Remember seeing Smith for the first time at The Oval during the 2013 Ashes. The crowd were constantly making fun of him whenever he was fielding on the boundary, despite him having made an unbeaten century. Pretty sure that doesn't happen anymore.

Every time I hear Steve Smith speak I like him more. It makes his involvement in the ball tampering scandal all the more perplexing. A genuine batting great however. Was deeply impressed with his brave determination to go out and face Archer after getting a very nasty blow to his arm.

He has great awareness of where his off stump is. I remember he won a great appeal against an lbw in the ashes last summer. One of the main reasons he's so hard to get out. Then he just builds runs. Amazing player.

An absolute legendary batsmen, I would just watch Australia test matches to watch him bat. I think his batting antics make it more exciting to watch him. If he can maintain a 60+ average till he retires then he would have easily been the best test batsmen of this era.

What's important to understand about Smith's technique is that just because it's not 'pretty' or 'textbook' doesn't mean it's not effective. Standing open allows him to play straight, with balance and leave the ball well. A fantastic batsman

If he finishes with the weight of runs behind him (>12000) and that 60+ average then there's a good change that he will go down as one of the greatest batsman of all time. Commentators these days are so willing to throw around comparisons to the greats of the past but he really does justify alot of his acclaim. Even as an Englishman, I want to see him go down as a legend so that in decades I can say that I watched him bat.
