Thanks for putting this on here. I'm going to be sending this link to my family and friends. Your video gives an awesome explanation of the CSO career field.

This is my 14yr old son's dream. He will be 15 on August 3rd & going into 10th grade this coming 2020 - 2021 school year. We moved from our home state, PA, to the south and there is no JROTC program at his high school. Congratulations to all those who graduated and will be soon. Thank you to ALL members of the military for your service and continuation of your services. #AimHigh #FlyFightWin #USAF

This was a good transition as day and night cell training went away. This was me 35 years ago as I started Nav training at Mather AFB, CA and became a NAV/EWO. Best secret...RC-135!

Are the CSO graduates actually rated pilots? Sure seems like lots of sim and actual stick time. Sounds good. Oh, does the USAF still have traditional Nav. training?
@foxtrot7899 жыл бұрын
Bbendfender Did you watch the video? Cause it's in there...
@Unmedicated_Moments9 жыл бұрын
Nav is a CSO and yes, they are rated
@calebdemarco9 жыл бұрын
+Old glory CSOs are not rated pilots. They do not manipulate the controls and their experience does not translate over to to the civilian world as far as getting a pilot certificate. With a couple rare exceptions of CSO, WSO and NFO's actually having a civilian rating that they obtained outside of the military and having access to the flight controls inside the aircraft, they cannot log flight time which counts towards any FAA requirements.
@Unmedicated_Moments9 жыл бұрын
Caleb DeMarco WSOs are CSOs. They are rated and get flight pay. Also, the F-15E has controls in the back
@calebdemarco9 жыл бұрын
Being rated as a WSO doesn't mean you're a pilot. Getting flight pay doesn't either. Lol

As a CSO can you choose what aircraft you get assigned to? Or is there a ranking process in school? I can't find much on this topic lol I'd love to be a bomber CSO
@Natehanibal7 жыл бұрын
As a CSO in training, you put in a dream sheet for the airframes you want. They (The Air Force) choose you an airframe based on your class ranking and the needs of the Air Force. B-52's drop regularly and B-1s are very competitive. If you eventually go through CSO training, be the best you can be to increase your chances of getting the airframe you want. I am currently here in Pcola in training.
@jmetz2077 жыл бұрын
Natehanibal Thank you for the information! So are all the fighter frames pretty competitive too? I'm just hoping if I go for CSO to get one of the two frames haha but like you said it's all about performance! Good luck in your training man!

Clarification please. At 11:42, Capt Jen Cook flies with a pilot or does she pilot the the aircraft as well?
@alanhirayama45927 жыл бұрын
In the F-15E, the CSO's cockpit does have basic flight controls such as the stick and throttles, so Capt Cook can theoretically fly the jet. However, her role as a CSO is to operate the weapon systems. aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/23628/f15-e-pilot-incapacitated-can-the-wso-take-over
@AdventInnovative7 жыл бұрын
Is this common? because AF pilots never ask for CSO's

Any idea how this career field can translate into the civilian world after your service?

Mainly through your leadership skills you acquire as an officer and an aircraft commander

Question for any CSO out on KZbin: What motivates someone to be CSO over being a pilot? It seems like you'd have to have a passion for aviation and probably thought of being a pilot growing up. But it seems like this path really limits your civilian options when you get out. Why be a CSO over pilot? Is CSO is an easier slot to get? I'm an Army Guard MP officer so I have no dog in this fight, but I just want to understand why someone would get in this career field but not be a pilot.
@burmavalley78605 жыл бұрын
Pilot is "only" doing the piloting job. CSOs are mission commanders. It is a more strategic job vs. a pilot job, which focus on short-term maneuvers. A CSO can develop impressive organizational and management skills that can be useful in a civilian job.
@SuperSetright2 жыл бұрын
CSO's tend to be pilot recruits who didn't complete pilot training or people who want to fly but don't have the aptitude to be pilots.

What this all boils down to is people that couldn't make it through pilot school, flunked out of pilot training, or don't qualify for other reasons.
