Great video. No mention of Kenn Scott who was the martial artist for Raphael. Kenn wrote a great book on the production of TMNT 90 called Teenage Ninja to Mutant Turtle, def worth a read. Also my channel did a great retrospective on the first Turtles movie called " Is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the greatest comic book movie of the 90s, also worth a look. Great video by the way.

I was jumping up and down excited when I saw the first previews for it in the theater. It did the words 1 at a time like quiet black screen then TEENAGE (at which point my eyes and ears started to tingle) black screen then MUTANT (was hyperventilating by now) then NINJA and TURTLES. All of the kids in the theater were going crazy by then, then they end it with the clip of Michelangelo spinning the nunchaku on his finger "Keep practicing..." lol frikin lightning in a bottle

I'm still baffled that none of these deleted scenes have been released publicly, and that the only director's commentary is on a German DVD release.
@eskanda3434Ай бұрын
Releasing Deleted scenes weren’t really a thing until dvds came out in the 2000s so by then a indie movie like this likely lost all the high quality film footage or it too badly taken care of to be resorted I doubt you could ever get them 40 plus years later
@Tatteredghost96Ай бұрын
Theres more deleted scenes than whats.on tht german dvd Check out the screenplay heaps of good shots in their and scenes that wouldve made it even better and longer
@otaking3582Ай бұрын
@@eskanda3434 Evil Dead 2 still has deleted scenes in tact, and that's a few years older and by a much smaller studio. Plus, companies were already releasing deleted scenes on laserdiscs.

As many are saying, this is also my favorite movie. I was a huge turtles fan growing up, and still am. I bought the script for this movie when Kim Dawson was selling them a couple years ago. The script was coincidentally signed and dated exactly on my birthday. It really made my day when I got it. I also just backed the Kickstarter for the 4-hour documentary and was ecstatic to find out that it reached the stretch goal for Steve Barron to do a director's commentary over all of the deleted, extended, and alternate scenes that we never got. I'm so looking forward to seeing that! I had to back the whole package so I could get those figures of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird sculpted by Steve Varner who sculpted the original Playmates Turtles figures. This video was awesome! Chevy Nova!

Chevy Nova! I was 9 years old when this came out. I'm 42, and TMNT is the only 'toy' line I purchase still. As long as disney never buys them, TMNT should continue to be a relevant brand/story. Great video and analysis
@teruienages9622 ай бұрын
What the hell would be wrong with Disney acquiring it? They've singlehandedly kept the MCU going and relevant, they also saved Star Wars from an overrated and incompetent hack creator, and they're one of the most globally recognized brands on the entire face of the earth. It would be nothing but a straight-up positive.
@patrickcrews3977Ай бұрын
@@teruienages962 or, continue on with one of their original creators still guiding it upward, rather than changing it and driving into the ground. I don't recall many times, outside of the way back rumored Bay alien turtle films, of the fans being torn about any turtle story content. Whereas, if you look at any of the recent disney led released Star Wars or Marvel, fans are not completely pleased. And don't bring Lucas into it. He sold while still atop, and disney ran it into the ground. If you have been around the four decades I am speaking to, let us discuss rationally on the point I was making from my initial comment.

My brother and I saw this as kids together in theaters when it came out. When we left we were literally looking down the sewers on a rainy night to maybe see them. Then went together to see it again for the special 30 year anniversary re-release in 2020. It was a nostalgia overdose in the best way...epically. We still do the "pork rind?" joke randomly. Even on job sites. The less sense it makes the better it is 🍕🐢🐢🐢🐢

Few kids at the time were familiar with Howard The Duck and He Man had been unpopular for quite some time before that film was released. Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles was released at a time when the cartoon was a big hit and action figures were flying over the counters. The success of this film is actually not that surprising.

Given the Turtles popularity was from the cartoon and not the original comic it would have been a finincial disaster to have members of the foot clan killed by Shedder and Tatsu. The idea of the Foot being a deadly mafia would not have been seen by children in theaters.

As much as I enjoy this movie, Danny bugs me. He's a plot device they could have done more with. April's apartment, along with her dad's shop, was burnt down and this punk gives her 20 stupid bucks? And he wants to be called 'Dan'? Bull crap! Have Danny confess to the turtles about telling Shredder about them. Leo, understandably pissed, grabs Danny and slams him to the wall, ready to beat the crap out of him for getting April's apartment burnt and almost killing Raph. But Raph, showing character development, begs Leo not to do it. He doesn't hold it against Danny and Splinter would never want them to beat up a kid. Leo relents. During a fight with the Foots, one ninja is ready to attack Leo from behind only to get knocked out by Danny holding a blunt open like a metal bar or something, earning Leo's forgiveness. And later after beating Shredder, Danny talks to his dad, ready to tell him about getting April's apartment burned down, April interrupts, saying Danny stole from her and will forgive him if he does housework for her like helping Casey move new furniture, maybe making it part of Danny's community service. Danny's dad likes the idea and offers to pay for the burn repairs. Maybe they should have had him take part in the second movie as a valuable ally, being taught Ninjitsu by Splinter and keeping an ear open on any signs of the Foot.

They will have their charm. But personally I have never liked the films and the series with the TMNT costumes. Also because I have always found them disturbing. The live actions will have their many flaws. But one of the few merits that we can give is having created some really well-made Turtles in terms of design.
