We reflect on the long history and fight for rights in the United Kingdom, by touching on the legal and social struggles faced by gay people. The criminalisation of homosexual acts and societal prejudice illustrated how challenging it was for gay individuals to live openly. Over the past few decades, however, things have been slowly evolving. This involves the inclusion and the acceptance of gay relationships and marriages, the diminishing stigma, and the impact of positive representations in mainstream media like television. Still, it is important to point out that the fight is far from over, and only by looking at the mistakes of the past can we move forward and build a better society that is acceptive and supportive of everyone, equally.
