You mean HMS Guerriere. It did. Not USS Constitution and HMS Java and HMS Cyane and HMS Levant. It also doesn't mention the USS Kearsage and the CSS Alabama.

I find the philosophy of Admiral Perry to be very forward thinking: If you want short term results, punishment can suffice....But for long term success, the men must want to be there....they must take pride in the ship and the work...they must desire to defend her with their lives...and see each other as brothers.

@@mikethehistorian shoot, they do it in football all the time! but really, the USN is the world's second biggest air force and has capabilities in all domains. if you throw the marines in there and consider things like DDGs and all, i think they'd have a chance. they could get a foothold in the west indies and harrass the army from there.

I'm old and I don't know if I have time but I'm working on being a military historian thank you and I'm going to have to vet all of this information of course. Vette that is. And the way I got it figured. If I can see the patch on the arm of a friend that needs to be there. That's really neat. But if my witness to that patch on that arm. Gets mad turns around and runs away to come inside another day. It's okay. The only thing about I have to say is thank you for your service to your community and your ship Sir 🇺🇲. How do you know how these guys communicated without cell phones. Don't be sore. That's why you have insurance. Sleeping in under the cover of night

From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli! A word to the wise, don't cause stress for the USA, you won't like it when it's angry 😡. Saddam thought he could get away, so did Bin Laden. Make a target for the USA if you want to, but from then on your days are numbered.

Lol, though I respect my fellow veterans, I served in the US Army, GO ARMY BEAT NAVY. (To me though, I love this game for different reasons. They still play Option Football, which today's game has no idea of how to play it. Because it takes a rare type of person to play Option Football. And it requires every player to run it correctly)

Chesapeake v Shannon? Lawrence was 'encouraged' out of port by a combination of local opinion and the willy Captain Phillips. Unknown to Lawrence the Shannon was not a weak old ship like the previously defeated British frigates. Shannons crew were well trained over the previous 3 years and the captain a gunnery specialist with new ideas to try out. Chesapeake fought bravely but stood no more chance of of winning the the old, tired HMS Guerriere ... The engagement is well described by the book 'Guns off Cape Ann'. Many lessons hard learned, today the USN is more than a match for any navy in the world.

The Royal Navy won the War of 1812 for the British. While American frigates scored some initial successes against weaker British opponents, the Royal Navy nullified this advantage by adopting convoys with multiple escorts. As the war progressed, what American warships that hadn't been sunk or captured were blockaded in American ports, afraid to come out and face the British. By gaining control of the seas, the Royal Navy was free to raid at will all along the eastern seaboard. American trade with Europe was being strangled as was the American government's main source of income, duties on imported goods. Eventually the government was so strapped for cash that it couldn't pay it's soldiers and sailors.

One could add to that, the British did not want the war of 1812, would have settled by diplomacy but. The USA land hungry, greedy USA wanted Canada and that was what the war was really about. The USA lost.
@joshferrera

@@gordonfrickers5592 lost? it's been declared a military draw. The US was the only party to increase territory. Gained Florida and sent the Brits home from new Orleans. Ended up being a pointless war.
