I like how gigi symbolizes Odysseus' becoming the monster from Just a Man to Monster. You also see Odysseus wearing Polites headband throughout the other songs and other animatics, in underworld he shows him wearing the headband to Polites ghost. In Monster when he decides he will fully become a monster, the vision of Penelope tears away the headband. The piece of Polites and his kindness is gone. Chef's kiss gigi.

You shouldn't think of the lyrics of No Longer You _literally_. When the prophet says "I see a man who gets to make it home alive, but it's no longer you" he meant that Ody will make it home, but he won't be the same.
@Ripper_188886 ай бұрын
Not so fun fact: apparently, the souls from "The Underworld" can't actually see Odysseus and his crew. They are simply repeating the same thoughts they had when they died, over and over again. Meaning the 500+ souls were calling out for their captain in anguish, Polites was still thinking of optimism and peace, and his mother was thinking of her son. It messed me up a bit when I learned that 🙃 I've also heard that they keep repeating those thoughts because they didn’t receive a proper burial, so they're stuck like that.

Ok, a fun fact to balance out against this not-so-fun fact: The reason the number of men that Posideon killed and the number of men that sing out in "Underworld" don't match is because, in the original work, one dude gets drunk and falls off the roof of Circe's palace.

8:52 thing about greek prophecies is they're often so full of riddles that you don't even realize what they're about usually until it's happening right at that moment. The prophet's making it sound like he's going to die but by "no longer you" he means that odysseus' old self dies the more his journey progresses. He will come back home to his wife, the "man with a trail of bodies" is odysseus himself, but odysseus at this point in time is still trying to retain some semblance of positivity & denies that all the sacrifices & pain were possibly for nothing & everyone he knows will die under his command, so he doesn't recognize that altho on a positive note the prophet IS telling him he'll get home, he's also warning him that he will become a changed man that he will no longer recognize, hence "no longer you"
@Animefan246 ай бұрын
The prophet says no longer you to Odysseus because it is him that goes home but he is no longer himself. That figure is king Odysseus in one of Jorge's videos he says that Odysseus is the final boss

Even after dying for him, Polites believed that being good was the right course... And even after dying for him, Odysseus can't listen to him.
@islasullivan34636 ай бұрын
I mean he did listen to him though, that’s why he spares the cyclops and why he immediately tries his luck with the wind god, and doesn’t kill Circe. He was basically trying to follow Polites’s advice and it still ended up pretty bad for them, though definitely worse bc of Odysseys mistakes and hubris, only turning out good with Circe.
@Sparten7F46 ай бұрын
@@islasullivan3463 He is literally reminded of Polites advice while taking advantage of a success that came from it and then comes Monster.
@islasullivan34636 ай бұрын
Yes but he’s also reminded of how if he had just killed the cyclops that most of his crew would not have died (although they probably wouldn’t have died if he hadn’t revealed his name as well but he was thinking more the whole ruthlessness is mercy)
@Sparten7F46 ай бұрын
@@islasullivan3463 They could have just left. Even the Cyclops isn't going to rush a FLEET of soldiers. Odysseus attacked instead, when flight was possible. Or, you know, a repeated mistake he makes - NOT apologizing and instead excusing his actions and trying to make deals.
@islasullivan34636 ай бұрын
It’s implied by the song that fleeing was just going to get them killed and it’s implied that Odysseys was just trying to distract him until the lotus took effect. And yes a mistake he makes repeatedly is not apologizing, but he doesn’t see that yet and instead attributes it to him trying to alleviate his own guilt for the infant and following Polites motto.

The way I see it, the No longer You is basically Odysseus’ fortune. Telling him he sees a man with all these things but it’s no longer you, meaning Odysseus changes. He’s no longer the same man since he thought it was the best option to become the monster he was trying so hard not to become.

Yay! You’re all caught up! The good news is if the saga release schedule keeps the same pattern the next saga should hopefully come out sometime this month! When the saga gets released Jorge will do a livestream with lyrics and animatics he had made. If you can I recommend reacting to that. Another reactor reacted to the Underworld Saga livestream when it released. Anyway, great video!!

Considering how recently the last saga was released, I find it unlikely that act 2 will release this month. Jorge seems to like to release the sagas on special days, so I think it’s pretty likely that it will release on a summer holiday. When it gets close to releasing Jorge will most likely post a few videos about it, so I recommend checking out his account for epic news. I missed the last livestream, but I’ve heard that the livestreams are really cool and I’m excited for the next one! Great reaction, I’ve been looking for more epic content to feed the ADHD gremlin inside my brain and this was really great

We had to wait about a whole year between the Cyclops and Ocean Sagas (though I believe it was for some legal problems), so sadly I doubt that the inter-actual break would be so short. And that's possibly a good thing, because such cliffhangers, suspense, and anticipation make the experience even better when the next saga gets released, and the hype for it grows as well hah

There are two ways the stories explain Anticlea's death (Odysseus's mom) one was suicide, and the other was sheer grief. Both are tragic, but thats to be expected in a story like The Odyssey.

New to your channel and I adore your approach! Definitely staying for more, and so glad you're having fun with Epic! I love that Jorge went for making the Underworld in the place that torments you with... memory. It's incredibly touching. Oh, also. The part with Odysseus' mother ALWAYS breaks my heart. To my knowledge, letting your child go on a sea voyage was probably the worst thing for a mother to witness in Ancient Greece (and probably some modern families too) because if they die, you can't even properly bury them, meaning, their soul can't find proper rest. And, well, the seas were such a dangerous place; his mom was probably eaten up by worry until her last day. It's heartbreaking.

Finishing Act 1 strong with the best saga in my opinion. I have cried so much listening to it. Also to clarify, in "No longer you" the man singing is Tiresias "the prophet". He is blind and can see past and future, the part that looks like a dream is the artist's interpretation of his power but they are actually prophecies of Odysseus' life.

I was waiting for your reaction to these since Open Arms. You have caught up and like a lot of people have been saying Jay's mom was in fact singing as Odysseus's mom. Edit: Also for The Underworld song, it doesn't really show this but the souls don't actually see any of them and they are just saying what was last thought going through their mind.

Fun fact: nobody really knows what the loud chanting behind the prophet is actually saying. Apparently someone came close and one of their 4 options was confirmed correct (I haven't personally seen the clip of their options yet). Potential Spoiler but I don't think it is since its just a theory!; But as Oddy falls off the cliff, it sounds to me- just in that section- it's saying Oddysseus! Which is kinda interesting because the same thing happened when the Cyclops was introduced as the threat and when Posiden was introduced as the threat. I think it didn't happen with Circe because she was only KINDA a villian undid her wrongs. If I'm correct and it's chanting the name (Oddy *pause* se US.) oddysseus as he falls, it could symbol him changing into a monster as every other name that has been chanted has been of a threat. Alot of the fandom thinks the rest of the chanting is 'king of blood' but I hear a 't' sound in there and I doubt its the prophets name or Mr jalapeño wouldn't be keeping it a secret XD I also like how in the horse and infant Oddy asks "WHEN does a man become a monster" not IF, as if its destined to happen at some point. Throughout act one, he's been the "man" but now, he switching to the monster which he was afraid to be in the first song. He's no longer feeling GUILTY about his actions- his negotiations are over. So in act two, I predict we'll see a much different Oddy- one that isn't as forgiving.
