I worked for 21 years for the Walt Disney Company in theme parks and I worked on lots of projects (Walt Disney Studios park, ratatouille... twice..., Marvel show in Paris..) But I have to admit that my 8 months at Shanghai Disney Resort were the highlight of my career! Such an amazing design, concept and theme park! I even met my now wife there! I miss that park everyday!!!

Living in Singapore, frequently working in HK and Shanghai, I was blessed to have the opportunity to visit both Resorts during trial ops and many times after… I even walked the Shanghai site, before it was demolished. The transformation from sleepy village to Magic Kingdom is unbelievable. The Disney team and individuals who built, work and run both Resorts are amazing people, several have become friends as well. Great overview. Kudos!

Disney Shanghai is such a unique and wonderful place that I got to visit multiple times. It doesn’t feel anything like the classic Disneyland but at the same time it does. You get to experience how the Chinese have a different view on the characters we all grew up with in Europe and North America. Either way its definitely a must visit especially for the food, shows and the pirates/tron ride, those are next level.

I hope this is the start of some really big things to come. Another brilliant video was done by an amazing Aussie group. I visited Shanghai Disneyland in 2019 and had a great time! The attractions were amazing, especially pirates and tron. Tron really was great at night. However some areas of the park felt…empty. It is still a new park so I am sure it will get filled up soon but it was very noticeable in some areas. Also the food could be improved a bit but maybe because I am comparing it to my local Tokyo Disney that has great food! I would like to get back to Shanghai in a few years after they have updated it more. Hong kong is next on my list!

@@yunleung2631 ok comrade. Whatever you say. (🧏‍♂️Psst: the fact a fictional character’s depiction can be banned by the government *at all*, under any circumstances, is kinda a bad thing. And we’re not talking about the actual genocide the government is perpetrating, the oppression of Hong Kong, or any of the other reprehensible actions the CCP is doing). So yeah, not fake news. China’s government cracks down on their citizens for comparing the despot at the top to Winnie the Pooh. They scrub images from social media. They refused to allow Disney to release the Christopher Robin movie in China. The fact they allowed Disney to make a Pooh bear ride is kinda funny, given that context. You wanna deny facts by calling it “fake news”, you go right ahead, princess.

I went every year until covid-19, only because as an American I'm not allowed in because the infection rate of the US is ridiculous. No one in Asia except Korea, wants Americans in. Shanghai Disneyland is a total success because it payed off the cost, with a profit margin too, in the first year. No other Disney park has ever done that, even Paris Disneyland still has profited yet.

A whole area occupied by thousands of people to be moved due to construction of the a commercial building or government project is quite normal. If you’ve ever been to Pudong you would know there is very little development in that district and you would also know it’s the largest district in Shanghai. It takes more than 2 hours to get to the south of Pudong starting from the north. So there was plenty of space for Disneyland to be located there and ample room for expansion in the future. Just remember China is communist so people didn’t lose much, they were relocated to newer homes with compensation. Additionally, they didn’t lose any property because you can only own land in China for a maximum of 75 years and most people in that location weren’t from Shanghai and therefore are not allowed to own land in Shanghai.

Shanghai isn’t the most populated Chinese city. That accolade goes to Chongqing with about 35 million people vs 25 million in Shanghai. Why China? Is a question with pretty obvious answers. Huge and rather young population, massively increased average disposable income, plenty of space, increasing popularity of Disney’s intellectual properties with Chinese citizens (China has become the number one movie market globally) to only name the really obvious ones.

They gotta bring the Pirates Ride to Disney world. Its version is already inferior to Disneyland so there's no reason not to.

It's pretty wild to think that Shanghai Disneyland was closed for only a few months whilst Disneyland in California has been closed for over a year. - Dom.

@@ReviewTyme Well Disney has no choice in the matter, government says it needs to be closed so it is.

Am I the only one who finds it funny/ironic that the sponsor of this video is a VPN, the only way you would be able to actually watch this video in the country of this park?

2:35, this is Katakana. That’s one of the Japanese alphabets, google usually will say “traditional mandarin” which is false.

Japanese and Chinese share many aspects of their writing. So this is how 1998 is written in Chinese as well. But yeah there's an error as the writing here is for 1998 as a number instead of a year.

Village: So what's gonna happen to the houses we live in now? Disney: *Gone, reduced to atoms* at least they got better housing elsewhere, but I had no idea they had to demolish several houses and relocate people to build the resort. The resort looks like an enlarged outline of Disneyland with a moat surrounding it. But their Tomorrowland is pretty cool, glad WDW will have Tron. Also, it's not a special metro line but rather it was an extension of an already existing metro line. Hong Kong Disneyland remains the only one to get its own dedicated metro line built from scratch.
