I think he tried to let her know without actually saying it with his actions and responses. Its how she figured it out. His reaction on their last date made it pretty clear too. It's not about him not being a man. They have contracts they have to legally abide by. The ladies, whether they like it or not, put themselves in this position. Its part of the premise of whole show.. Half the time they are directed what to say, part of it is scripted. I don't think this last part was judging by the fact that Daisy did something unprecedented with the ending...but she had to ask the producers if she could first and they allowed it. I mean it pretty much did make it the most dramatic finale ever..for real.
