My dad came home with this game on a random night, not even close to a holiday or birthday. My younger brother and I played the shit out of this game for years to come. I remember playing through the opening segments with my dad, and all I wanted to do the entire game was get Spiderman to be as powerful as he is in the opening. (which you actually can do by the 3rd act of the game, very good game design in hindsight) As a kid I just liked being able to explore New York City, and of course be evil and throw cars as Black Suit Spidey. It was also the first game I played where the Evil option actually felt cool, and had some merit in the story of Peter struggling to stay a hero, or embrace the symbiote to be a villain. What young boy doesn't want to rule New York as a symbiote king with Black Cat as your Goth GF

THIS is the game Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 wishes it was. The combat is so insanely good, like you can literally switch between the black and red suits mid-combo and create insane variations of each suits combos. Compare this to Spider-Man 2 where they only let you have the black suit for like 3 hours and the moveset is the same as the red suit except for the addition of a “rage mode”
