I am seeing similarities between the Terran Federation from Starship troopers and the United Colonies from Starfield, to put it simply service guarantees citizenship for both sides. In starship troopers anyone who wants to be a citizen of the federation has to serve, and same thing with starfield if someone wants to become a citizen of the United colonies then one must serve the armed forces of the UC for ten years then gets citizenship. So I guess the UC is a militaristic space faring nation? That’s actually cool!

The military just gets citizenship faster if you work for the uc in any way you will eventually get citizenship as an example a scientist can get it in 20 years where a vanguard operative can get it in anywhere from 5-10 years depending on skill and operations completed

My character has the FC Settler perk and I have been heavily focused on the missions that involve my being a FC Ranger. In the timeline, it essentially shows the UC carried out an act of genocide on an entire planet during the Colony War so I sort of see their self described portrayal of order and culture as a façade. That said, I'll probably go the Vanguard route with the character just to keep leveling up and go a completionist route.

Usually, I'm a bit more ... not upset, per se, when a creator I love starts shilling but hesitant to engage with obvious shill content. BUT! I find these kind of near utopic factions that encompasses practically every world to run into the problem of severely lack tension resulting in the elements meant to create that tension (a few independent planets or a cult) to have a sense of fake tension. They can obviously work but their counterparts needs to have a similar "size" to them (like in stark trek) or need internal tension (like The Republic and CIS)

@@ShadowSonic2 No idea what you're talking about. 1: Starfield lacks style and substance. 2: Starfield has substandard graphical fidelity for a decade ago. As is standard for Bethesda. Its lacking in a lot of post FX that were standard in 2014. The Witcher has more mechanical depth in a single NPC than all of New Atlantis does. The NPCs are manically copyspammed, and their pathing is completely random and nonsensical, as opposed to literally any of the previous Bethesda games where they actually have cycles.

It's nice to see a vision of humanity's future that isn't a dystopia and has a strong moral base. Yes it has it's slums and problems with poverty but what real country does not? And that bit about service to get citizenship may worryingly sound a little like Starship Troopers but it also makes sense to me. I've long thought how unfair it is that immigrants need to study America in order to gain citizenship but children of citizens don't have to do a thing. As they pointed out in 3rd Rock from the Sun, it means the people who are told to "get out" by the born-citizens actually know more about the country then the so-called true Americans.

The reasons why are big main story spoilers, but the result is that Earth, without a magnetic field is left unprotected from the solar wind, stripping away the atmosphere, and leaving the planet a barren, radioactive, airless desert.

So they never had to waste more manpower fighting Earths population, as it ends up dying off itself. I’m not kidding about the Enclave Moon Base btw, Fallout 4 has a historical American military history mural with spacesuit soldiers and power armor troopers on the Moon. This was probably Enclave High Command, and after Terrestrial Enclave failed to secure Earth, they cut their losses and colonized space.

The UC Army having its own branch and general but no actual infantry soldiers in-game is really strange. The marines are part of the navy. The Army may have some armor in-game (shock trooper or star trooper) but no NPCs other than the general (Xiao) in the MAST building. I wonder if the bulk of the Army was cut for time or DLC.
