The name 'Subbuteo' comes from the latin name of the Eurasian hobby, a small bird of prey, because the manufacturers wanted to call it 'hobby football' but weren't allowed due to trademark problems.

Love it! Kevin's too good for everyone but it's ok because he's in love with himself! Subbuteo table football (soccer) was the Playstation for my generation and mainly used when it was too wet to play outside. University Challenge is a TV gameshow for the academic elite but popular with ordinary folk like me who celebrate when we get one question correct! Cheers.

Listen out for the funny lyric "He always beat me at Subbuteo because he flicked the kick, but I didnt know" which refers to the Subbuteo soccer game technique as seen in the video, the band members are playing the game, its a soccer game with small model players on rounded plastic bases. If you flick the kick with your thumb and forefinger you can make the plastic players swerve the small plastic ball and shoot it at the goals at a higher speed.

Subbuteo was invented by a person called Peter Adolph. He wanted to call it the Hobby but the makers wouldn't let him so he called it Subbuteo which is latin for Hobby 🤣 I was in a band called Subbuteo Pitch invasion. Peter's son David once gave us a Shout out on a Newcastle Radio show. As a ex-Subbuteo Player I was well chuffed.

Cynthia, my sympathy. I have a ''perfect'' cousin that's much younger than me. She was a Countdown kid, very popular with the family and only just last year, I found out she's good friends with our Countdown sisters (Live It Up and Countdown kid) and has been for over forty years. Thankfully this ''perfect'' cousin is 10 years younger than me so its never really mattered.

It's a great song because it's so relatable. It's not about jealousy, it's about injustice and snobbery, that kid with the impenetrable self-confidence who thinks they are better than you and wants you to know it. There seemed to be an endless series of "Kevins" when I was growing up, and consequently a lot of fights. Kevins still exist, sliming their way up the corporate ladder, and they are every bit as toxic.

I must admit it was a fundamentally unsatisfactory game because there was very little margin for error. And it was hugely expensive by the standards of the day and not the kind of thing you could leave lying around, so I'm sure my parents were wiser than I was when it came to spending their money.
