SL2-s…I use a monitor to desqueeze 1.8 so I can see what I’m photographing and the results have been amazing, especially close up environmental portraits. I’m sure you have tried this method before but if not then it’s good fun to try for cinema shots. Keep up the videos, I love them

Fuji really needs to put the TX-1 65:24 aspect ratio into their X-mount cameras, not just their GFX. Irks me to no end that they haven't.

And with the new 40 mpx sensors it would make sooooo much sense.

@SuperSuperka2 жыл бұрын
GFX sensor, being split horizontally - I mean produced this way: two panoramic sensors instead of one - will give perfect TX-1 ratio and this (building around panoramic sensor) is what Fuji needs to do instead of croping.
@thebitterfig99032 жыл бұрын
@@GxAce Thanks for that. I'm sure they don't read my comments. :D I've found that with my XPro3, adapting a 17mm lens, telling the camera I'm adapting a 26mm lens, and using the OVF framelines for a 16:9 aspect ratio gets me a pretty reasonable guide for cropping in post. It seems like it has a pretty similar field of view to what the 45mm would on the XPan... But dang do I want them to just do it normally.
@thebitterfig99032 жыл бұрын
@@SuperSuperka Such a camera is no substitute for a crop. Not even close. Suppose a GFX mount camera with a sensor about 51.5mm by 19mm or so, to match the image circle. That'd be in the TX-1 ratio. It'd still cost $5000. No good for me or for nearly anyone else. Might as well not exist, same as the XPan itself might as well not exist for us. Even if they made one, any reasonable Fuji fan would be banging the drum for a crop in their normal cameras.
