The Unimog series is the all-rounder. Outstanding off-road mobility due to its portal axles, four-wheel drive and differential locks at front and back, compact dimensions and last but not least its ability to provide power for a great variety of attached and mounted implements, make the Unimog range a league of its own.

I drove one many years ago, probarbly a404. Ex German army, petrol. It leaves land rover, etc standing on rough, wet, stonny, steep off road. Traction and ground clearance was spectacular.

Good video for explaining how the Unimog was started and Why. I foolishly assumed the Unimog was a truck, 4x4 vehicle. It is. But it was started as a tractor/truck combination machine for farming in Europe after WW2. Had no idea you could attach mowers and hydraulic bucket loaders to the Unimog. A unique and versatile machine.

I can see what you say. They failed to comment on its high center of gravity & performance while "transversing" a slope. This would give new meaning to true performance offroad. We don't all have the luxury of climbing a hill straight up or down. Manytimes offroad trails in the U.S. transverse diagonally up or down hill & cg is important to know. I gree with you.

Living in German right now and of course i can see Unimog almost daily but i knew this rough extra durable and extra reliable vehicle from Greece my homeland from fire department vehicles , they are just amazing and can go anywhere anything else cannot go ! Amazing machinery highly recommended for any off road activity , forestry , pretty much anything .

Around late 80's & early 90's @ National Steel Corporation ( NSC) Mindanao, Philippines Unimog 406 was a workhorse towing dolly trailers @ full load 60 tonnes. Dolly trailers designed ny my boss which have short pivot radius even with full trailer attachment.

The Allies put all kinds of restrictions on Germany after WWI as well as WWII. After WWI the Germans had restrictions on armed forces. They got around it by training in Russia and all recruits were trained as officers. Same with Unimog. It could not be built as a tank etc, so it was built as a farm vehicle. The Mauser factory was busted up, but rebuilt as H&K (Heckler und Koch), some of the original Mauser equipment was used.

10 yrs ago I worked as a setter,at the factory where the brake calipers for Unimog trucks,were made, the design didnt change in all 20 yes I was there, in s Wales in the UK.

Good example of good design. If they remained powerful enough for today's weights and didn't have any critical failures, why change anything. These days it feels like some engineers just have to change something to stay in their payroll. So many totally meaningless changes on today's vehicles. Not to mention that many times they don't appear to be improvements at all. Like mk4 Diesel mondeo high pressure pumps. They didn't have known problems by any source. It was changed in mk5 model and surprise, surprise now they're prone to leak

Forgot to mention that besides Germany, the Unimog was also made in Argentina by Mercedes Benz plant in ARG.
