Interestingly enough the luck effect DOES actually work on dungeon chests, it's just it's effects are unseen because Mojang never bothered adding a "quality" to the items in their loot tables for dungeon chests. Luck isn't supposed to give you more loot or anything, it's supposed to give you better quality loot. Mojang would need to specify the quality of an item for each item in each dungeon chest loot table for luck to work properly, therefore giving those items a higher chance to be chosen. This actually works perfectly with mods that inject their own loot tables into dungeon chests and properly assign them different qualities. Give yourself luck and bam, it's all working.

It is 2022 and after quite a long time I still have no clue on how to brew potions, the only potions I ever used were the ones found in the world, I'm a Boomer and I find the current brewing system needlessly complex, it pretty much forces you to use the wiki.
@thepikminbrawler17462 жыл бұрын
Just put some blaze power in a brewing stand, get some water bottle and use nether wart in the top slot to make awkward potions. From there choose the type of potion you want. Glistening melon for healing, blaze powder for strength, ghast tear for regeneration. From there red stone makes the potion last longer, gunpowder makes it throwable, dragon’s breath make it stick on the ground and glowstone makes it more powerful. There are other recipes for different effects put that’s the gist of it
@plushiepenguin2 жыл бұрын
It really isn't that complicated. You make a base (Awkward potion) then brew ingredients into give an effect (golden carrot, ghast tear, rabbits foot, and blah etc) then brew in modifiers (fermented spider eye to reverse effect, gunpowder for splash, redstone adds time, glowstone for power). It's all just adding.

I love the idea of randomly generated potions or just something like that. It would make it so much fun to still have something to learn and explore every single time you make a new world. being able to have more than one effect or a longer singular effect would solve a lot of the problems potions have in my eyes. but you would probably have to figure out some extra cost to brew longer effect or double effect potions because there's not much of a difference between one sugar and five sugar once you build a reed farm.

I would actually prefer them to go back to the idea of randomly generated potion recipes. But it would be better to expand the potion ingredients to include gems, flowers, leaves, etc. But, seeing as trial and error is no fun, having a craftable book or something that allows you to document and explore potion brewing, as well as give you hints at ingredients, would be really fun imo. Also cauldrons are useless, it should take slightly more time to brew in them, but yield 5-6 potions per.
@bjorn60842 жыл бұрын
I like your idea. Maybe being able to brew with lava and honey would be cool too. And if brewable with a brewing stand, the potion is retrievable via bottle, but maybe if in cauldron, it can be retrievable via bucket, which means you could place the liquid potion on the ground for it to flow as a liquid. Like imagine a form of liquid speed potion, where when placed in a straight path, allows you to move very fast.
@flirora2 жыл бұрын
> I would actually prefer them to go back to the idea of randomly generated potion recipes. I agree; in fact, I’d like to see more randomly generated recipes in the game. Still, I find it unlikely to occur since many players might feel annoyed and such a system might not play well with data packs. > having a craftable book or something that allows you to document and explore potion brewing We already have written books for that, though they don’t have the ingredient hint parts. Flowers as ingredients would also be interesting, since they’d get more uses beyond decoration. I think suspicious stew kind of implemented that idea, though.

The cauldron system would be SO MUCH BETTER! Keep brewing stands for splash and lingering potions, but have the cauldrons make the potions. Same effects as the brewing stands, maybe you can combine 2 or 3 potion effects, and it would've been perfect. It's not that user friendly and requires a lot of memorization but so does brewing stands, and I'd argue that less gui is actually better. I genuinely hope that they update potion making soon to use the cauldron, because rn outside of Redstone, they're basically useless

For some information on luck, it's actually easy to prove that it only applies to fishing. Within the loot table files, there are two values, "quality" and "bonus rolls". Quality affects the chance an item spawns, and bonus rolls increases the number of times a loot table rolls a specific pool of items. When generating the loot, all quality and bonus roll values are multiplied by your current luck value, which by default is 0. Both of these values are the only ways luck can actually affect loot. However, all loot tables except for fishing have all quality values and bonus rolls set to 0, leading to no effect. (And, fishing only uses the quality value, it doesn't use bonus rolls). The reason only fishing uses luck is because of the Luck of the Sea enchantment on fishing rods, which increases your luck value specifically for fishing. Each level of the enchantment increases your luck value by 1, up to a total of 3. While it seems like Mojang has largely scrapped their plans regarding luck, it is still rather useful for map and datapack makers as they can utilize the effect with their own custom loot tables (or even modifying vanilla loot tables to also be affected by luck).

well, the "no effect" potions could well be rather useful with command creations! I'm no commandeer, but I know that you can check for "on use" for items, with those potions, you could basically give custom effects to players, such as "potion of detection" that makes every entity within a range glow (and thus be seeable through walls), or even stuff like "potion of spectating" that temporarily puts you into spectator mode, for like, a few seconds, with optifine for example, you can also change textures based on item name (there's texture packs using this that add MASSIVE amounts of cosmetic items), which would allow effectively infinite custom potions, and you could use the two different types to distinguish between the "tiers", or "types", like maybe one that has a custom crafting recepie, but can only be used to create arrows, and another that's normal effect, or something, idk

In 1.17 we could refill the potion filled cauldron by using Dripstone but this feature was soon removed (cause the devs said it was too overpowered) luckily we can still manually fill the cauldrons with potions and get our tipped arrows early. It's much easier and quicker than having to get dragon's breath to make lingering potions that each one can only make 8 tipped arrows. I'm actually surprised it isn't a feature in Java.

Imo Brewing system should get a rework. -all effects should be brewable (aside from things like dolphin's grace and conduit power) -more potions like Turtle Master Potion (2 effects, one very strong positive, one negative) -more alternative uses for potions like curing zombie villagers -less resource efficient way to get tipped arrows in the early game. -different potions available to create depending on the stage of the game (before nether, after nether, after end). For example, weak and "natural" effects like Poison, Hunger, Nausea, should be avalible from the start, stronger effects like regeneration, fire resistance, water breathing, Wither effect, should be available after entering Nether, and completely magical effects like Slow falling and Levitation only after entering the End

It’s been there since 1.4.5(?).

@@flirora sure, nice to know, I was just mentioning that I wasn't certain you could in the latest versions (don't see why not, but you never know when stuff gets changed)

If anyone else remembers the 1.7 mod, Witchery, the cauldron brewing system in there was extremely well balanced and interesting.

i actually really like the cauldron idea, that would be good for building and would be really fun. i think they should add a "potion sash" or something, that would be a good way to encourage the use of potions in the late game
@StootWorts2 жыл бұрын
I honestly think the cauldron brewing method should be added alongside the current brewing stand system. The brewing stand could be the entry level potion making system for new players and for people who just want to pump out quick and specific effects. Cauldron brewing could then be a more advanced brewery method with less predictability and more experimentation and time required, but allowing for the creation of more complicated potions with multiple effects. Maybe this is me just wishing that cauldrons had a use outside of decoration and very rare redstone circumstances, but I do think it would add a really fun and interesting layer of complexity and mystery to a system that is frankly a bit boring and tedious once you know how it works.

I like how names of unused potions included "Harsh, Gross, Charming, Rank, and Fancy". I imagine the harsh one would tell you you're a failure whenever you build something.

So basically the old brewing system is what Witchery/Bewitchment mod's brewing system is. Nice.

I sort of like the intial potion concept recipes could be tracked by the player pretty easily and maybe I'm a Minecraft boomer but the versions I played as a kid were not player friendly the wiki was and is still necessary doing alchemy with a written book of your notes sounds pretty cool

I think the luck system as it is now makes sense to be unused because it's clearly not in a finished state. If we had access to luck potions and they made a difference on chest loot, then all that would happen is you would never want to touch a chest without one of your luck potions, and you would argue with your friends about making sure you open every chest with max luck. Looting and Fortune already kind of have this effect, but it's not such a big deal because they ultimately just generate more of a thing you can already get, rather than increase the likelihood of getting something you might just miss entirely, like well-enchanted gear from chests or mending books.

i actually think the cauldrons system would've been so cool. also the stackable potion effects, we need those in the game!

I hope they revamp the brewing system at some point, maybe like the crafting book there could be a brewing book since brewing is a bit less intuitive. I also think potions should be able to stack, perhaps up to 4 per stack? Yes I know about the combat snapshots where they stack up to 16, but in my opinion I think 16 is way to high, it makes them extremely powerful and unbalanced. I think even 8 is to many, but 1 is to little and results in people not using potions all to often because of how much inventory space they take up.
@FriskyD.2 жыл бұрын
I still want them to be stackable, but just to three I also think the original system could be tweaked to work nowadays, maybe it's how you stack effects? By just putting different potions in the same cauldron?

potions deffo should be in cauldrons...not the least because otherwise cauldrons are basically useless, other than for some redstone trickery, or such
