The Unholy follows Alice, a young hearing-impaired girl who, after a supposed visitation from the Virgin Mary, is inexplicably able to hear, speak and heal the sick. As word spreads and people from near and far flock to witness her miracles, a disgraced journalist (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) hoping to revive his career visits the small New England town to investigate. Saw this movie while cooking dinner for my dad and I nearly burned dinner. This movie was awesome., I could not stop watching it. The trailer could have been a minute shorter, but it does not spoil as much of the movie as it seems. It's actually lacking a lot of context which make the scenes better. It only really spoils as much as the title does. That being said I would have probably gone with a different title.

Most horror movies' symbolism is as subtle and deep as brick to the face, until now there's probably amount of Western movies can be counted with fingers of two hands which even goes as close as the first 3 Silent Hill games by the original Team Silent, even the "adapted" Silent Hill movies along with Western-developed Silent Hill games are as atrocious and failing to even understand the substance of the OG game trilogy One of said movies to rival OG trilogy SH games also includes Mandy (2018), but it's more of indie-produced Western movies and gets closer to thriller genre with surreal imagery than of conventional horror movie genre

I grew up Catholic and have been around it all my life, even to the point where I found myself praying incessantly to a small statue of Mary. I would even kiss it multiple times. And then one night I had a nightmare involving her. Mary was singing to me, at first pleasantly, but then it warped into something disturbing, and the whole "immaculate" facade began to unravel and she began to look scary to me. I can't quite explain it. All I know is that I was crying and screaming at her to stop singing, but she kept at it. She had this persistent smile and these droopy eyes that i'll never forget, and the more I begged her to stop, the louder she became.. After that nightmare, I stopped praying to the statue. I believe I was guilty of idol worship and temporarily lost the grace of God, allowing myself to become vulnerable to demonic attacks. But believe me when I tell you that Christian doctrine does NOT teach idol worship. Likewise, the Roman Catholic Church PROHIBITS idol worship. What happened to me was my fault, and probably the fault of my parents as well. My mother was especially far too into statues, pictures, and holy trinkets blessed by priests. But no priest would ever condone what I was doing. My familly was influenced by a Catholic "rosary group" of housewives that would get together weekly. They would come up with their own beliefs about things and focused heavily on paying homage to Mary. They would also gossip and tell lies about each other, as well as ostracize certain members. They eventually ostracized my own mother and she thankfully left the group. Now, many of the women were wonderful people, but there were just some very nefarious ring leaders who created a toxic and heretical environment. As far as I know the group has long since disbanded. Anyway, this is why its important for a church to have a hierarchy, and for the lay people to listen and follow the instructions of their priest, pastor, or bishop. Any doctrine of Christianity strictly prohibits idol worship. Creating separate entities outside the church or looking for alternative means of grace can be dangerous.

I apologize for the ambiguity of my initial statement: I believe fully that orthodox Christianity prohibits and abhors idol worship, but I believe it’s something that has permeated through the RCC fully. I don’t doubt there are faithful Christians there, but the actual church itself i do not believe teaches orthodoxy. My initial reaction to this in simpler terms I guess was “yeah, duh, of course worshipping Mary would bring about a demonic presence! It’s not of God!”

The same author's work has been adapted into films - The Survivor (plane crash survivor tries to remember what happened as ghosts start causing havoc), Deadly Eyes (killer rats eat people!), Fluke (a man who died in an accident returns to Earth reincarnated as a dog), Haunted (paranormal debunker investigates haunted house), and the BBC miniseries The Secret of Crickley Hall (family grieving over missing son move into haunted home with dark past).
