So if I had to guess, I’d imagine these voice lines are ones he’s copied from last victims or people who he has came in contact with before. He then uses (or tries) these lines of dialogue to try to lure others in. Also there is no proof that this is a cannon connection BUT one of his many voice lines is “can you help me find my dog?” In one of the teaser pictures for this chapter there is a text message between a mom and daughter. In said text message the daughter states that she’s worried something might be outside the house, and that she thinks the neighbors dog may have been killed by said “animal” soooo it sounds to me that the voice line “can you help me find my dog” may have been a line the daughter and mother’s neighbor said to or around the unknown EDIT: it may have been a text between a couple, not a mother and daughter. Whoops

Judging by whats being said...this thing lures its victims which is even more horrifying "Have you seen my dog?" A woman who lost her dog most likely passed by Unknown looking for it thinking she'd ask for help. The unknown ate her "Hey you this yours?" Unknown dropped something intentionally and a nice person tried to return it, not knowing what would come next "Psst over here" the unknown's real voice. Most likely lured a child with something (candy or toys) and ate them "Sorry sorry" a passerby bumped into unknown by accident and apologized, only to get eaten "Can you help lift this?" Unknown staged a scenario where it needed help lifting something. A kind passerby tried to do a good deed. The unknown did its thing "Sorry, is this yours?" Again it dropped an item hoping someone would see and return it. You know what came next "Excuse me i need help" a passerby was probably lost and asked for directions. Unknown was unfortunately who they asked

I think The Unknown is mimicking sentences that it heard it's victims say before they killed them, and is now also trying to mimic their appearance too. I.E. smiling to try and appear as being friendly to other people (and failing). It would also explain why it sounds like several people at time. "Have you seen my dog?" The Unknown most likely killed the victims dog. "I need some help." Most likely things the victim said repeatedly before dying. Also explains why there's so many variations of it, and is usually the most clear sentence. "You're gonna wanna see this." A usual remark made to try and get someone to come over.

So, not only does it lure its victims in with that, I think that the way it gets those lines and understands them is from the movies, where it can see what happens after somebody asks for helps, it lures the person in. Also, maybe it got those lines off of the victims he’s killed, including (what I presume is Dwight) yelling for help before killing him and wearing his skin, it may even of stalked Dwight and saw him ask for help and speak politely, which helped it mimic.

I think what’s so unnerving about the voice lines is they’re not recited intelligently. Like he’s saying “please, help me” when he’s in the middle of a chase and the survivor undoubtedly knows the voice isn’t coming from someone who needs help. It’s sort of like he’s just repeating what others have said around him/what he’s heard while stalking someone without any idea of what any of it actually means, just stating lines in the vain hope that something he’s heard will lure someone closer. Doesn’t work in the context of dbd obviously but as an aesthetic thing it is really cool.

Someone already said this, but I feel like I need to add onto the horror of how this killer most likely used these voice lines to lure in its victims. Imagine, if you would, you hear someone calling for help, so you go looking to help them, and what you’re met with is a twisted and mangled body of a human, towering over your, blood dripping from its grinning mouth and its empty, dark eye sockets staring at you, and that’s the last thing you see in the living world.

i think it would be creppier if it was said in a more human voice,showing how he lured his victims (if i heard someone say "help" with that voice i would not want to be near that place ever)
