My struggle is that I feel bad getting rid of books that were given to me as gifts. Even if I didn’t like it, I feel like I have to hang onto it because someone bought it for me.

My thought is always that the best part of a gift is simply that someone thought of you and wanted to give you something. The book isn’t doing anything for anyone when it just sits on my shelf. I know that if I gifted someone a book I would love for them to pass it on or donate it so others could enjoy it. Remember that the person thought of you and spread the joy to others :)

Aw, sad to see Good Omens is DNF. I like that book a lot. My battered copy is autographed by Sir Terry Pratchett himself. I keep trying to find out a way to get Neil Gaiman to autograph it too. I listened to Norse Mythology and loved it because Gaiman read it himself. I don't think I would like it nearly as much if I read it to myself. Same goes for Garrison Keillor and David Sedaris books. They both have such great delivery when they speak, but it just doesn't come across the same when I read them. The worst thing about being a book lover is hanging on to books I loved and planned to reread and books I wanted to read a long time ago and never did. My taste in books has changed and I'm more critical about books now--at the age of 69, I'm realizing I will never get around to reading most of them. And that doesn't even include the 16 boxes of books I gave away. I unearthed my Mary Stewart King Arthur/Merlin trilogy to reread because I loved them so much 40+ years ago and was saddened to find the charm they once had for me had slipped away.

I feels that way, too. I am enjoying Red Rising and I want to get the sequels. I can't believe that Merphy is getting rid of it after she has bragged that it got better throughout the series. I got the book after she posted that video. Now she want to get rid of it?!!! 😨😢 I don't care, I'm planning to get the series, because I'm enjoying it.

This was super easy for me. I only have one bookshelf and it filled up last year. Well, I really liked the Sword of Truth series when I was just starting to get back into reading like 15ish years ago (and even then, I still thought a few of the books were pretty bad). Then I read LotR, WoT, and the other huge fantasy books/series and realized just how awful Sword of Truth actually is in comparison. So as I get new books, SoT goes into a box to get donated some day.

Same! SoT was my first "adult" fantasy series and now after reading so many better ones they only stay on my shelf because most of them were gifts from my sister who got me into the series
