Just graduated from OTS as of October 16, 2020. Read the OTSMAN, know how to march, know how to call cadence with confidence, know how to report, know dining facility procedures, be able to pass PT test with 85 or above, and focus on SOBs when it comes to studying academic materials, and try to sleep no later than 9:30 pm each night.

Is there an age limit? I enlisted at the age of 32, and won't be eligible until I'm 38. What age is the cutoff for OTS if I'm Enlisted going to Officer?
@Tasadaru
@Tasadaru Жыл бұрын
@@CoreyWhiteCollar I believe it is 39. You can apply for OTS while enlisted. I suggest making it to E4 or E5 before then. You need to show leadership potential. Also, choose careers that are low in supply. Contracting, finance, and acquisition are good ones.

I'm so glad I found your channel, not many people talk about ots it's mainly enlisted people who make videos. But I was wondering about buying abus how many I should buy because my recruiter said that they get ruined while at ots and that I should try and get most of them from the airmans attic. Also what's the pt like while you're there? Like what type of exercises you do and how often and such. Thanks again for the info!
@TheLieutenant
@TheLieutenant 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, thank you for subscribing! Glad to help! As far as ABU's I don't think they will get ruined. You could probably get them from Airman's attic (I assume you are enlisted?), but you'll need to have the nametapes on and no rank as you will be a cadet. PT is more of a crossfit style and usually every other day if I remember correctly.

Couple questions: 1. How hard would you say the curriculum is compared to the engineering courses you took? I'm studying engineering myself so it'd be nice to get an idea of how tough it's gonna be. 2. Did you or anyone you know at OTS have a wife or long term gf? If so how does that work while you're there? Do you get to communicate with them at all? 3. How likely is it to get a job in engineering? I don't want my degree to just sit there while I do something completely different for four years. Thanks in advance.

Hey Tank, 1.) It's difficult, but in a different way. Not in a technical way, but in an overloaded stressed way. Their job is to put you in overwhelming and stressful situations to grow you as a LEADER and as a decision maker. Individual growth as a leader and team player is the goal here. 2.) Yes. Email is the only method of communication until you get phased up and then you can have your phones. 3.) Pretty likely if you meet requirements and the AF has a need. Best wishes!
@GunnarDH
@GunnarDH 7 жыл бұрын
The Lieutenant thanks for the reply. So how likely do you think it would be to get a job in engineering out of the air force? Do employers like to hire engineers out of the air force? Also, how much say do you get in where you are stationed? For instance, if I really did not want to be stationed of the country for a long period of time would I have to be?

Tank Pretty good chance of getting hired with the experience that you'll have when you get out of the AF but that depends on you. As far as having a say where you are stationed, you can put 5 preferences of where you'd like to go, but if there's a need, you may not get any of your preferences.

Its not for the most part. Also just as a note. Simple rule for a Intelligence officer. If your out in non-intelligence units you are the smartest person in the room. If your in a Intelligence unite, your the dumbest person in the room. Your job as a Intelligence officer is to take all the information that enlisted give you and make a "Intel Cake" To feed to people who basically have no idea what any of this shit means. Get good at public speaking and power point.

I'm taking the CC then transfer route but was considering joining the AF enlisted route to finish my BA sooner but I'm unsure how long it will take to obtain that degree if I join as enlisted with some community college credits. Also after the BA I was considering OTS, like you, which is why I watched this video. And after OTS I was going to try for pilots, as you did. How easy is it to get medical waivers? I have a few scars from stab wounds from my mother who has a mental disorder. Would it be easy to get a waiver for this? I plan on either going to the US military medical school or go on the "reserves" route while in medical school.

You whippersnappers only do 9.5 weeks now and get a damn camel pack!!! :) We did 12 weeks with little canteens and had to tie a knot in our shoelaces every time we finished a canteen so instructors would know we were hydrated - i.e. we pissed a lot. :) Go Tigers! 04-06, flight 3-13, Capt. Love your channel and this vid. Very informative! Thanks for taking the time to make it. I was hoping you would take some time in a subsequent video to talk about the ropes course at OTS. I have a crippling fear of heights but I don't want that to be the thing that stops me. That would be weak, huh?

I would just shave your head so you don't have to worry about doing your hair everyday. Saves time and less thing to worry about messing with over there.

Commissioned 9/9/1986, lived on and studied at Medina Annex of Lackland AFB. (RIFfed 12/31/1992 while attending SOS in residence. Unpleasant.) Conducted an AF band in Ohio and then the Symphony Orchestra in DC. At age 60 I have many memories and OTS was one of the highlights of a modestly lived life. First three days at OTS I didn’t shit. Memorable. Good luck to you.

Why not be a military nurse, rather than going to OTS? The military medical field has their own recruiting system for doctors and nurses.

If you're going to college, do ROTC. Much better chances of getting picked up, getting the job you want, and you don't have to go to OTS.
@jimgood1949
@jimgood1949 4 жыл бұрын
Trystan Morales Study whatever field interests you, just get good grades. The military needs people from a variety of academic backgrounds. If your college offers ROTC, that may be easier than OTS or OCS.

I know that this is all meant to be different then Basic but... I'll be honest, this all sounds pretty standard if not a bit relaxed compared to Basic. That however makes sense, I mean your a officer Cadet. But just as a note, So coming in as prior service / Enlisted should make a lot of the first few weeks easy right.

@@boldishalpha I don't recall a writing component in the interview, however I believe there was a writing section in the afoqt. Best advice for the interview I can give is be genuine and remember that joining the airforce is becoming a servant. So many people come in for interviews making everything about themselves and what the Air Force can do for them. In order to be a good leader, you need to be a good follower. Be humble, willing to learn, but also strong in confidence of who You are.
