Very talented lad. If you're under the age of 50, it's hard to imagine the backlash this band got from the rock crowd of the late 70s/early 80s. They probably had more album burnings than The Beatles. Got to the point they couldn't even record anymore, instead relegated to songwriters on others' hits. Time smooths the hard edges, and hopefully people appreciate how talented this band really was.

I grew up with Bee Gees music from their days emerging in the 60's as an incredible 3 piece harmony to their stellar work after the breakup of the band, and albums like Main Course and Children of the World and then of course, Saturday Night Fever. Subsequently, we had Spirits Having Flown, but a p-ssed off DJ in Chicago led a US wide ban on everything disco and everyone forgot about anything the Bee Gees did outside of Saturday Night Fever. Though they had continued to write hits for Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers (Islands in the Stream) and Celine Dione (Immortality), their own reputation as a group took over a decade to come back. Watching Barry Gibb taught me how to use open tuning and Maurice taught me that a grooving bass line was more important than learning Roundabout note-for-note. An incredible band, and so sad the only one left is Barry after losing Andy, Maurice, and Robbin (in that order). Count me as having always been an unapologetic fan of the The Bee Gees.

This stop / start tug that makes everything ebb and flow that's constant. Genius. If you were dancing The Bump with someone, he is hitting it on every bump. Which truly, when dancing, is when you're using your hips to their max. Accenting that one beat, in a 4 beat pattern. It's just a smart move.

How could he sing and play those fantastic bass lines. What a bass monster!! Up there with Geddy Lee and Sting.

Maurice Gibb was the most talented when it came to instruments. If not for him, I don't believe they would have ever gotten back together.
