Saints fan here. Great video but one part was wrong - Gao was a ‘silent’ owner. He gave pretty much full control to Martin Semmens. The credit you gave to Gao, should go to Martin 👍
@lewisphillips275 Жыл бұрын
As a saints fan, before watching the video, it was a couple of awful managerial appointments that really damaged us. Mauricio pellegrino and now Nathan jones. We sacked puel after we reached a cup final (and should have won) and a 7th place finish, and we replace him with a manager from deportivo alaves with a win rate of 34%??? Awful decision making from the club. Sacking Adkins after back to back promotions was also a strange one. Marcus Liebherr really saved us, and when his daughter inherited it she didn’t really care. And then Gao wanted to treat us like a child who wasn’t spoilt and have us be “self-sufficient” while signing players like guido carrillo who scored 0 goals for us as a striker, despite being our record signing. But people forget just HOW GOOD our team was for league 1, probably the best team in league 1 in terms of players there has ever been.

As a saints fan, this is a wider issue than just the mistakes of 2022/23. It’s the boards fault and the multiple chairman that took over that are to blame. We never replaced players like Lambert, Lallana, Rodriguez, VVD, Fonte (the list is endless). We lost that skill of scouting talent of not just youth but of motivators too! All our problems and consequences have spring from this! The only player who should be praised is JWP but he’ll go now in the cheap to a mediocre club like Villa or West Ham. It’s shocking and devastating to see a club that I fell in love with football with go down. I can’t see us coming back up without a new board and new players. Selles shouldn’t have got the job and we should have gone in for Sean Dyche ages ago. I don’t have much hope for Saints and to be honest this could be the end of a club that use to be a money-ball club before it was cool to be one like Brighton and Brentford are today. It’s a shame, a shambles and a club that has no sense of management. Chopping and changing managers and owners haven’t helped and no financial backing from owners like Gao Jisheng especially killed this club’s PL status yet at the same time the PL status was the reason why Gao Jisheng bought us in the first place. Never backing managers with funding- making transfers that suited Ralph when we had Jones in (which was the ultimate decision that got us relegated). Never replacing key players and always thinking of profits never helped me not evolving our youth development at the club didn’t help either and most of all- not having any leaders or motivators towards a vision didn’t help. It’s not a good day for football or Southampton. It’s depressing to see what once was the template to how a club should be run now be the template of how a club shouldn’t be run. I thought in 10 years time from 2012 we would be champions of the Europa league- not relegators to the championship. It’s a really sad day on the south coast but the stormy seas and choppy waters have been coming for years - yet we did nothing and sank deep towards the seabed

We're currently paying the price for a series of poor managerial appointments, as well as several marquee signings that flopped. We've been forced to sign young potential, not identifying the influence of players like Romeu and Ings, neither of whom we have replaced. As much as I like Lavia, he needs a mentor.
@lwandomadikizela2213 Жыл бұрын
Southampton since 2017 went to the dumps by poor managerial appointments, signing multiple dross players and not having youth academy prospects since Ward Prowse and Shaw. Hasenhuttl did get them going after his first 9-0 humiliation and in 2020 are in a European race but his second 9-0 humiliation things went up in flames. Only survived because there were far worse teams than them. Hasenhuttl got the boot and still things are way worse under Nathan Jones. I don't want Southampton to go down but relegation is inevitable. They ain't the worst team in the Premier League. Still believe Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Everton are far worse than them.

This is painful 😂. It’s been a gentle decline but I’m not surprised we are in the position we are. Crap signings A.Armstrong Bednarek, Walcott, Elyo, ect, even worse managerial appointments Hughes, pellegrino, Jones have all contributed to it. Honestly I hate to admit it but being relegated and having a reset seems the best option for the long term. If we can keep half our current squad together we’ll be straight back up im sure.

I've been a Southampton fan all my life, and it's not pretty. This season in the Championship, we're only beating small teams like QPR, Sheffield Wednesday, and Plymouth. There just aren't enough of those to keep up enough points to scrape playoffs. It's not liquidation threats like it was before, but when Russell Martin gets sacked halfway through this season and we throw away loads of money on a new team and manager, who can't keep us up in the championship, and it ends in a mid-table League One finish and £70m debt, don't say I didn't warn you.

The rise and fall? Luckily for Southampton they have been relegated to a broken Championship where teams that have come down from the Prem are on different level playing field to the others. 75 million promised from the Prem in parachute payments (while others get about 20 mil) a hoarde of players to sell they have no chance of worrying about fair play rules where clubs can only lose 14 mil a year for 3 years. If Southampton dont jump back up within 2 years they've been mismanaged. Simple as.Burnley bought 26 players last summer. Clubs like Bristol City could only squeeze in 2 or 3 frees for fear of busting fair play rules and their wage limit.

And growing forsty relationships between the UK and China ment the owner was order by the Chinese Government to sell the club! With an outright bad on future investment, this coupled with natural downturn of Southampton FC ( know your your facts ) However over the covid years selling Southampton was a challenge which took a few years but in the end the Chinese was forced into taking a 100 million lost. We aren't the only ones to suffer in this way Chelsea had a better time of it but Political turmoil hit them too!
