Ikr. I was just thinking the same. I think it was an organized criminal ring and they had a person or persons inside to help them kidnapping young girls. I am surprised that FBI never questioned that guy Alistair or whatever his name was. I am sure he was involved ih Amy's disappearance. Such a sad story. On a small side note: the father's boss sounds like a good man. Not only was he willing to help with the money but he put in the effort to make sure that they weren't being taken advantage of. It makes perfect sense that the family wasn't in a state to make that call themselves and anyone who would take advantage of that is a monster.

I’d have to disagree. I can somewhat relate to the stress one must be feeling when a love one has gone missing, but to fork over $200,000.00 to someone who’s only given you sketchy evidence or proof that he’s actually seen them is asinine, and they were ready to give away more.... Eee Gads!!

I think his Boss kind of got that, that throwing money at an issue, especially recklessly is only proof you’re doing it because it tells other people you care. Real concern means you verify what you’re being presented. Ok you know where she is, and you know you can bring her back to us, ok. great can you get me a picture of her?, not some grainy photo of the back some ladies head. That’s giving a damn. In addition, "paying for info" and "skepticism, reason, forethought, awareness, intelligence, caution, and due diligence are not mutually exclusive in my world. The moment that the Blue Orchids bass player knew she was missing before he should’ve, the FBI should’ve placed him under targeted surveillance & trailed his every movement. If they had, it sounds like he would’ve led them right to her. He sounds 100% guilty. Also as other commenters have said, it’s pretty insane to think someone would have a victim of human trafficking grab their arm & beg them for help & then just forget about that... I mean wtf why would you not report it immediately?

He said the brothel was "out of bounds" for the Navy, so he was breaking it by visiting there. Still a lame excuse. He could've done something in some way without exposing himself. And to say he "forgot" about it? How? I couldn't! Yeah & it looks like Alistair handed her over to "them" that morning by waking her up with a call to lure her out of their cabin, drugged her drink enough for her not to pass out, keep her functioning yet disoriented. I'm sure the FBI strongly suspect him too but they got absolute zip to hold him for. She has some very distinctive cheekbones and laugh lines present on both pictures, same hair color aswell obviously. Chin seems same just a bit different angle on the comparison. Distance between eyes is identical. I would say there's a very high chance of that actually being her although that doesn't mean much. Let's all make a pact, guys. Whenever someone comes to you asking for help, let's take it seriously. If they gives you a name or any information and tell you that they have been abducted or seem in distress, report it as soon as possible. But! Don't go out of your way to be a hero and put yourself in harms way. Just... report it, keep tabs, keep notes. Even if it's a prank or a ploy, it's better to be safe than sorry. Because, honesty... I would hate myself if someone came to me for help and I shrugged it off only to find that this person WAS in distress and that I likely sent them to their death. That would haunt me forever. So... let's just report it, yeah?

Here are some cheerful facts: Cruise ships are 100% more concerned about taking your money than guaranteeing your safety. The cameras are there for their liability and protection and not yours. The film is the property of the cruise ship and even governmental agencies won't be able to see it. They do not run background checks on their employees nor do they mitigate the pollution they dump in the world's waterways. The rates of rape, assault and thievery on cruise ships are astounding. Folks, do your homework and you'll see for yourselves. Happy sailing!

Eh, I'm pretty sure the companies do care about security, given the damage to reputation and repeat business which can result from stories like this one. I mean, would you go on a cruise on this particular liner or with this operator? A luxury hotel is not very keen on their guests being robbed either and I suppose it's way cheaper to pay for security than to hush up after an incident.

We've gone on about 20 cruise ships throughout our lives; this is extremely bad but extremely rare. Maybe Amy was not thrilled about going because she had been alerted or warned ahead of time, but just didn't believe it. Yes, I agree, cruise ships "seem" very safe and lull you into probably a false sense of security. As long as you know that...you will be fine. The thing about these ships is you can't be vulnerable and very ALONE (which Amy was at 5:30 am on deck by herself sleeping). I know a woman who has two teen to 20-something girls, and if she found her DD sleeping alone on a secluded deck early in the morning, when no one else was around, she either would have woken the DD up and insisted she finish sleeping in her room; or the mother would have stayed or slept next to her on deck, keeping on eye on her the whole time, if she didn't want to wake her up. As a woman, I have been asked by a crew member to go to a secluded room for him to "show me something" when me and my DH were having marital problems on board, and I refused and stayed only in common areas where there were a lot of people, or in our room. Yes, cruise ships are actually lots of fun and safe, in general...if you stay with the crowd and watch your safety, as you would do anywhere.

Still leaves the same question ... except that it might have been a ham-fisted effort on the line's part to help drop her disappearance down the memory hole (not realizing what the Streisand Effect would do). That much a cruise line might do safely, at the cost of bad optics; mucking about with security camera footage could essily have huge legal and regulatory consequences.

Didn't someone see her leaving with a male early that morning, as soon as the ship docked and let people off??? By the time they found her "missing", she would have left the ship and could have been anywhere on the island. I remember being a 23 yr. old girl and you are extremely naive to the dangers of the world. I'm guessing, after dancing with her and plying her with alcoholic drinks, the male band member suggested that they go on the island to meet his family, or meet some of his friends, and/or show her something on the island that she just has to see. He might have told her she shouldn't tell her parents or brother b/c they will just get mad at her for having fun being up all night with him and they'll only be on the island for an hour or two...they will be back before her parents probably will wake up for breakfast and miss her, he could have reassured her. Yea...and no, she's with "the band" so she doesn't have to show her cruise card (which ALL cruise passengers HAVE to show and have scanned every single time departing or coming back onto the ship)...he probably told her. Poor girl. I think she really was trafficked, sadly.

I grew up with 4 sisters. As we grew older, started dating & moved away we had a innocent sounding code word to use if we were in trouble. My mom or dad would call us at home & before we hung up they'd ask "do you need an umbrella?" (Umbrella was the code word) if I ever replied "yes" they would know I was in deep trouble & not free to discuss it. Also If they forgot to ask the question, all I had to say was "I need my umbrella". 40 years later and states away from each other this code word is still used by us today to check on each other. My point is that if that i was ever missing & had opportunity to ask for help quickly I add the world Umbrella to the quick details & my parents could gage the validity of the info & be less prey to crooks on the take everywhere.

Not only is it insanely destructive for the environment, air and sea they don’t even pay taxes. It’s destructive for the environment they pay their workers bad and don’t pay taxes. Yet people are dying to go on those disgusting ships. Everything about cruise ships are disgusting in every sense. Economically, environmentally, biologically and scientifically.

I worked on fast craft pax ferries for years and one of the very worst members of crew I ever had the misfortune of not only trying to train but I drew the short straw so had them on my ficken crew was someone that was supposed to have over 5yrs experience serving on a cruise ship. It should have been an easy 1 day recertify and 1 day type rating for our ship. This idiot had no clue and had to go through the entire 2 weeks with the rest of the new starts and they barely passed! It got worse when they actually started the job. The most basic of basic mistakes every ficken drill and yet strutting around like they were taking a step down from the QE2 to slum it on Seacat. If that's the caliber of crew that lasts 5yrs on a cruise ship I'd say you're bang on staying well clear! They lasted 4 weeks with us and that was only because it cost so much to train the smeg but when you have to carry an extra member of crew because you can't trust them on muster, that's just dead weight.

@John Jay Say what you want about the usefulness of his comment but he isn't wrong. Sadly it is often the good people who bad people take advantage of because they tend to not perceive the subtle things that point to potential danger. Having grown up in a "bad neighborhood" than moving to a good one I see little things all the time that could get you in a bad spot in the wrong area. Things as big as leaving your doors unlocked to little things like people who pay more attention to their phones than their surroundings while out in public. This is a sad story though and I hope the family gets closure one way or the other because not knowing must make things so much worse.

Actually, cruise ships are very safe I-F you stay with the crowd and keep an eye out, like you would normally. Never, ever go somewhere ALONE if you are a teenage girl up to your late 20's or older...and that's just anywhere's. Amy was kidnapped because she was alone on a deserted and isolated deck, especially in the early morning hours, when no one would be passing by. Not her fault, because they give people a false sense of security...but, on the other hand, you have to use basic caution when you are basically in the equivalent of a small city. So sorry for her...poor girl. Wish this hadn't have happened to her.

This story is one of the cases that make he hesitant to go on any type of cruise. A few things about this case I have always believed: 1. She very could have been sold into sex trafficking. Cruise ships have been commonly exposed as possible hunting grounds for traffickers. Especially targeting foreigners because they will have their travel documents they can use as leverage. 2. The crew was involved either in a cover up to prevent bad press or they were part of a sex trafficking ring. 3. Had they prevented everyone from leaving the boat it very likely she would have been found quickly. I hope the ship’s captain feels very guilty. 4. That private investigator is a horrible person and I hope he burns in hell. 5. She might be found one day, I pray to God she is found alive or at least they are given answers. This case has always stayed with me. I truly feel like she is alive somewhere and I pray she is found one day.

Of course not. And her pictures would have still been in the picture wall until her family decided whether or not they wanted them if it had been an accident or something. They take pictures on cruises constantly and everyone has a little slot in these nooks. A few people have the job of just sorting photos and putting the ones with the same people in them together so you go down, find your slot and look at what pictures are available of you/your family and decide whether or not to buy them. They just keep adding to your slot the whole cruise and at the end they just collect all the ones that didn't get bought and toss them. Someone had to deliberately go and take them from the display.

The cruise's crew was absolutely in on this. The band in particular. Of all the cases in the world, this is one I hope is solved before I die... I think that was her in those pictures. I worry that she was 'taken care of' when the case was getting more widespread, because it's been so long since a sighting--and by now, she may have gotten 'too old' to 'use.' However, there is still some hope for me that she's alive, whether or not that's a good thing. She may have been brainwashed into staying, or shamed into it by being forced to do terrible things. There's still use for older people in human trafficking that don't have to do with sex work, but in my heart, I do worry that something terrible has happened already.

I think that it helps them not feel guilty for not noticing how bad off their loved were. I've had people try to throw a lot of money at me to prove their relatives were murdered on get the coroner's verdict overturned and didn't commit suicide. Never seen it pan out that way, EVER. There's too much of a rush to bend over backwards in deference to the feelings of the families in some of these cases. Of course it's sad - it's sad however she died (almost certainly falling overboard, either accidentally due to alcohol, as happens plenty of times on ships, or suicide as you suggest). But when playing along/not wanting to offend someone's feelings results in years of investigation and enormous expenses on what are plainly wild goose chases....it's a real waste. All because nobody along the way can muster the courage to tell the family what they don't want to hear.
