The history of Western/Persian relations is of competing influence and mutual harm that ends up being a detriment to both. The most standout example being the Roman ("Byzantine")-Sassanid Wars that resulted in both of them worn down, and when they were exhausted and had nothing left to give, the Arabs invaded and conquered them both easily.

Just a correction: Persia didn't become Iran after the revolution. The king, Reza Pahlavi asked other nations to call Persia, Iran (which is what Iranians called their country for centuries) and they agreed to do so. Persia is a western alteration of Pars, referring to the tribe of Cyrus the Great, the Achaemenid Empire, and the region they were from. This name had been around in western books since before Alexander the Great even though it is not the country's name, Iranshahr.

It was until the Genghis Khan's sons came about, after that it was always in a decline, a bit of a revival in Abbas's the second regime during the Safawid era, but he was mostly just: "kill everyone who says no" typa guy, so it went back to straight decline after that. Also Georgians would have probably been Muslim if it wasn't for him killing everyone there from a baby crying to an old man dying.

Just one note: Persia already changed its official outwardly recognized name to "Iran" by 1935. Shah Reza Pahlavi was getting buddy buddy with Nazi Germany and as a way to promote shared Aryan ties between the Persian/Iranic peoples and Germanic peoples changed the official name of the country to "Iran" (land of the Aryans). However, "Persia" and "Persians" were always terms used by outsiders to describe the country and its people (starting with the Greeks). Internally, the country and its people was always known as "Iran" and "Iranians" since ancient times.

9:11 Persia turned into Iran in 1979??? Where did you get that exactly??? Our people have always called our country Iran and the request to the international community to refer to our country as Iran instead of Persia happened in 1934 though it didn't became the norm until after world war II. Also you underplayed the role Safavids had in Iranian history. Safavids were the first time in almost a 1000 years since Sassanids fell to Muslim Arab invasion that Iran had unified under a native dynasty and the Safavids were the first after Sassanids to call their domain "the state of Iran" and thus can be considered the foundation of the modern Iranian state. Also Safavids, Afsharids and Qajars, despite speaking Turkic dialects, were quiet different from Seljuks or other nomadic Turkic tribes who conquered Iran. Afsharids and Qajars had assimilated and mixed a lot to the point that they became Iranian and Safavids had partial Kurdish ancestry and were native Iranians not nomads, though they had two generations of political marriages with Aq Qoyunlu Turkomans and relied on tribes, many of them Turkic for their military.

@chad iranian Yes and no, the people of Iran are largely decended from those who have been here for thousands of years since genetic studies on the modern samples and comparisons with ancient DNA shows little change. But those people (the most famous of them the Kingdom of Elam) share little with modern Iranians in language and culture. The modern identity of Iran begins with the migration of Iranic tribes, a sub-branch of Indo-Europeans, they mixed with the locals and gave their language and culture resulting in the creation of the Iranian tribes the most famous of which were the Medes, Persians and Parthians. However the early Iranian dynasties didn't call their realm Iran. The Achaemenid empire called itself Xšāčā (Khshāchā) which simply means the empire, in those days Iran was a people and a civilization not yet a state. The first dynasty that created the Iranian nation state was the Sassanid empire. They called their land Ērānšahr, they had an state religion and language which was middle Persian. Meanwhile under the Achaemenid and Arsacid dynasties Persian or Parthian weren't even the official language, they were the court and royal language, the official language of both empires were Aramaic. So we can say that the Iranian race is about seven to five thousand years old or maybe older, the Iranian civilization, ethnicity and languages is three thousand years old and the Iranian nation is about 1700 years old. However, after the fall of the Sassanids Iran was divided or occupied for 850 years the Iranian national identity survived but it was dorment until it was brought back with Shiaism added to it when Safavids created their state which unlike the myriad of states in the 850 years called itself Iran similar to Sassanids. So we can say that the modern state of Iran is about 500 years old.

That's the most cope answer I know from debating with Persian Iranians. Azeris are ethnic Turks and the emperors of your Safavid dynasty and later on actually spoke Turkish as their mother tongue. Even diplomatic correspondence with Ottomans was done in medieval Turkish. And that's been the last 1000 years. So, no, your civ just ctrl c+v'd Elamites, rolled with it for another 1000 years and then were later on ruled by others, by Greeks, Arabs and of course even since by Turks. As a Turk I never cease to be amazed of how much Turkish TV shows are watches in Iran and how good the language is spoken over there. I hope, soon your country can be free and Azerbaijan can finally reunite.

As an Afghan lived in Iran most my life, I see them strong when united. We read books after books on the rich history of Iran and one thing I learn is that when it comes to defending their country, Iranians unit and are ready to give their life's. But sadly the people have become westernised, instead of having their own identity, they want to be like the westerner. Iranian people should fight for their freedom, like their past they should continue to stay unit and try to make Iran the power hub of Middle East.

as an Iranian who lives in Iran, I must say your information was so true. But the thing is our current government isolated our people, making global economy so difficult for ordinary people but themselves. they can easily import industrial goods and sell them at any price they want, which is very expensive considering average salary of Iranians, but makes the government more and more powerful each day, which is not beneficial for us. Islamic Republic (Islamic Dictatorship to be honest) was faced with so many protests back in the 70's, but they were able to win over. now in 2020's, they face a much more difficult situation, as they're not likely to change their policies because they're bound to their Islamic ideology, but the majority of population, especially the youth, don't believe in any religion and demand a democratic, secular government.

Your analysis of Iran's future heavily relies on a continuation of the current government. It doesn't even entertain the possibility that it could see a revolution and switch back to a Western aligned nation. In that situation Iran could rapidly claim a seat amongst the great powers of the world. It would become the West's most important ally in the Middle East, it would have a booming economy and would spend far less resources intervening in military disputes in it's neighbors. The revolutionary government is one of the most mismanaged in the world, far worse than either China or Russia, having completely run out of reasons for its population to support it. Crack downs will become increasingly ineffective as more people can not buy bread. Security forces will become increasingly disloyal as they are forced to harm friends and family and the regime has nothing to offer anyone anymore. They need a carrot alongside the stick but all they have is the stick at this point. Even if these protests don't overthrow this government, which they absolutely could, the protests that do are coming soon

The theocratic regime will not be toppled internally unless the basij and revolutionary guard power structure, whose existential fate is tied to that of the regime, is removed. The way I see it, even Myanmar's junta has a greater chance of being toppled as compared to Iran's regime, due to the alliance of ethnic armies and majority Bamar rebels. At least there's some form of military resistance. The protesters will have a good chance only if the conventional Iranian Armed Forces (Artesh) side with the common people, but the ensuing civil war will be long, catastrophic, and bloody.

As the situation gets worse and more and more basji and RG forces are isolated turning on the regime will become more enticing. Security forces and clergy are the only two power bases that the regime has backing left backing them. They have lost the rural poor, the urban working class, the intelligentsia, the bazaaris are neutral with low ranking bazaaris joining the protests, they have lost the middle class, what little remains of the landed class are still Shahists. If they lose either of the two that are backing them they will fall and every day these protests drag on the chance that one of these power bases switches sides gets higher

Some that refuse are getting ridiculed by their very friends. It's clear to me that Iranians may not be able to even afford eggs very soon. Extreme poverty will bring with itself change, good or bad I can't predict. It's really hard to have a rational conversation with khomeinists, they always avoid answering or bring unrelated topics to distract you. Bro, I've fallen in to your algorithm and it's because I've always found Middle Eastern countries. Fascinating. Not so much due to any specific reason, but as a kid I was pushed into the Bible and church and god and religion and as a psych major I've always found people's actions and mental states when it comes to religion is sometimes the same. As let's say January 6s there is a radicalization that happens when someone's telling you what you want to hear. Not necessarily. What is the truth?

Nice video. I hope you will make one about Italy some day. Personally I have no sympathy for the Iranian government, and I find sad and disappointing that a country of such ancient and noble civilization is ruled so badly. Despite this, in politics one should never create empty spots without knowing how to fill them. I think that the government of Iran should reform itself, abolishing its most backward and unpopular policies, and follow the example of China towards modernization. Iran could become a democracy, but it could also end in a civil war like Syria. This is a dangerous moment. The future scenario you prospected is quite realistic. Historically for the last two thousand years the Middle East was divided between two empires. One was based in Iran (Sasanians, Seljuks, Safavids...) and the other in Anatolia (Eastern Rome and later the Ottomans). Between them there was a network of client states, like Armenia, Georgia or the Ghassanid and Lakhmid kingdoms of Arabia, fluctuating between the orbits of the two empires. I think it is very likely that future developments will mirror this ancient scheme.

@@ShubhamMishrabro this is what I said: the example of China. It seems to me too the most likely option. If the mullahs want to remain in charge they will have to change something. At the end they could end up earning from this too.

But normally pretty much all revolutions or wars in the mountain fort settled quite nicer than others. The syria situation had outer influence which I don't think it'll ever happen to Iran, most of the people rather be democratic and... I don't think Europe and USA wouldn't want another rich oily ally that actually thinks like them.
@alessandrodelogu7931
@alessandrodelogu7931 2 жыл бұрын
@@ariamh823 I don't think that this is a concern, because nobody thinks like us. I don't expect Iranians to overthrow the mullahs and suddenly become Westerners. The only Western-like country in the region is Israel, and even they are very different from us due to their peculiar situation. I don't know much about revolutions in mountainous countries, but it's a fact that the most famous revolutions happened in plain ones, see France and Russia.

While other countries are figuring out measures to secure their future, Afg still has the task of building the proper concept of the nation itself. Hate to say this but it is just a region at the moment up for grabs for many influencers.
