So true. Because of the collapse of ITV Digital in 2001, Championship Clubs were suddenly millions out of pocket, and without Nigel Doughty, who's to say that Forest wouldn't have 'done a Derby County' ? We owe him so much. I remain convinced that his heart-attack was a result of the abuse he got in 2011 over the sacking of Billy D and the 6 months of turmoil thereafter.

NOTE: Trevor Francis wasn't played as a striker for Forest, but as a right-winger. Peter Withe's actual replacement (pronounced 'with') was Garry Birtles, who started that season as a forward for nearby non-league side Long Eaton United before Cloughie signed him. Birtles scored on his third first team game against Liverpool in the European Cup, aged just 22, and was Forest's leading scorer in his debut season as a senior player. Pretty crazy story that's often overlooked in the wake of everything else that happened to Forest in that period.
@markryan5892 Жыл бұрын
Trevor Francis was NOT a right winger. He was played out of position to accommodate himself , birtles, and woodcock. When woodcock left for cologne in 1979 Francis reverted back to his natural position up front.

Appreciate a video like this about my beloved Forest, I know you had to whizz some parts of forests history but I would like to point out about Frank Clark’s time at Forest. He signed three key players that made a difference in forests first two seasons under his reign (93-94 & 94-95); Stan Collymore, Lars Bohienen and Colin Cooper. Then summer 95 collymore was sold for a record fee and Bohienen sold to the premier league champions Blackburn. Frank Clark’s signed replacements that were either injured or didn’t step up cost him his job in the season 96-97. One fact you need to put right, Forest made the Quarter Finals of UEFA cup and the FA Cup in 95-96. Not knocked out early in the UEFA cup. I hope this helps.
@rjw4762 Жыл бұрын
A comment on Forest reaching the QFs of the UEFA Cup in 1996 - we were the only British club to reach the last 8 of any European Competition that season - going further than the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc. Of course, Bayern Munich did beat us 7-2 over the 2 legs and go on to win the Cup, but let's gloss over that , eh !!??

I enjoyed that. Particularly liked the 'still' photo of Bowyer scoring the 3rd goal in the European Semi Final against Cologne. I was there, standing directly behind that goal, right on the barrier. Whoever took that photo must have been crouching on the ground behind the goal just in front of me. It's exactly the view I had! Memories. Things looking up for Forest now.... but as any Forest fan will tell you, it's always an interesting ride!

@@HITCFootball It was. Cologne were so quick, 2 goals up before Forest drew breath. Every time they went forward, they looked like scoring. We pulled it back and Bowyer scored the 3rd right in front of me and I thought we'd win as we were now 3-2 up. Midway through the second half Cologne brought on a Japanese substitute, who scored for them bringing it to 3-3. Headlines in one of the tabloids??? 'Forest sunk by Japanese sub'. After the game Cloughie made his famous 'I hope no one's writing us off' speech for the TV cameras. It's been a very long time without these peaks!

An Arabic KZbinr named Balon (or something similar) had made this documentary video about Nottingham Forest under the Brian Clough era. Basically, the arrival of Clough had turned both Nottingham Forest and Derby County into one of the fiercest football rivalries in UK. This because Clough had spent six years with Derby from 1967 to 1973, at which he led the club to the First Division title in 1972 and the European Cup semifinal a year later. Clough is not sacked after Nottingham's relegation in the inaugural Premier League season (1992-93), but he was retired from the football career after his compatriot, Peter Taylor, had died three years earlier. This was also followed by the departure of Roy Keane, who became a major football patron in England with Manchester United.

I'd have especially laughed if you told me that we'd be promoted after going 2-0 down against Middlesbrough with the 1 point from 7 games we got off derby. it doesn't seem real. there is a very long way to go, and even if it doesnt work out at the end of the season, Steve would have done something none of our fans would have thought would have happened and got us to the premier league. in cooper we trust.
