11:22 So you’re the bad guy now if you refuse to let people kill you, take your property and or harm your loved ones? To my knowledge just like Indiana Jones, Nathan Drake only kills people who are trying to kill him. It doesn’t matter if it’s one or one-hundred people. Is there some point where you would just let one of a hundred people trying to murder you, do so because you feel sorry about killing all the rest? Buddy you must have a really warped morality system if you’re trying to guilt, shame and make someone feel in the wrong for doing nothing more than defending their life and livelihood.
@deschain19102 жыл бұрын
Re: Nathan Drake actually being bad. I never really buy this idea when it's presented in most stories, and I don't buy it here in Uncharted either. The difference is that the bad guys are pretty much always trying to kill the protagonist first. Nathan, and most protagonists that are accused of this, are only ever killing people who are trying (or would obviously start trying if given the chance) to kill them. If they were simply in some kind of non-lethal race against the bad guy to get the artifact, they wouldn't be killing anybody. The bad guy is always the cause/catalyst of the killing, even the killing that the protagonist does in self defense. It's like in a movie with cliche writing where the good guy is told not to kill the bad guy because "then we'll just be the same as them," and this almost always rings completely hollow. Killing someone who's trying to kill you for no good reason is not the moral equivalent of what the bad guy is doing in killing people for no good reason.

@bigskypioneer18982 жыл бұрын
100% agree with this comment. Defending yourself is not murder. Even according to the law. If you are cleared of killing someone because it was self defense - there is no murder trial. Luke really grated on my nerves by calling Drake a "mass murderer" in his Uncharted 4 review. I like the Uncharted stories, but not the gameplay - so I don't play the games. Instead I watch others play through - simple, everyone wins. That said, I certainly don't run around saying that the protagonist groups in games like this are "murdering" people. It's a game Luke.... I think for most of us, suspension of belief is a "given" when we pick up our controller or mouse/keyboard. There is no such thing as a "realistic" game - no matter how well real life is simulated - it is still a game with prescribed coding and outcomes, therefore not realistic. Sometimes I think Luke says irritating or "edgy" things that he [perhaps] actually doesn't believe to get his comments section stirred up. The more activity for a KZbin video (comments, likes & dislikes) - the higher it sits in the algorithm. Even though this is a fundraiser - it is also advertisement for his channel - which does have videos that he _does_ get compensated for. To be clear I don't begrudge him his living - I get it - and I know from the quality of his videos that he works hard. But all KZbin content creators that have been around and have established channels follow one of two playbooks to get their videos noticed: the one that has the contrarian hot take and the one that says what their audience wants to hear.

You present a lot of convincing arguments for many of the games shortcomings. But when you constantly complain about the shooting galleries, it’s obvious that you are highly subjective and do not enjoy the majority of them, and that’s totally fine. But if you would compare these sections to the gameplay of Pokémon games, I’m not to sure you would say “ah wow, here is another Pokémon battle, how original”. These arcade shooting galleries are a core part of the Uncharted series, as Pokémon battles are to the Pokémon series, and whether you enjoy them or not, you shouldn’t be so surprised that they are reoccurring game after game. That’s really the only part that baffles me because you are usually very objective and thoughtful in your criticism.

I think the reason why the gun system is the way it is is because of the point you bright up so many times - the game is meant to feel like a movie. The HUD is as minimal as possible, even crucial information like your health is communicated only through visual effects. Having upgradable guns might be more fun and rewarding for explorers but it would probably also take players out of the whole interactive movie vibes they want to achieve. I’m usually not the biggest fan of disposable weapons either but I actually think it works here and goes with uncharteds overall more lighthearted narrative. You’re not meant to feel pressured and tense and deal with resource management like in the last of us, they just want you to have fun with the shootouts and not worry about ammo consumption or how strong your weapons are.

Yeah, nadine clearly could beat everyone who don't have reflex like nathan drake, and do you all not notice every time uncharted 4 has boss fight, the camera angle become the camera angle of the last of us and nathan drake cannot dodge. They literally made nathan drake who is nimble become slow like joel, see the development of the last of us in the Wikipedia to understand what I meant. Just compare them, uncharted 4 nathan movements is slower than 1 to 3. Speed still beat skill, when you still has reflex, you can dodge opponent attack regardless how trained they are, you could stay out of their attacks and when they miss you especially with their kick attack you could use the moment to close in and attack body or head. My point is nathan was nerfed so much to be slower like joel and story was made that nathan was not active for years because neil druckmann who is the writer of uncharted 4 which did the last of us had made nathan drake into slow brawler like joel and uncharted was made into become more like the last of us taste which is a story about despaired people strugglling, btw neil druckmann scrapped amy hennig original uncharted 4 script in which nadine ross never existed

Getting offended by having something you claim isn't even your belief questioned is the only thing that would need a "grip" to be acquired I'm afraid.
@Ace-dv5ce2 жыл бұрын
@@mydogeatspuke Well That isn’t necessarily true, circumstances differ a lot and the examples you can name who are masters of one probably all have in common the circumstances in which being a master of one would lead to better success. Such as specializing in a medicinal field as you mentioned than a jack of all trades. Put them in other situations or lives and the lack of versatility and adaptability wouldn’t attribute to as much and it would sure be better to be a jack of all trades than to not be in those circumstances. The philosophy about it goes kind of like this: Would you excel in one area and thrive in that but be put in a situation where you fail miserably in another area or would you succeed moderately in both those areas? Pick your poison essentially. Get my point? It’s a highly situational viewpoint but in its core it would probably be better to be a jack of all trades. So you have to realize firstly that none is better than the other cause of this fact, but one can be better if certain circumstances favor one or the other. And unless I misunderstand the term wrongfully being a jack of all trades is being above average at many things, not average at many things. Besides that I think what you should strive for is being both. A jack of all trades and a master of one, this can be manageable because you have one speciality not more than one but one that is your best attribute, but you know many things about other subjects aswell so it makes you versatile while also excelling in one specific thing.

People who critique art like this need to first make an attempt, at the very least, to understand what the creator(s) was trying to accomplish. Every story isn’t going to be ground breaking or incredible or game changing. Because not every story is aiming to do that. These games were made for fun. And for the most part they succeeded. When they wanted to tell a ground breaking story, they did that and succeeded also. And that goes for creators everywhere. Not just ND.

To me you're downplaying the story of these games a lot. They appeal to people that grew up with Indiana Jones and out of every Indy "clone", in every media, Uncharted is by far the one that understands it the most. The cheesiness, the cliché villains, the comedy, the "supernatural" stuff, the predictable plot twists (and also the unpredictable ones) and most importantly, the characters are by far what carries this franchise. A dude getting shot and being saved by a book is the most Indiana Jones thing ever... and it's awesome. Seems to me you're expecting "The Godfather" levels of moral consequences and seriousness for something that is clearly just trying to be "Fast and Furious". It's not the point at all. It's like complaining that in Pokemon you're beating the hell out of animals just for sport, it is a true affirmative but at the same time, it's overanalyzing because they expect you to understand the context and the tone of the game. The tone of Uncharted will never be the same as Spec Ops The Line or Witcher 3, because it's supposed to be a fun, kind of comedic treasure hunting adventure protagonized by a Marty Stu.

It was 1000% the spiders that caused the mysterious decomposed corpse. This is confirmed later on in the cutscene in the caves where Talbot's man gets overtaken by them. After the scene, you can walk over to the guy's body and see that he is also decomposed.

I agree with some of the comments that although I totally understand that there’s typically more to talk about for things you dislike, it would be nice to hear more about what he likes too. I was genuinely surprised when he randomly said he liked one of these games because I kinda assumed he hated all of them. What I don’t understand is people criticizing him not being objective. He never said this was going to be a completely objective review, and when it comes to all games/movies/tv shows/books, it’s impossible to be objective. You might like something he hated. Just because he disliked it doesn’t make it bad if you enjoyed it, but it’s his video lol. He’s obviously going to discuss things from his perspective.

2:01:48 the building still has talbots men because you clearly don’t see the cutscenes since everything ur critiquing about it’s explained in the cutscenes just like this one They are still there since talbot ordered his men to light the place on fire and stay inside with drake and make sure he doesn’t escape 2:05:07 again Chloe’s phone being broken is an excuse since they’re fighting and they’re phone could’ve been broken it’s not just a DUMB excuse same goes with cutters case , since cutter has a sense of humour because of all of his jokes till now it’s a funny excuse but still a excuse and it’s actually a fun type of twist the game has by building the suspense and then just oh ur al right and then they just throw in a joke, it’s actually pretty well and it makes quite much of sense. 2:13:34 , 2:19:23, 2:20:55 2:28:05 2:31:20 These time stamps I put I seriously do not have time to correct this man on what he is saying in these whole video but when I got to criticism of uncharted 3 I just COULDNT hold it anymore and I had to write and correct him and these time stamps whatever he is saying is wrong in them Any person who has played the whole uncharted series and has seen every cutscene and everything would know that he is wrong! 2:47:21 2:48:46 2:53:16 This set piece was not a waste of time in fact almost all the people who played uncharted 3 loved the ship sequence and it was the most memorable and their most favourite part of the game . So only you think that this ship sequence was hard and not thought through when it actually was and nit to mention that you said that the ship sequence was the worst naughty dog had ever done and there are many people to disagree with you since many people thought that when they think of uncharted 3 they think of the amazing ship sequence and it wasn’t glitchy at all trust me I have a ps3 and I have played the 3 games on it THE ORIGINAL and I have played it many times and there was no glitch whatsoever at all! And the fact that you literally just spoke that after Amy henning left the uncharted games we’re better You said that indirectly but u did say that and that’s just rude! 2:57:31 and this uff a lot of reviewer or critiques say this like I mean ALL of them and it’s just not true I mean it’s like they are not even paying attention to what’s happening in the game and just say stuff but CLEARLY it’s told in the cutsence or gameplay dialogue. Even in the clip that you played Nate went over to the crashed cargo plane to ‘look for supplies’ as he states in the game and when he goes there it’s all on fire so he doesn’t bother to check and grabs a gun I MEAN YOU EVEN SHOWED THE CLIP OF IT AND THEN YOUR LIKE HE DIDNT EVEN BOTHER TO CHECK FOR SUPPLIES I MEAN JUST LISTEN OR SEE THE GAMEPLAY DIALOGUE IF YOU CANT LISTEN READ THE SUBTITLES BEFORE POINTING A MISTAKE OUT!!!

I am really unimpressed that you haven't improved your critiquing skills, I got to the part where you talk about Nathan jumping out of the plane with Elena being "irrational", you suggest he should go for reinforcements or something several problems with this: 1st off, the plane is literally going down, staying in it would literally be the opposite of rationale, its suicide, jumping out is the only means of survival 2nd, what reinforcements? the game never even suggests that he has any powerful allies which means he'd have to have hired guns, which would take an absurd amount of money...if he had that kinda money its doubtful he'd be searching for riches in the first place as he's not in it for collecting or power two seconds of revising this script could stop mistakes like this from you but you continue uploading content that's poorly thought out and not very well researched I am not posting this to hate I am genuinely trying to impart feedback, it makes no sense to me that you continue to do things like this across your content, its an 8 hour video, you were not concerned with making things concise so at the very least I expected explanations to your criticisms

Lazarevic doing good with the power of the stone, that's a good one lol. Drake kills in self defense, not once has he ever taken the chance to kill an enemy in cold blood when they were unarmed or already defeated. He even told Sully in the Borneo mission of U2 that Lazarevic's 2 scouts were unarmed and thus they should handle them both without the use of guns. Naughty Dog also wanted an upbeat mood for the Uncharted series, they didn't want anything too dark or that took itself too seriously. The great light humor and great personalities from many of the uncharted characters is a big part of what made this franchise so special.

Usually your commentary is thoughtful but all through this you negated when these games came out and what was out comparatively. People loved these games because at the time it was the best way to experience this kind of gameplay. These things you complain about are the foundation for things that progressively get better. The combat in TLOU is so good because it builds on uncharted 3

I find it fascinating that i can view the works of Matthewmatosis critiques on games such as God Of War or watch 2:30:00 long Metal Gear Solid videos yet i struggle to keep interest in this. All of this sounds like nitpicking that doesn't matter at all in the slightest, only to nitpicking enjoyers and i enjoyed a fair bit of nitpicking myself. When the N. Sane trilogy came out criticism was instantly shut down and you were called a nitpicker till fans (hopefully) realised how stupid they were, (still are) nitpicking is the job of an artist and it made sense when people like B-Mask pointed out N. Sane's flaws Point is i don't see any point in these reviews, just filler stuff going in and out of my ears, there are a few instances like when discussing Talbot for example but everything else meh. Nothing noticeable or worth pointing out in these games just suspend your disbelief and have fun, they're just dumb fun after all. They're not deep psychological case studies of human nature or whatever, what I'm trying to say is you're looking too far down the rabbit whole for things to point out which just proves how great the games are, (maybe not 1 but) in 2/4's case masterful. I appreciate the level of dedication and work you put out here amongst all the garbage on this site, these reviews just felt like padding, pointing out stuff for the sake of it when the point is to just have fun, like with every other action game or film. These games just happened to be iconic because of how well made certain aspects are like the train or plane sequence on top of having fun gameplay (except 1 again) and being well paced with their action, combat, character interaction etcetc

At the end of the video you say they put troy baker in everything they do because then he doesn't go off and do other things. I watched the uncharted 4 and lost legacy parts of this video, and good job on it man, but that's just ridiculous right? The idea that they just put him in everything so he doesn't leave them, that's just absurd. He's done a bunch of voice work in the 10s besides from Joel and Sam, that was just weird and doesn't make sense at all. They pay him because he's good at what he does and they like working with him. They obviously didn't plan on Nate having a brother in the original trilogy, but that doesn't mean that it's weird that Sam is in 4 or LL. These are silly action games and you cant take the story details too seriously, they are all riddled with plot holes and that's fine. Also as side note i feel like you talk incredibly slow and go way too deep sometimes about tiny things that doesn't matter. These videos do not need to be this long. This one for example could be half as long if you just talked a little faster and cut out the fluff. Sorry to be a little negative, i do enjoy your videos!

I’ve watched many critical videos about the uncharted series and every one of them brings up drake killing so many people in every game. But none of those videos including this one talk about the fact that the people drake kills in all of the games are mercenaries and/or pirates that in the beginning of each game are established to attempt to kill drake and his allies on sight. This is shown in every encounter of the games as they attack as soon as they see drake. Even when they take drake hostage/prisoner the antagonists right out say or heavily imply that they will kill drake once he is of no use

I never understood the reason behind taking what happens during gameplay so seriously and concluding that Nate is a bad person because of the npcs he kills. I mean like, if you already take it that literally then wouldn’t you also need to consider how Nate is even able to kill entire armys of people? Do you also conclude that he has to have multiple lives for every time he dies during gameplay? Or why does no one ask how he can take all those gunshots that never need to be treated and just heal magically? It seems unnecessary to me considering how the game simply couldn’t exists if there wasn’t anything to shoot at. I know the "it’s just a game" excuse isn’t great but I feel like it works here. There’s a scene in uncharted 4 where Rafe says that Nate and Sam "don’t kill anybody in cold blood" which many found ridiculous but it might be naughty dogs attempt at indicating that Nates npc kills aren’t actually canon. And even if you absolutely want to take gameplay at face value one could still argue that Nate is just acting in self defense since the enemies are all completely hostile and will attempt to kill him as soon as they get the chance.
@dfchang8132 жыл бұрын
I find the whole concept of ludonarrative dissonance silly for that reason. Of course you have to ignore it it’s literally a video game! But I still get a silly rise every time Luke casually drops the fact that Nate is actually a sadistic psychopathic mass murderer because I find his delivery utterly hilarious.
@thorthewolf88012 жыл бұрын
A good game will tailor its story to adjust for the things you did in the gameplay section. Gameplay and story are connected. What you do in the gameplay affects the story. Were you collecting tyres for a car in the gameplay section, but in the cutscene they make a rocket launcher from them? If we followed your logic there wouldnt be a conflict between these things, but clearly there is. Its lazy to game dezign. Make your game better.
@yinyin87692 жыл бұрын
@@thorthewolf8801 I never said that gameplay and cutscenes aren’t connected, I simply said that it’s part of the nature of Video Games to suspend your disbelief a bit during gameplay sections. We don’t question how Nate can die and respawn, how there always painted ledges for him to climb on, why there are all those collectible treasures scattered throughout the world, and so on. We just accept those things as parts of the medium because most games wouldn’t work without those aspects, which is why I don’t understand why so many people can’t do the same for npc kills and pretend that it’s some kind of moral dilemma. You can disagree with me but I think it’s pretty silly to say that a game is inherently bad if they don’t come up with a solution for this whole thing🤷
@thorthewolf88012 жыл бұрын
@@yinyin8769 And I didnt say you said that they werent connected. Yes, its a video game, but its just reeks of laziness of a video game, and that is by definition bad. They werent forced to make a game that has conflicting gameplay and story, they could have just made a game that is consistent.

funny enough the flashbacks, the “normal life” scenes, and the flash forward in the end, are my favorite parts of the game. i just really love non linear and slow story telling in games, is maximum’s entertainment with minimal effort. i find myself getting worn out and taking breaks in the game so the slow action and cut sean’s are a way to get that break without leaving the world of the game.
