The crystal converger's batteries died at the beginning of the third part (The Mean Machines), so Donatello whipped up what he dubbed the Sarnathometer using spare bits from the converger to continue their search for the last two fragments. When Donatello made the Sarnathometer, it was rigged so it would cause an explosion when the Sarnathometer came in contact with the full eye. The original converger alone didn't have that ability.

I loved the Eye of Sarnath storyline on the cartoon, didn't know there was a comic book adaptation.

Great video! I grew up with Archie and loved seasons 1-2 of Fred Wolfe but only recently learned about the comic Sarnath, super interesting character I had the character Encyclopedia books so I remember "Seeing" Sarnath but now I do want to track these issues down for my collection. One thing to note (that could have been cool to mention tho its not truly narratively related) is while the Eye of Sarnath was rarely adapted outside the archie comics the Sega Megadrive/Genesis game Hyperstone Heist feels very similar to the FredWofle episodes. You got Shredder with the "Hyperstone" a powerful crystal fragment glued to his helmet like Sarnath, shrinking buildings to sell New York for ransom money. I've always felt that Namco was inspired by the Sarnath episodes with that. Turtles in Time and hyperstone heist both drew inspiration from the Sarnath episodes Baxter's boss fight incorprating the stretchy limbs gun he used to steal the stone from Blodget as well as Cement Man the monster Baxter made is a boss in the Arcade Turtles in Time.

It's true, but also speculation. I ran into that while I was doing the video, and because they never properly mentioned the eye of Sarnath, I had to assume they were just copying their homework :p

I still vaguely remember the first time I ever seen the Turtles. One Saturday morning I happened to get up usually early & turned on the TV. This guy with a metal mask called Shredder was shrinking 4 turtles (I now know this was the episode Incredible Shrinking Turtles). I was curious about the characters & where the story was going. I kept getting up early each Saturday morning as I wanted to see the end of this arc. Over time, the show grew popular. Eventually getting a better time slot, VHS promotional tapes at Burger King (Anyone remember Kid Vid?) & a movie. It was my favorite TV show. Actually, the reason I had to get the future shark trilogy comics is mainly because when I flipped through the comic in the grocery store, I quickly noticed mention on the eye of sarnath in it. Remembering that this artifact was part of what made me a fan of the turtles in the first place, I had to get it & saved up $ each month so I could get the other two parts.The future shark trilogy eventually became a fan favorite of mine as well outside the cartoon. It's also why I wanted Tournament Fighters on the SNES so bad as a kid because Armagon from the future shark trilogy was on the cover of the game. I actually very much enjoyed this as it was not only a walk down memory lane for me but also explained context I missed in the comics leading up to the future shark trilogy. I may be in my 40's now but the eye of sarnath arc will always be a special arc to me.

I contacted Arseniy again, and it seems like the last issue will come out in September. I may end up buying the collected edition. He said that things could take a couple of months to arrive, so maybe next year I will cover the Forever War (if there are no more delays). Did you pre-order a copy?

I can definitely do something better than the average marvelous video (they tend to prioritize the most popular versions). Punk Frogs is on my list... but I have been postponing them twice. Once, when it wasn't really clear where IDW was going with them, and twice, when I saw the Mutant Mayhem trailer. I am still deciding if maybe I will just create separate videos for each version.
