My top 5 no particular order Jive Talking/Night Fever/Staying Alive/You shoulda be dancing(yeah!)/Grease.I remember we couldn't believe our ears back then.Such perfection. Such a lush Top notch production at the time!Another levelStill are Unbeatable! To me Bee Gees and Abba made the most well crafted stuff of the '70s in maistream music scene ..and also in production terms i would also add the likes of Giorgio Moroder and Frank Farian.

I was born in 1974 and I feel like if the Bee Gees had not been over-played on the radio back when they were popular, they would be a constant in today's music scene. You hardly hear them alongside the other 70's stuff because they aren't as 'cool.' Those baselines are incredible.

Very talented lad. If you're under the age of 50, it's hard to imagine the backlash this band got from the rock crowd of the late 70s/early 80s. They probably had more album burnings than The Beatles. Got to the point they couldn't even record anymore, instead relegated to songwriters on others' hits. Time smooths the hard edges, and hopefully people appreciate how talented this band really was.

I grew up with Bee Gees music from their days emerging in the 60's as an incredible 3 piece harmony to their stellar work after the breakup of the band, and albums like Main Course and Children of the World and then of course, Saturday Night Fever. Subsequently, we had Spirits Having Flown, but a p-ssed off DJ in Chicago led a US wide ban on everything disco and everyone forgot about anything the Bee Gees did outside of Saturday Night Fever. Though they had continued to write hits for Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers (Islands in the Stream) and Celine Dione (Immortality), their own reputation as a group took over a decade to come back. Watching Barry Gibb taught me how to use open tuning and Maurice taught me that a grooving bass line was more important than learning Roundabout note-for-note. An incredible band, and so sad the only one left is Barry after losing Andy, Maurice, and Robbin (in that order). Count me as having always been an unapologetic fan of the The Bee Gees.

He is just awesome. I always thought that. For one stage of their career, he was their band! Plus he was a funny guy. He didn't seem to ever take himself seriously. He seemed very genuine. And he was a killer bassist. And that discipline you speak of. To completely NOT play anything. That is genius. It adds a whole other swing to the rhythm. This stop / start tug that makes everything ebb and flow that's constant. Genius. If you were dancing The Bump with someone, he is hitting it on every bump. Which truly, when dancing, is when you're using your hips to their max. Accenting that one beat, in a 4 beat pattern. It's just a smart move.

What I have always loved about 'How deep Is Your Love' are those two bell-like overtone notes right after the 2nd line 'I feel you touch me in the pouring rain' (ding ding) AND the moment.....etc.

@@niltonbartalini9837 Yes it was Barry who originated the falsetto when producer Arif Mardin was asking if he could "shriek", and he sang this on the studio albums. But Maurice sang the falsetto live, at least for Nights on Broadway, while Barry sang in his normal voice. Maurice's falsetto was as good as Barry's. Very talented man.

That was a great demonstration of how Maurice's bass playing excelled in ways you wouldn't expect, like spacing out the notes so they had more force when they landed, and shaping the song around a complex but not busy groove.

The bee gees are still today underated and underappreciated musicians, best and most original group of all times by far, they defined genres and styles but really created an entire era in music basically modern culture around the world that all musicians still feed from today without knowing or realizing it, Daft Punk, Royksopp, EDM, trance, most everything originates with them, but their work after the famous snf era is still more impressive, covering all kinds of genres of music, composing for all the best artist of the era, collaborating and creating over 1000 songs in their lifetime and they could have probably defined the 21 century if not for the premature deaths. The best musicians ever, I am fortunate to know that, but not many do.
