The reason why you manually must choose 3OA when using headphones, is because the Auto algorithm works at many levels (beyond 'how many channels are passing through') I based that specific decision in a research paper I read (I think it was Gerzon, but don't remember), it stated that "the amount of speakers to which you decode can be equal or less to the amount of channels of the order", meaning that for stereo, 1OA should suffice and a higher order might actually not help, but in the contrary, you could miss some info. Of course, the above is for decoding a static signal - nowadays, when we can rotate these signals, I have been thinking about how to approach the "Auto" algorithm, but for the time being, assuming that most stereo users simply decode and rotate once, that 'tick' stays in the algorithm, and only advanced users (like you), get to select the manual decoding... I'd appreciate any feedback in case there's an overwhelming amount of people that want "auto" to be a literal "auto" :)

Thanks for the clarification! I felt I needed to point that out because I had tricked myself a couple of times. I actually had to film this video twice because I had it on auto the first time and then wondered why changing the 3rd order channels did not do anything. 😂

This is my go-to equalizer plugin. I love it. However, I see some bugs using it with Nuendo sometimes. Hopefully they will be better with more updates.

Coming back to this again after a comment about the quality of the TB Compressor 4 on the Discord channel. Just venturing into an experiment with it in the same mode. But I'm not sure this technique is 'appropriate' for either ambisonics or mixing in space... in general? Haven't looked but I'm assuming the same Link functionality is available. Perhaps it's better used in a purely channel based context? Thanks again for these thought and experiment provoking videos!

You really need to adjust your thinking towards eq and it’s effects working in ambisonic mode, it really challenges channel/destination type of sound analysis greatly, it’s useful I believe but could be very destructive very quickly…

That is a valid argument, but it really depends what you are aiming for. Distortion, bit crushing, all things that can be destructive very quickly. Even regular mid-side processing can be destructive.
