I chose UC simply because they have better weapons, armor, and ships. I honestly have no idea how freestar managed to survive a 15 year war let alone get the UC to surrender. Freestar is like space al qaeda...all of their equipment is old, run down, and trashy looking.

These two factions are an obvious copy of the show firefly. The browncoats were the rebels and dressed exactly as the freestar folks. Malcom reynolds (main character of show) was a browncoat. That show created the whole space cowboy genre. I can't imagine playing as anyone but the browncoats.

Possible slight spoiler alert: as I'm diving deeper into the story of the united colonies.. I'm becoming more and more uneasy about my choices. I'm trying to remain on the right path to be a good UC citizen and vanguard member.. but I'm starting to think the freestar collective seems more liberal and the UC more conservative. I'm loving the story but I'm beginning to lose trust in the way the UC handles themselves. Thinking about making the subtle switch over time

I think both of them are Conservatif, the UC is look like a very SF controlling US Gov and the FC look more like Texas.

As a firefly fan there is no way I could play as anyone but the Freestar. (Browncoats) as they were called in Firefly.This game is obviously inspired by the show as the factions are dressed almost identical to the show. Love it.
